I would say the most unrealistic thing was #9. The disappearance of Ben always confusing to me and also what happened to Emma during when Rachel was leaving for Paris.
what about the idea that getting a high paying job is easy, or any job for that matter? whenever i ask for a job, they'd have one of these three responses: "We can't afford to be hiring new recruits at the moment."; '"We're over-staffed already"; or "you don't seem like the right fit for this job".

Come on. An episode lasts less than 30 minutes and there are 20-24 episodes in a year. It's 10-12 hours of pure time in a year spent with friends. Not much, huh? Aren't we all spend at least 10 hours with friends in a year? My great "a-ha" moment about sitcoms was when I realized that only good or impactful moments are shown. In between their lives are as boring and tyring as everyone else's.
Exactly. It's not like the sitcom was showing every boring aspect of their everyday lives. For example, Ben doesn't need to show up every episode, we already know Ross does spend time with his son every week. He does mention picking Ben up at school and all, they don't have to actually show it.
@@kiminimuchu__ Yep. Also routine is not what we recall later from our lives. We recall silly adventures with friends or dramas or get-togethers. Essentially the whole "Friends" is what the creators remember about their 20's.
I was thinking that. Some people's days off and hours change constantly. And like you said, if we are watching an hours worth of drama, the time matches from what I can tell!
I don't know what's more unrealistic, how clean New York City is, or how affordable the apartments are. And seriously, how do they have so much free time. Only in TV land, people. Do not be fooled.
Divorces can be quick under the right or not so right circumstances. I had a relative who was in an abusive relationship. Her husband went overseas on a business trip. A few months later when he returned. He found out they were divorced and she and the kids moved.
Same here, i will praise Mrs Naomi Wang over and over again because she has great skills, i started with $2000 and after 2week i received a returns of $6,000 then i continue with her ever since she has been delivering.
This is why I watch and love Friends. Because it reminds of a time where every single detail wasn't analyzed to the top! "Monica's weight loss prompted unrealistic expectation for health and fitness" OR...it was just a funny joke that people laughed at. Friends reminds people of that nostalgic feeling where the world wasn't so overly sensitive and could actually laugh at raunchy or slightly inappropriate jokes. Not everything has to be PC.
I definitely got unrealistic expectations on adulthood, no thanks to Friends. They made us believe that a waitress and a chef could afford that apartment, even if Monica was illegally subletting it.
It's a tv show...like why are people using it as a real-life example? Also... Chandler said the apt was rent controlled...so on top of being sublet..the rent never changed from decades beforehand...so it may have been very possible
You do realize this is all fiction right? How dumb are you that you let a tv show influence your life. Smh. I love FRIENDS. But I also knew it was just a show.
my wife and i had a friend group with 3 other married couples. pay discrepancy, children, and time/job all played a factor into us drifting apart. for example, im a local govt employee. my wife is a hospital administrator. we make good money. however, one couple was a doctor and IT tech. they would call us up, "Hey we're going to Cancun on the 30th. want to go?" we would respond, "ITS THE 28TH!!!"
I’ve found that most of these are true, I lived feet away from my friends most my life, my wife was right in front of me for years before anything happened, I’ve been hanging out with my friends from middle school all the way into my 40’s, only one I agree with is divorce isn’t that quick
It has been said that Monica's Grandmother owned the apartment first and the apartment is rent controlled, so rent hasn't changed in god knows how long she was living there first. That however doesn't explain the guys apartment, but that one is also smaller, so maybe it just costs less. Edit: i should have watched a little further.
Almost whole list is constructed as if the series showed all of their lives as they were, which is an absurd way to look at any sitcom. The show is about the times they do manage to meet at Central Perk or hang out at Monica's apartment, those are highlights of their personal lives.

Okay as someone that is trying to get divorced #10 is so true. But also just gotta say Ross and Rachel were toxic together. And Chandler and Monica were a vibe.
