Ross is really a overhated character for me. Many point out his mistakes and bad things, even though many of what he does are good things. Like he never complained that the division of custody of Ben was unfair just because he thought this was what was best for Ben, then that he tried to be okay about Joey dating Rachel even though it was clear he wasn't okay because even Joey knew how he felt to Rachel and knowing that Ross still and will always love Rachel, and how he bought Phoebe a bicycle because Phoebe had never tried riding a bicycle before and many others.
I think the ‘on a break’ situation comes down to the fact that Ross stormed out without them establishing what being on a break meant. Rachel shouldn’t have let Mark in to the apartment which let Ross get the wrong idea. They’re both at fault but Ross ultimately should not have slept with someone else 🤷♀️
I feel like the Richard thing should've been more about age gap relationships. Richard wasn't so much against kids because he had them (though it was part of it) as he did not want to start living kidfree life until he was 70. And honestly, Richard being Monica's dad's best friend since Monica was a kid made the relationship yucky. And it was something only Ross brought up once or twice but was ignored. Similarly how Ross brought up it was unfair he was expected to be okay with Carol and Susan because it was still cheating and he was left for Susan. If Susan was a man it wouldn't have been seen that way. Instead of having any conversation, the writers went with a "she'd be a bad lesbian if she was with a man SIKE" joke.
I never really got into “Friends” until it has already been on for 4 or 5 years but for me it was a show that sometimes wasn’t afraid to “push the envelope” with some issues like gay marriage and surrogacy even if it did a lighter take for comedic value.
The dealing with divorce one really hits home for me as a child of divorced couple who couldn't be in one room for years. All the family drama spilling I didn't know about...That's traumatizing.
It's even worse when your parents don't divorce, but still live separately at the moment, and whenever they come together for any reason they fight like children. I've had to go through that for years, and recently my dad started living separately. It's less fights and less triggering moments for me, but still tough.
(My) Honorable Mention : "Dealing with Death". As someone who has lost so many loved 1s in his life, Mr. Heckles, as well as, Monica & Ross's nana dying (twice! 😂) were a couple of my favorite episodes.
For me the whole “Joey falling for Rachel” line was what happens when you fall in love with a friend but that love is not reciprocated. Honestly was kind of cruel to Joey who really did not deserve it but at the same time it showed that sometimes the nicest guys do finish last.
I can see how you see that but that had nothing to do with joeys niceness, it didnt work, they tried. And if you forgot, joey was not a nice guy to the women who fell in love with him
He really did finish last. Everyone still talks about "Matt" and no one asks "which one?" THERE ARE TWO OF THEM. He's literally the only one who remembers Joey.
For me the whole Phoebe storyline hits hard. I've never had to go through SUCH a difficult, traumatising time, but she did and it was crazy how she came out like this, a lovable character who's SO strong and still positive and optimistic. I love all her quirks, I ADORE the fact that she found someone who can match her... someone like...Mike. I am so immensely proud of her and she's just my favourite character. I've also had a pretty rough childhood myself, and I mean I'm still basically a minor so it's still not great but yeah. Phoebe inspires me. She truly deserves all the great things she got. ❤️
One thing that is commonly said with comedy is that it’s so watered down nowadays. Back then comedy was a safe spot to poke fun at anything bc it was for laughs it’s sad that we are even restricting laughs now. The fact that friends and the office would’ve been off the air before season 1 finished is sad
For me, the episode where Ross and Rachel break up the first time really brought a tear to my eye. They weee so perfect but it shows the importance of loyalty and respect for your partner. What Ross did was wrong but he made it worse by trying to cover it up. I love Ross but what he did to Rachel was wrong and he deserved all the treatment he got from her.
This is the main reason why I never understood the debate whether they were on a break or not. If Ross thought he didn't do anything wrong, why go to all that trouble to try hide it from her?
