However when I ask ChatGPT if my sentences are natural, and they always say yes even when I know they aren't.

TTMIK was the first to make Korean language learning accessible on the internet and I'm glad they continue to be the at the forefront of the industry as it grows and advances. I'll always remember fondly the early days of learning with the TTMIK podcasts and love that they remain relevant for new generations of language learners to discover and study with. I hope your company and influence continue to grow through 2024 and beyond.
TTMIK embracing the immersion/input/comprehensible input/graded reader ways is both surprising and awesome. That being said, I want to mention that the price of the Stories app is a bit steep. Speaking from their previous graded reader stuff like easy stories etc, the quality is definitely there and that should be rewarded, but ballpark 300 bucks a year (without ttmik subscription taken into account) is rough for most people, especially those who aren't even aware about graded reading etc.
What makes the cost even harder to justify is that there aren't complete English translations of the stories/articles (just a handful of boldface words), making it impossible to confirm whether you truly understand the content or not. Three true/false quiz questions after each story aren't enough to check comprehension, especially when the questions aren't translated either.

When I received the news about the app I was so happy because this was just what I needed. It is very well made! I wanted to subscribe at once but when I finally saw the price I sadly had to admit that it’s way over my budget. In fact it was the most expensive app I’ve ever seen. I really like the TTMIK product as a whole and have purchased many books and also purchased a subscription for the online courses. I additionally really enjoyed the sample of the new graded Korean app and appreciate the work that went into it, however the subscription price seems exceedingly expensive, and there seems to be no discount for those who already subscribe to the online course. It would have been something I would have subscribed to straight away, however at this point the cost is a little prohibitive.
I felt the same way. I'm also subscribed to the website and bought quite a few books from TTMIK, and I was excited about the news of the Stories app, but when I saw the price and absolutely no integration of already existing subscriptions to their site, it immediately lost me.
I agree, there should be atleast a small discount for already subscribed members.
I agree. I really like TTMIK and have been using their books, podcasts, and online courses to study with for years. And I 100% supported their decision to move to a subscription-based model because I can tell how much time, effort, and money they put into their lessons. However, I am currently studying level 7 of their curriculum and supplement the grammar lessons with other courses that they already offer on the online catalogue. I enjoyed trying out the stories app and again I think it was well made and a very useful tool, but I financially cannot make it work to pay more money for another subscription that I would use as an additional supplemental tool. Realistically, I think I would probably use the app once a week at my currently level.
Maybe they could offer different models so more people could access the app. Like maybe 2 free stories a month for subscribers? Or some sort of limited number of stories with a cheaper price tag, like 5 stories a month for $5?

I’ve been following TTMIK since 2012 but due to my poor discipline, I still lack a lot in my Korean skills.. :( but this year 2024 will be different!! I will learn Korean !!! 🙌🙌

I love TTMIK!!! I have been "learning" Korean since 2017 on and off, but with a big break in between. I basically am starting from zero again and have bought your first level books. I am feeling discouraged so far by how slow my progress has been, but this has me more motivated again. 화이팅!

I definitely need a new reason to learn Korean and need to find a time to commit to learning it. When I first heard anything about Korea, it was through dramas and songs and I wanted to understand without google translate/ subtitles. But really deep down my main motivation to learn any language is to be able to talk to people. I think if I break my goal down into smaller more achievable steps, I can keep on track. So I’ll say a goal for 2024 is to get to a conversational level, so I can find a language partner and talk to people in Hmart when I’m struggling to find things!😂

I am so pleased to see TTMIK teachers acknowledging the power of AI and how to work with it. I know some of my other favorite teachers discourage this, so kudos again for taking a stand. If this can help more beginners get past that initial hurdle then I am all for it.
One minor disclaimer, is that 3.5 AI can make mistakes, but still I think with enough other resources like teachers and chat services to real native speakers. This should be able to help mitigate those issues.

The more you listen to the language and watch korean shows you will start to understand the grammar and it's stucture. As well as improve your listening comprehension and pronouciation. The key is to do it everyday consistantly, even if its only 10-15 minutes a day. I have seen great results when I do that along with studying.

Right now I'm at Sogang so I'm mostly using their material to study but I also watch a more simple drama right now first with no subtitles, then with subtitles trying to learn the new vocab, and then a third time I will watch to see how I've improved 🤗 듣기 practice

My goals this year include finishing up to level 10 in the TTMIK core curriculum and trying to make what I learn part of my conversations so the grammar and vocab stick. I also want to do the reading app and perhaps I'll use ChatGPT to read to it. I tend to get nervous reading with my teachers, always worrying that I'm about to make a mistake and that because I don't always know the vocab that my intonation is poor. Perhaps this will help me.

It's weird how often you advertise the reading app without ever mentioning the price. Even on the app page, the price isn't listed. Even in the app when you initially open it.

But so far there are very few resources in learning Korean dialects online. Hope you can have courses for Korean dialects, i love talking to old folks in the rural area! Does the stories app start with preschool level stories? Very simple sentences? I have a couple children’s books and they are still a little too hard

I've actually been keeping an eye on TTMIK Stories and the offers available as it is something that I'm interested in, but unfortunately even with the discounts I think the app is too expensive and I can't really justify spending that much each month/year when there's so much content out there - albeit not divided into graded readers - that I could use as reading practice.
Have been following you for over eight years (recently found a postcard from MyKoreanStore after I purchased a book from you ages ago!) and paying for the membership for a few years now, so I know you produce quality content, but there is a limit to the amount I'll pay and unfortunately TTMIK Stories is way over that limit, especially as I already pay for TTMIK's yearly subscription and that's less expensive than the graded reader app but includes more features. So I'll be sticking with my website subscription for now and supplementing it with reading novels and webtoons in Korean.
The discount for those subscribing to both services also only counts if you purchase a website subscription after the TTMIK Stories app from what I can see? That doesn't help those who already have a website subscription (especially those on the old website pricing).

There’s no lifetime option? I paid a lot of money for an annual subscription to the TTMIK website years ago and got didn’t get a chance to use it much because honestly I couldn’t figure the site out and I just got distracted. If I had bought the textbooks instead like I wish I had it would have been fine - I they would still be waiting for me. I’m not a fan of subscription models at these prices. I can get grades readers from other companies for a fraction of the price. There’s tons of other people on UA-cam pumping out stuff for free. I do expect this to be better and I can pay but you need to make the price reasonable.