I'm still friends with the a lot of people that I was 10 years ago. Sure, there are some new, and some who walked away, but I can count at least 6 of them who I was hanging out in 2013 and I still hang out today. Some of them get married, some of them had child, some are still single. But I think is very healthy to mantain close friends to life. Some of this friends are closers than me than the majority of my relatives. Also, most of them live close enough to my home that I can visit them just walking. Sure, we live in a small city, with no more than 200k population, but still. About life/work balance, here in Brazil we work 8 hours a day (or, most of people do. It's the law here, anything over this time is extra-hour). And, by my experience, I can say that I always want to do something after my job. And that means, meet with friends, just to hang out or go to the gym. But the coffe shop over bar, OMG, that's so true.
To be fair the one about never going to work isn't quite true. We all saw scenes at all of their jobs. Plus more than 1/2 of them could be done freelance.
@@andrewq159 I'm betting a Massage therapist, NYC Chef, Professor/Museum curator, and Actor can get paid more than a typical living wage job. If Phoebe charged 100 dollars per hour per client she could get 2000$ per week by only working 20-30 hours. Same with Monica Where I'm betting there's at least 100 Restaurants that can charge 200$ a plate. Also Joey was working solidly by the end of the show so he could have afforded regular rent while living with Rachel.
As someone who was born and raise AND still live in NYC....you can get a rent controlled apartment for like $30 per month, HOWEVER, it's usually in the projects(low income housing) and you usually have pests(such as rats and water bugs)living with you....BUT, there's usually an annual inspection with the person listed on the lease, which, in Monica's case, would be her grandmother....so no its not realistic
My sister lived in an nice apartment where she was paying about $250 a month in Brooklyn in a nice quiet neighborhood. The apartment was sub sub sub letted to her.
If I recall correctly her Grandmother was alive and living in Europe so it's possible she could have returned for that however the onsite manager was aware of the sub letting and seemed to have gone along with it for whatever reason.
What about Joey eating so much and still being at a heathy weight and good-looking? And frequently running into people you know on the streets of New York? However, times have changed a lot in the last 20 years, so maybe being surrounded with the same people throughout years was more common in the 90s.
Naw, I’ve met plenty and I mean PLENTY of hot guys at random places in NYC. I am 43 so I had the pleasure of dating before people solely relied on apps. And people really did make eye contact and flirt with each other at coffee shops, restaurants, book stores, music stores, etc.
Well, when it came to renting Monica and Joey's places. Monica's grandmother had it before her, so it was rent controlled. And since it was her grandmother's place, she might have been paying rent from decades earlier. So even though it was the 90s, it might have been rent prices from forty to fifty years earlier. Also, Chandler paid for everything over at Joey's place, but Chandler also had an extremely well-paying job in finances I believe. He had an office with a view, a secretary, and is in leadership. He also is shown moving up the office ladder I believe. So Chandler is well off, he comes from money and is probably the best-paid of the six through the show's run.
The thing I found unrealistic is how they rarely locked their door, especially in a building with no doorman. You'd never do that in NYC. If it was real life, there would be at least 3 locks on that door, and they would always be used,
Ms Mojo wasnt even born until the early to mid 90s and trying to act like she knows what was realistic for the lives of 20/30 yr olds during that time. Girl, sit down.
Yeah, friends is a sitcom not a reality tv show that has realistic stuffs. If you all pay close attention on the entire seasons, you notice that a lot of the episodes are set like 1 week or even 4 weeks after the previous episode. I have seen friends like 4 times and i noticed how the episodes are not continuous, it is set in 2 or 4 weeks after. I love friends even though it makes no sense like affording an apartment and have so much free time
Honestly i hope no 3 doesnt come true for me. Ive been hanging out with the same group of friends practically every weekend for the last 6 years (im almost 25) and i really hope that doesnt change. I dont think it really will because of the specific dynamics but i would be devastated if it did. For reference i live with 3 of them (2 of which i went to highschool with) im dating (and plan on marrying) another who is twins with another all of whom have known eachother since they were kids. The last ones are the sister of my roommate and her boyfriend. I really do have the wacky complex friend group from friends

Well I come from a background where family and extended family is around more actually there was a time my aunts and her family lived across the street from my familys house but wont lie I longed for the tight friendship aspect that Friends showed but since I was more stressed and pressured of family first the friendship thing was just never going to fight in
There are plenty of situations throughout the 10 seasons that are relatable. It doesn't have to be relatable on every single aspect for people to mention how some episodes feel relatable to them.
