Back in the day the spoon is the only lure we used to use and we would always tie a little piece of red or pink yarn onto the hook. It definitely made a difference! Thanks for the cool videos!
So hear my out on this... fish a rooster tail like the Yakima ones. Keep the swivel, but put a bobber like you would for freshwater panfish just above the swivel on the braid. That will keep you somewhat over the grass and give you a greater casting distance. I swear it works.
I love that you featured the Silver Minnow, I throw the 1/2oz Gold Spoon. It definitely produces very well in and around the pot holes and over grass. I do love the Aqua Dream Spoons, I highly recommend them, they only have 1/4 & 3/8 though. The 3/8 cast well. One of the cool things about their spoons is that they have colors like cooper, green, gold, and live bait series as well. I hope you check them out.

Nice video buddy. Just another thing to add to the arsenal. I would never had thought that a spoon would work in the flats. Much like a frog. Thanks for making that video.
Have you ever heard of if it ain't broke don't fix it that is the spoon and another the older the better I am a old man now and and that spoon was around when I was a young n keep up the great work Justin and thank you for taking a old man fishing oh how I miss fishing !!!!!
I've noticed the exact same thing but I'm not a fan of spoons so I decided to try the mirodine lure (mr17) that looks like a gold spoon and the reds were crushing it during the sunny day ..
@@theloosemoose8200 I’ve nearly replaced the spoon with a MirrODine MR27 as my subsurface search lure. I’ve swapped out those weed-grabbing trebles for single in-line hooks, and will tie one on before going to a spoon. I also like Krockodile spoons as much as Johnson’s
To help with line twist, cut off the spoon on your way back to the launch, let out 30 or so yard or just line and start peddling. Just like trilling but no lure. The drag pulls the twist out. If you can let more line out, better.
@@cleanfunfishing when I workes commerical and charter boats offshore its what we would do after trolling for kings, AJs, and others all day. Cleans the line up nicely.
This morning was tough. Reds wouldn’t look twice at my lures! You use spoons even when plastic bite doesn’t work? What were you throwing originally before the spoons
Bright light, bright bait (gold)! Dark light, dark bait (overcast, cloudy conditions) try the silver! When your bite turns off bc of cloudy conditions, give the silver one a try and you’ll be surprised by the bait! Just saying

I found a gold spoon in a reds belly when cleaning him .it was a sugar boat if I remember right nice lure I put a new hook on it and caught several good reds with it but eventually lost it in the rocks at the jetties.

That's interesting about the yarn
I always have a Gold Spoon in my tackle box. Good point on the swivel.

I'll check em out Paul. Always looking to try new things man
Yes, it's incredible how simple it is and works!
They work when nothing else will, if it's sunny.

I was having the same problem started using paddle tail. Trout and small reds are like them right now.
Great tips! My go-to spoon is a Nacho Daddy’s Spoon when the bite gets tough..
Those are on my list to try out also
Thanks for the great tips Jason. I need to try out the gold spoon next. Keep them lines tight 🤙
It's Justin. They work man!

Thank you Will. 😁👍
Dude those Reds were like Jaws behind that spoon. So cool
Lol, ya they were finally waking in the direction of the lure instead of away from it like all morning lol
Awesome, great tip on how to keep it from getting in grass too much. Thanks
You're welcome Gerardo! 👍
Good stuff Justin, atleast someone is catching! It’s been hard to make a video 1 maybe 2 reds here and there
Thanks Jason! Man it has been hit or miss for me lately. It's gonna turn around soon though for sure!
@@cleanfunfishing damn right it is
Love your videos! I actually went to Roy’s today to buy the silver minnow (gold) my buddy Eric C told me about you. Keep up the great content! 🎣👍
Thank you I really appreciate that! 😁
Great video man! Very sick to see some action from those reds!
Thanks man! 😁
I like the Bagley spoon with the hammered finish - more reflective!
I'll be trying out different brands soon. Thanks for the recommendation

I'll check the mr17 out. Might be another good one I have not tried.
Lol... I just posted the same thing. Good lure on those tough sunny days. 👍👍
@@cleanfunfishing it's great for your situation because is a SLOW sinker which allows you to fish it right over that grass...

i can attest to that method also, works great.
With sun out a silver spoon has always been my go to.
I have a few on order to try out
In clean -clean water I find the black Johnson spoon is sometimes more productive on slow days.
Really? That's good to know Steve. I ordered a few other spoons to try out too
Me and my buddy will be in Port Aransas on June 17-22. I'd like to meet you if possible. Beers on me!
I appreciate that man! But I don't drink anymore and my business keeps me really busy.
Good video. 🐟 👍🏽

I tried everything. Wakebaits soft plastics, 3 inch, 4 inch paddle tails.
@@cleanfunfishing good to know! Have to grab those spoons from the bottom of my tackle box 😂
My go to equivalent to that lure is the MirrOlure MirrOdine Broken Glass Suspending Twitchbait in gold.
Ok cool. I will check them out
What size barrel swivel do you use?
Size 7 Eagle claw

A tiny split shot makes a big difference
On the lighter spoons?
@@cleanfunfishing yes sir!
@@Pskiff18 good idea! 👍
This conversation is at 3 in the morning. You must be going fishing just like I was. Lol
I think there time frame is off. Maybe 4 am sounds about right 🤣
Man ive probably caught more reds in the flats on weedless spoons than anything. I prefer silver though
I still need to try a silver one
3/8 is $
The best lure is always a live pinfish forget about it

They are a favorite of mine now. Definitely top 3 go to lures.
Love a good spoonin. Hahaha
Lol 😆