@@Blitze9792 Yeah.. he tried REALLY hard to make sure it never got back to her, ever. I don't know if he would have or not, but he was willing to take that secret to the grave at least at that moment (and with advice from the guys). Maybe it would have been better if it had stayed a secret, idk, lol. But finding out that someone tried so hard to hide something from you only to then use "we were on a break" as an excuse probably feels awful. And you'd always wonder if you had never found out, would they have ever told you? I don't know if it was at all salvageable, but him just coming clean completely and just being like look, I thought we broke up, I was heartbroken, I heard whatshisface in the background of our call which made me even more heartbroken and I drank WAYYY too much is definitely better than what actually ended up happening. Not super better, but definitely better.
They forgot about how parenting can be hard. A great example of this is when frank jr notice how taking care of 3 triplets can take its toll on him. Luckily he she had phoebe to tell him that she can help out whenever he wants
Maybe I am missing something. Is "on a break" the same as "breaking up" ? In my understanding, they are two very different things. "On a break" is like taking time off from each other, like a vacation. "Breaking up" is they are no longer seeing each other. In my understanding, "on a break" means Ross and Rachel were still a couple but taking a break from seeing each other. It does not mean they could start dating other people.
For #9 I was thinking of the episode in which Ross and Joey find that when they nap together on the same piece of furniture, they wake up feeling very rested.
We know that Monica was best friends in high school with Rachel, and Rachel and Mindy were also friends since childhood. So it's likely that Monica was friends with Mindy as well.
I’m surprised that chandlers addiction to smoking wasn’t discussed or even an honorable mention. Especially after what happened in the one with phoebes birthday dinner. Where chandler smokes and Monica is furious with him because she knows that it can kill him but he just can’t quite because he is just too far in and too addicted. I feel like that can be very serious since it is drugs and a lot people can relate to a loved ones having addictions. It can be very heartbreaking so I was very shocked when it wasn’t even brought up.
through thick and thin always there for each other yes these scenes are hard and even tear jerker through out the series still love the series through through
@@Valentina-ng4hh my take is yes they were on a break even Rachel says so. Ross then didn’t give the relationship 24 hours to save. The second break up I say was Rachel’s fault they weren’t ready to get back together but the only reason she wanted him back is because she got jealous of seeing Ross with someone else
I think the issue with Chandler's "dad" is not quite a misgender. I mean it is, but looking at it from Chan's point of view I understand his difficulty and maybe also his refusal to call his father "she". It can't be easy, even more in that period when this subject wasn't as discussed
That’s what drives me nuts. They don’t even think about that. How hard it was on Chandler. Knowing your parent as one thing and then they change up like that. It’s gotta be a struggle.
Agree with most of the picks. Would also add these: - Getting fired from a job, which happened to all of them at some point, except Chandler - Treating your kids differently, like the Gellers did with Ross and Monica - Having different beliefs and world views (like Phoebe and Ross), but learning to respect each other - Being bullied at school or work (happened to Monica, Ross, Chandler and Ben) - Unhealthy jealousy (Ross) - The challenges of long distance relationships (Ross and Emily, Monica and Chandler, Phoebe and David) - Having anger issues (Ross) - Fear of comittment - How healthy parental marriages affect the kids, versus unhealthy - Not having health insurance (happened to Rachel and Joey)
Yeah, a man who woo a woman 21 years younger, who he knows since she was A CHILD, who he surpasses in both experiences and knowledge, and if they end up together, he'll be the dominant part of the relationship and she'll be a widow for about the gap of age, making him if not inmature (he find equal in mind in a woman 21 years younger) for a man of his age, at least very selfish, yeah, Id love that my daughter meet a dreamboat of a man like that when she grows up.