Well, fathers (for the most part) still get to live their lives even after having children so Ross barely being with his kids on screen is not that much unrealistic.
No 1 on the list - "Friends" is not the only show who did this, with antihero lead living in a real loft (old factory) with curb shop mix of furniture.
As a matter of fact this is the part where How I met your mother totally triumphs Friends. In How I met your mother the gang was clearly in their late 20s and moreover Life in NYC was shown as it is in HIMYM.
The title of this video is not too shocking, considering "Friends" originally aired when Generation X was going through the list, and we related to every single one of item at some point in our lives during the run of this show. So, we can relate to this list and the show. #GENERATIONXNOSTALGIA

1. Illegal subletting and rent control 2. Off days exist 3. Enotionally stunted 5. Marriages are worth working through for alot of people 6. Fathers realistically dont get alot of time with their kids in shared custody cases 17. Because some people fear marriage...but eant the wedding..theres a real life case of a womam that married a man an immediately pished him off of a cliff because she only wanted a wedding. 19. Pheobe only said she learned french and she picked it up conversationaly not formally so there can be gaps 20. If I remember correctly she ran off after her mother's suicide..Pheobe always hints to choosing to live on the streets..that happens more than you think.

2024, and one of the most unrealistic things in the show is rachel's career development, I worked 11 years in fashion retail and I tell you there's absolutely NO WAY someone with 0 previous experience, find a job so quick in this area, I know she was helped by Marc, which is a huge thing but millions around doesn't have a "Marc" to help them find a position, but the BIG thing is her fast growth to an executive position, again, NO WAY she could achieve this so easily, would be necessary YEARS, to reach such position, in the best of the best scenarios she could achieve a second managing position. Free time? Weekends? Time to hang out at the coffee shop? Act like is a nice chill job with 0 stress? Hahaha more than unrealistic.
don't agree with some. Money issue was far more better adressed in Friends than in other shows of that time : how to deal with friends dispcrepency, earn its living, bills... etc. And now in 2023, after pandemia, people leave jobs easily. And we can have 10 years long friends living close to us (but probably not in NY) between 20 and 30. They separate when children arrive in a stable couple and that is realistic. The rest seems more a show !!
Monica only pays $200?? Jack, Janet and Chrissy over on THREE'S COMPANY has to scramble $300 a month in the '70'&'80's. Both cities now a days charge more than $3k+ per month.😂
To be fair, yes the love of your life can be right there in your friend group, and yeah plenty of people are tight friends 10+ years. Just saying. And that Ross hardly sees or mentions Ben, that kinda tracks. He has his moms. They likely have custody. And he likely ditched his weekend with him to hang out with Rachel at Central Perk.
MsMoj has issues. I changed my career later in life and it was rough but worked out well in the end. I have no regrets so her issue with quitting a job you hate has no merit. Knowing you have to make a living pushes you that much farther to make your dream job come true. So Chandler and Joey were right.
This "analysis" of Friends is so stupid! Do they understand the idea of a "sitcom"?? Apparently not. I watched Friends for the laughs, not to compare it with my life. Anyway...

@@andrewq159 that's the thing with freelance. You can work only part time and charge whatever you want.
@@madmartagan100 No, you can only charge as much as customers will pay.
"With a group of people with steady jobs and Joey"
@@nikkidarkangelpnope8400 oh ok
HOLY SHIT!!! ROSS' DIVORCE LAWYER IS SHEPHARD BOOK FROM FIREFLY😂😂😂
Apologies for the caps, but God damn that took me by surprise 😂
I think judging this show through 2023 eyes isn’t realistic
What about Joey eating so much and still being at a heathy weight and good-looking? And frequently running into people you know on the streets of New York?