20:00 Grew up in an evangelical Christian family, and even my mother thought it was ridiculous when people complained about Carol and Susan's wedding, saying they were going to boycott the show. "Here's a show where every single character is ridiculously promiscuous, people sleeping with a different person every week, and the first time a couple on the show finally _wants_ to commit, suddenly it's a problem? Besides, given all the sleeping around portrayed on the show, what are these supposedly devout Christians doing watching it in the first place?" 😂
Top ten worst date on friends 1. Chandler stuck in a stall with pink underwear (the one after the Superbowl) Honorable mention .joey/ mary allan and phoebe/mike .ross and rachel spent the night at the museum .joey and erica 2. Joey and chandlers double date (the one with yhe candy hearts) 3. The whitened teeth incident (the one with Ross's teeth) 4. The leather pants gone wrong (the one with Ross's leather pants) 5. Ross and the dirty girl (the one with the dirty girl) 6. Ross and rachels worst blind date (the one with the blind dates) 7. Monica dating chip matthews in high school (the one with the cat) 8. Im over ross (the one where rachel finds out) 9. Rachel meets Josh's parents 10. Monica and ethan
I will go to Miss Matthew Perry, because I am sad because he’s dead on with the reality and he will always be there for and he will always be my brother is pretty hard for me to that he’s gone forever I will never forget about him no one replaced him I always love him very very much he always makes me laugh and until my guts out I do need him I always do I didn’t get a chance too met him but in person I’m crying too much because I missed him and ❤ love him very very much but that’s life I wanted too hug him
There are other issues. Chandler unhappiness with his job. Ross sabbatical and eventually career change. Monica and Phoebe beginning a business, but other opportunities showing up. Rachel starting a career from scratch. Joey never giving up of his dream even when it wasn’t working (having Chandler support him financially). Yeah, I’m entering my 30s and career things are manifesting in my mind. Friends shows these kind of struggles as well. However, everything works out there.
They might have been on a break. An undiscussed one, because Ross ran away and slammed the door on the way out because of a problem HE caused. Rachel was trying to build a career, a network, a life from zero, and all the while he acted like she was just pulling another one of her spoiled tantrums. In reality, she was building herself up and growing while he stayed the same and he couldn't handle that. Rachel made many mistakes, but every single one of them is overshadowed by Ross's neurotic ass
it makes me feel even more roommates moving out joey and chandler when joey moves out chandler was sad and eating ice cream alone that part was hit me rock bottom down oh and alcohol disorder when fun Bobby it’s sober
Well the most serious issue to be noted is the passing away of some of the greatest characters on and off camera, but mostly off camera whether they are the main cast, recurring or special guest appearance. Like in the form of Gunther (Michael James Tyler), Mr Treeger (Mike Hagerty), Dr Leonard Green (Ron Liebman) and more importantly Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry). It still hurts even to this day and I don't say this enough but may they rest in peace, also to the other actors/actresses that made appearances in the show.
They WERE on a freaking break AND it was her call! He should NOT have slept with someone with things as delicate and tenuous as they were with Rachel, but he was also hurt and hurt people often act out. It was definitely immature.I don't defend either character, because they were both boneheads. However, I don't feel that Ross should be the only one in the scenario taking all of the heat. OK, I said my piece 😂
I kind of agree with you, they should have discussed what a break meant for both of them. She kind of made that rule and didn't explicitly tell him that. Bad assumptions will kill any relationship
A break is different than a break up. But regardless, you would think someone loving someone so much wouldn't run out and sleep with someone else right away and then lie and try and cover it up. He was a very naughty boy.
@@Ashbrash1998 I always though they definitely should have discussed what "a break" meant to them.. personally, I wouldn't think it meant sleeping with other people, but they didn't get a chance to discuss what it meant. Ross stormed out and slept with the first girl that hit on him. Tsk tsk.
I honestly believe that it's important for a non trans audience to see the differences of the ways trans communities are portrayed... watching different shows and how they deal with less generic topics or individuals.
Ross never cheated on Rachel. A “Break” is short for “Break up”. She broke up with him. You don’t get to pause any relationship. It’s a teenager’s daydream to imagine that you can.
Ross is garbage for sleeping with copy girl, but it's important to note that he thought Rachel was jumping into bed with Mark that night..it never wouldve happened otherwise.
Even though Jennifer didn't get a baby of her own she is the godmother of coco arquette the daughter of Courtney aka Monica and David aka Malcolm Malcolm was Ursula's stalker and dated Phoebe
😮😮Rachel having Mark in her apartment when Ross called her means that they were on a break. I mean, the one man in the entire planet that should not have been there.
I keep hearing (mostly on this channel) that they didn't handle Chandler's dad properly and it isn't so. I think that children of trans people get a pass on "misgendering' them. I'll have to watch the series again but I'm almost certain that Chandler uses feminine pronouns to reference Helena but it's not malicious when he calls this person Dad or slips and uses masculine identifiers.
As someone who had an ex that I now realize is a lot like my dad in my parents marriage…I had to realize my mom married her Alex. And that really sucked
I think the Chandler's dad storylines get more flack than necessary. Yes, they should have had a transgender person playing the character to be fully inclusive, but I never saw it as making fun of the character, but how Chandler handled it in his own way - through self-deprecating, dry humour, like other difficult aspects of his life. We're always seeing the character through Chandler's perspective, not really our own.
Totally agree. I think the fact that you seen chandler go through the internal struggle of the whole situation with his parents, to becoming accepting and understanding of Helena shows a remendous amount of personal growth for a character that, early in the show, clearly wasn't in touch with his emotions. Not to mention Monica's part in the storyline. Helena as a character did carry some amount of comedic targeting, but in my view, no more so than any other character on the show.
Phoebe's REAL family : Phoebe Sr (Mum, Series 3/4) Frank Sr (Dad, Series 5), Eursela (Twin Sister, Most Series) Frank Jr (Half Brother, Some Series) Alice (Sister in Law, Series 4/5) Lesley & Chandler (Nieces, Series 5, 6 & 10) Frank Jr Jr (Nephew Series 5, 6 & 10) NONE WENT TO PHOEBE & MIKE'S WEDDING IN SERIES 10
@@aimimori7025that's really not. I mean Emily was annoying, but what do you expect from your wife after saying the name of you ex, with whom you have a complicated history, at the altar? She maybe was a little bit excessive and should have just not given him a second chance (I probably wouldn't), but she did and he wouldn't do the one thing she needed to regain trust in him. For me they weren't really in love, they rushed into a marriage because they were into a passionate relationship.
i personally couldn’t be happier monica didn’t stay with richard. who watches their friends’ daughter grow up from diapers and want to date them later?!
It was not cheating they had broken up. Rachel was pretty clear on that topic. I do not understand how still there is even a conversation about it, the show is on video, has dozens of reruns and there is still people that deny what happened on those episodes. Rachel: I want a break. Ross: Ok, let's take a break, think about this. Rachel: No, a break from us. Next day Rachel: I am sorry about the break up, can we get back together?

Like he never complained that the division of custody of Ben was unfair just because he thought this was what was best for Ben, then that he tried to be okay about Joey dating Rachel even though it was clear he wasn't okay because even Joey knew how he felt to Rachel and knowing that Ross still and will always love Rachel, and how he bought Phoebe a bicycle because Phoebe had never tried riding a bicycle before and many others.
Thank you so much for your language surrounding alcohol. Alcohol use disorder is a disease and your non-stigmatizing language is so appreciated!
It minimizes the personal responsibility and choices. It all starts with choice.
All the family drama spilling I didn't know about...That's traumatizing.
same ik how Rach feels being a child hearing ure parents fight sometimes in front of u
Even the Cathy joey and Chandler love triangle was also crazy and the Chandler on and off again affair with Janice was also epic
i loved joey and rachel,he actually cared for her and would never treat her the way ross does
This!!!
Exactly. Ross can be selfish and entitled.
And if you forgot, joey was not a nice guy to the women who fell in love with him
booooooooooooooooooo
That’s your nostalgia talking. In the past there was a lot less you could talk about compared to today.