However, times have changed a lot in the last 20 years, so maybe being surrounded with the same people throughout years was more common in the 90s.
Naw, I’ve met plenty and I mean PLENTY of hot guys at random places in NYC. I am 43 so I had the pleasure of dating before people solely relied on apps. And people really did make eye contact and flirt with each other at coffee shops, restaurants, book stores, music stores, etc.
But most of these hot guys don't look for 43 y.o. women.
I don't live in New York.
People definitely hit on me everywhere I go. So I dunno.
@@lorettaknoelk3475 You must be very attractive.
@@Whoeverwhateverwhenever She described how things were back in the day when she wasn't 43

Yes to all 😂
same here. my secret is i don't have any friends!
I always quit jobs with no PLA-
I guess some people like to jump from planes, but I like to do that.
I like how pla- caught on with the commenters 😀
Wonder how Joey payed bills & Rent while chandler was gone knowing his auditions didn’t go well cuz he sucked 🤣🤣
I’m Hispanic. I grew up with most of my family and friends within walking distance. And we always just nocked and walked in. Lol. I miss that
We don’t watch for the reality we watch it to escape our reality’s
Yeah, friends is a sitcom not a reality tv show that has realistic stuffs. If you all pay close attention on the entire seasons, you notice that a lot of the episodes are set like 1 week or even 4 weeks after the previous episode. I have seen friends like 4 times and i noticed how the episodes are not continuous, it is set in 2 or 4 weeks after. I love friends even though it makes no sense like affording an apartment and have so much free time
Monica's apartment was rent controled cuz they believed her grandma was still living there... Idk how Chandler and Joey afforded theirs though
Rachel's financial back-up is her wealthy dad.
But she decided that she didn't want to be held up by his money thus she "painfully" cut her credit cards
@@charliejoson9145 A back-up is a back-up. Most people cannot quit their jobs just because. She had a safety net and thus, knows well that even when she didn't depend on her dad, she could.
Well I come from a background where family and extended family is around more actually there was a time my aunts and her family lived across the street from my familys house but wont lie I longed for the tight friendship aspect that Friends showed but since I was more stressed and pressured of family first the friendship thing was just never going to fight in
But no one bases real life on a half hour comedy show. Hilarious to watch the video and the comments.
I watch tv to escape realities of life not to do a masters on why Friends are unrealistic..
It's baffling that many fans say that Friends is very relatable.
NOT TO MANY FANS ARE BLACK PEOPLE IM GUESSING
There are plenty of situations throughout the 10 seasons that are relatable. It doesn't have to be relatable on every single aspect for people to mention how some episodes feel relatable to them.
Omg Chandler and Monica ship was awesome since season 1 you can feel the love 😂❤
What does no pla mean?
Well, fathers (for the most part) still get to live their lives even after having children so Ross barely being with his kids on screen is not that much unrealistic.
He stops seeing & even mentioning his kids.
Top 20 times friends made no sense
1. The gangs luxurious apt
2. How did they have time to hang out at central perk
3. Chandler can't cry
4. Rachel thought joey is proposing to her
5. Emily's decision to stay married to ross
6. The disappearance of Ben
7. Rachel is pregnant for over a year
8. Ross is 29 for 3 yrs
9. Joey and Monica's apt number
10. Joey keeps the 20000 dollar boat
11. The chick and the duck
12. The gangs confusing birthday
13. Chandler and Rachel greets like strangers in the pilot
14. Different wedding venue
15. Does Ross hate or like ice cream
16. Sudden disappearing sharpie ink
17. Rachel's decision to leave Barry at the altar
18. Monica's apartment door stays unlocked
19. Phoebes knowledge of French/Italian (cuz she's lost with the word su chef and don't understand Paolo's language but can teach joey fluent French and talks to his grandma fluent Italian)
20. Phoebes homelessness (why can't she just move in with her grandma sooner
1. Illegal subletting and rent control
2. Off days exist
3. Enotionally stunted
5. Marriages are worth working through for alot of people
6. Fathers realistically dont get alot of time with their kids in shared custody cases
17. Because some people fear marriage...but eant the wedding..theres a real life case of a womam that married a man an immediately pished him off of a cliff because she only wanted a wedding.
19. Pheobe only said she learned french and she picked it up conversationaly not formally so there can be gaps
20. If I remember correctly she ran off after her mother's suicide..Pheobe always hints to choosing to live on the streets..that happens more than you think.
@@Novakane78 off days exist but not all together. Exception is joey Phoebe and Monica bc they nighttime/occasional workers
@@leonardolim8976 yea but we aren't talking everyday...we are talking on whatever occasion they do line up
6. I’m guessing the disappearance of Ben happened due to the Sprouse twins leaving acting.

They struggled with all those issues in the series 😂 they are broke, work gets in the way of life, divorce was a headache.
It was a look at life in 90’s not life now 😂
The top 10 list I was msmojo to do hen i comes to Friends are:
Top 10 Times Ross Geller's Love Life Has Been One Disaster After Another (The top 10 Friends moments where Ross Geller has proven to be unlucky in love)
Top 10 Ross and Joey Moments on Friends (moments featuring Ross and Joey including the controversial Joey and Rachel storyline that near pitted Ross and Joey against each other.
The biggest mystery is why Ross do not take a job in Paris and move there instead of Rachel not going there. For starters, does she still have a job?
Its called COMEDY!
If you want realism, watch a documentary.
#RIPMatthewPerry
Monica only pays $200?? Jack, Janet and Chrissy over on THREE'S COMPANY has to scramble $300 a month in the '70'&'80's. Both cities now a days charge more than $3k+ per month.😂
To be fair, yes the love of your life can be right there in your friend group, and yeah plenty of people are tight friends 10+ years. Just saying. And that Ross hardly sees or mentions Ben, that kinda tracks. He has his moms. They likely have custody. And he likely ditched his weekend with him to hang out with Rachel at Central Perk.
So you don’t need Friends, you need documentary drama about living in NY? Of course sitcoms are unrealistic, that’s not what they are about
My big one is how they can eat everything they want without any worry about weight gain
I feel like #6 only happens in the films.😅
Yes I agree 200 percent. 😂😂
That’s why I loved HIMYM more. It was funny plus more realistic. ❤
I'm sorry, I was watching until the dating point and you do realize it's a tv show, a sitcom? :D
what about how Rachel got a job at Ralph Lauren without any experience?
Omg Phoebe looks like Barbie 😂
I think u missed the mark on this count down. Is tv, people are beautiful, streets are clean and not dangerous, etc. Definitely a miss this time.
ITS TV ITS FICTION NOT REALITY I WATCH THIS TO GET AWAY FROM REALITY FOR ABOUT 30 minutes
My two best friends live next store to each other and we’re not in college
Its almost like, it is fictional
That's a weird Video. Seriously ridiculous. Shame on this video. ITS A SITCOM
Maybe just maybe it’s a tv show and it’s not reality.
I stopped watching....people do realise TV is not real...watch mojo really trying here.
omg its a TV show. didn't your mother ever tell you tv is not real
Sorry, but it's tv. It's a sitcom. If anybody honestly expected it to be their reality, they're a fool.
It's not labeled as reality TV for a reason.
Shit even reality TV is fake
Divorce do not take a year. In sweden they take much shorter time
Chandler and monica try to get a baby
Yup getting a job is joke and we're broke
I´d like to debate number 5 hahaha
OMG you are obsessed with Friends!! You do know it ended almost 20 years ago?
MsMoj has issues. I changed my career later in life and it was rough but worked out well in the end. I have no regrets so her issue with quitting a job you hate has no merit. Knowing you have to make a living pushes you that much farther to make your dream job come true. So Chandler and Joey were right.
@@carinnovick2995 what are you talking about!?!?!
@@carinnovick2995 That has nothing related to what the comment was about
This "analysis" of Friends is so stupid! Do they understand the idea of a "sitcom"?? Apparently not. I watched Friends for the laughs, not to compare it with my life. Anyway...