Not super better, but definitely better.
dat broke me too like Pheebs says"see?hes her lobster"
I would have LOVED seeing Ross and Rachel get married. I feel like that would have been a perfect end to the show
@lakeluv...Agreed, would have been a great ending.
For #9 I was thinking of the episode in which Ross and Joey find that when they nap together on the same piece of furniture, they wake up feeling very rested.
The love triangle of Monica Chandler and Richard was also epic
I think it was more a love square or something...Janice "Oh! My! God!" lol
Even the mike David and Phoebe love triangle was crazy too
I loved Matthew, but I also loved Monics with Richard Burke, the gorgeous Tom Selleck...
I could never figure out why Richard and Monica were at Barry and Mindy's wedding.
It's sort of similar to Matthew Perry 's addiction
The divorce was really relatable for all of us.😞💔
through thick and thin always there for each other yes these scenes are hard and even tear jerker through out the series still love the series through through
Love love love Friends. No matter what anyone says this show was just perfect. And didn’t discriminate anyone at all.
Perfect? It's full of unlikeable of stock characters.
@@davidz3879are you planning on leaving these replies on every positive comment about the show?
Let’s be honest, Ross and Rachel WERE on a break. Their breakup was rough, and no doubt one of the saddest television breakups I have ever seen.
I agree.
Not an excuse
they were on a break, I think the big deal was Ross sleeping with someone not even 2 hours after they said they were going on a break.
@@Valentina-ng4hh agree
I think the issue with Chandler's "dad" is not quite a misgender. I mean it is, but looking at it from Chan's point of view I understand his difficulty and maybe also his refusal to call his father "she". It can't be easy, even more in that period when this subject wasn't as discussed
That’s what drives me nuts. They don’t even think about that. How hard it was on Chandler. Knowing your parent as one thing and then they change up like that. It’s gotta be a struggle.
Phoebe was a First World War nurse in her past life.
This TV show is turning 30 years old next year
Rachel's abusive sisters (Amy and Jill)
Agree with most of the picks. Would also add these:
- Getting fired from a job, which happened to all of them at some point, except Chandler
- Treating your kids differently, like the Gellers did with Ross and Monica
- Having different beliefs and world views (like Phoebe and Ross), but learning to respect each other
- Being bullied at school or work (happened to Monica, Ross, Chandler and Ben)
- Unhealthy jealousy (Ross)
- The challenges of long distance relationships (Ross and Emily, Monica and Chandler, Phoebe and David)
- Having anger issues (Ross)
- Fear of comittment
- How healthy parental marriages affect the kids, versus unhealthy
- Not having health insurance (happened to Rachel and Joey)
This won’t be the same without the presence of Matthew Perry
RIP Mr. Bing. You will be missed ❤
Ross & Rachel were clearly on a break
100% agree with you
Richard was a dreamboat ❤
Top ten worst date on friends
1. Chandler stuck in a stall with pink underwear (the one after the Superbowl)
Honorable mention
.joey/ mary allan and phoebe/mike
.ross and rachel spent the night at the museum
.joey and erica
2. Joey and chandlers double date (the one with yhe candy hearts)
3. The whitened teeth incident (the one with Ross's teeth)
4. The leather pants gone wrong (the one with Ross's leather pants)
5. Ross and the dirty girl (the one with the dirty girl)
6. Ross and rachels worst blind date (the one with the blind dates)
7. Monica dating chip matthews in high school (the one with the cat)
8. Im over ross (the one where rachel finds out)
9. Rachel meets Josh's parents
However, everything works out there.
i hope you do more sister sister and reba videos as both have tackled serious issues as well.
I don't know why i just loved seeing monica and richard together... But later on Chandler too..
Same!
8:15 you can try but it really doesn't work cuz itll come up again and again then it causes both to fall/drift apart even further
You should have touched more on suicide that was brought up throughout the series
Who? What suicide?
@@charliejoson9145 phoebe's mom
Monica wanted a baby and she got two 🥺❤
what about when joey found out that his father was cheating on his mom
de one dat broke me was Ross n rachels horrible fight n joey leaving chandler
5:12 THEY WERE ON A BREAK!!!!
Just noticed that Alexis Arquette, Courtney's SIL, was their waitress
They might have been on a break. An undiscussed one, because Ross ran away and slammed the door on the way out because of a problem HE caused. Rachel was trying to build a career, a network, a life from zero, and all the while he acted like she was just pulling another one of her spoiled tantrums. In reality, she was building herself up and growing while he stayed the same and he couldn't handle that. Rachel made many mistakes, but every single one of them is overshadowed by Ross's neurotic ass
Ross and Rachle really on a break Comment “Yes” or like for “No”
Serious Issues= Emmy Time
*Love Ross and rachel❤.*
it makes me feel even more roommates moving out joey and chandler when joey moves out chandler was sad and eating ice cream alone that part was hit me rock bottom down oh and alcohol disorder when fun Bobby it’s sober
Among Roos and Monica’s parents showing Favoritism. I am sorry that does not sit well with me at all.
Question: Why was Rachel's mother at Carol and Susan's wedding? For that matter, why were Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, and Joey there?
Tsk tsk.
@soultune908Lmao I’m pretty sure it’s the same. They even have the same word.
The Ross joey and Rachel love triangle reminds me of the Sally Nick and Adam love triangle on young and the restless
For me every moment did this.
Rachel sait it her self at 7:05 'a break from us'
The Joey Rachel relationship was so well introduced with him accidentally proposing. But it really went downhill
Rachel deserved better.
You forgot about Phoebe's twin sister Ursula
Ross is garbage for sleeping with copy girl, but it's important to note that he thought Rachel was jumping into bed with Mark that night..it never wouldve happened otherwise.
Even though Jennifer didn't get a baby of her own she is the godmother of coco arquette the daughter of Courtney aka Monica and David aka Malcolm Malcolm was Ursula's stalker and dated Phoebe
So Lisa and Courtney were pregnant in real life that's cool
😮😮Rachel having Mark in her apartment when Ross called her means that they were on a break. I mean, the one man in the entire planet that should not have been there.
I keep hearing (mostly on this channel) that they didn't handle Chandler's dad properly and it isn't so. I think that children of trans people get a pass on "misgendering' them. I'll have to watch the series again but I'm almost certain that Chandler uses feminine pronouns to reference Helena but it's not malicious when he calls this person Dad or slips and uses masculine identifiers.
Rachel wasn’t a single mother.
As someone who had an ex that I now realize is a lot like my dad in my parents marriage…I had to realize my mom married her Alex. And that really sucked
They live in New York in the 90s and missed an opportunity to tackle race relations.
even if you are on a brake, you dont cheet!!!!!
It's called Being Homeless. houseless? 😂
Phoebe's REAL family :
Phoebe Sr (Mum, Series 3/4)
Frank Sr (Dad, Series 5),
Eursela (Twin Sister, Most Series)
Frank Jr (Half Brother, Some Series)
Alice (Sister in Law, Series 4/5)
Lesley & Chandler (Nieces, Series 5, 6 & 10)
Frank Jr Jr (Nephew Series 5, 6 & 10)
NONE WENT TO PHOEBE & MIKE'S WEDDING IN SERIES 10

i bingewatched friends 12 times. i keep wanting to watch it again but i keep thinking of when ross and rachel break up. i don't like that part
There's no debate. They were on a break from their relationship. Rachel herself was the one who initiated it.
I agree with all I LOVEE Friends ❤
There’s also Russ’s abusive relationship. His wife wanted him to choose between her and Rachel.
that's not abuse
And willing to make a widow of her for about the years of the gap they have.
Next day
Rachel: I am sorry about the break up, can we get back together?
@soultune908 being on a break and acting badly during it are two different things.
I can't hear the word "entanglement" without thinking about Jada Pickett Smith cheating on Willard Smith with her son's friend. What a lady
