  • There is a trick to the assembly process that was shown to me. Isabelle's Parlour A Yarn Boutique showed me and suggested making a video of how the spindle goes on. She said she spent 45 minutes trying to figure it out.
    This is not a paid sponsored video, so there are no commissions involved with the two below suggestions on where to buy one.
    I got mine at Isabelle's www.isabellesp...
    For more mainstream shopping, Herrschners sells it as well. www.herrschner...
    If you have independent yarn shops near you, you can probably see if they have one or request one when they buy from Lykke.

    What a unique piece of craftsmanship! Thanks Mikey for the demonstration. I will put this on my Christmas list. Meanwhile, the plastic one will have to do.😢

    And if you keep that center strand out of the ball when you pull it off the spindle you have a perfect center-pull ball. No more fishing for the yarn end!!! Beautiful piece of equipment. So nice to treat yourself to quality tools!

    I have one loke this I picked up through Marly Bird awhile back. If not using for a while, they suggest to pull the rubber loop up. To take the tension off of it. It will extend the life of the rubber loop thing.

    I have a very similar one and found that after a time the bottom of the spindle where it hits in the cone would start slipping. You can put a great big rubber/elastic band around the bottom, the edge were it touches the cone or you can glue on a piece of rubbery elastic stretchy stuff, ex - piece of old rubber glove, old inner tube or rubber tourniquet. (The ones they use when getting a blood draw, they throw the out so I always keep mine for crafting.)

    I just bought one of these. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. I bought a cheaper one that didn't come with instructions. But I got going and tada! I don't attach it to the table - at least not as yet. This is great. I'm still learning from you so I am glad you did this video. Thank you! ✌🏻💟😁🧶🇺🇸

    I always put a hair clip on the other strand with a tag from the ball. So it does not unravel and I have the tag from the yarn.. thank you for the great video

      I open the paper that comes on the yarn to begin with and tape that to a little bit of paper to extend it and then tape it back around the ball. If a partial ball I can make notes on the bit of paper.

    Ok, crazy question. I really have issues with the skeins you can buy at the store. (Yarn barf, its a thing) Does anyone wind the skeins with a yarn winder, or is that just a crazy me being weird thing?

    • @stephanienorris364
      @stephanienorris364 Рік тому +4

      Depends on the yarn, but I would if it is giving you trouble. Its actually quite relaxing to wind cakes and they store so easily with flat bottoms. No rolling off the table or your lap, nor the tangled mess of commercial skeins.

    • @kerriwolfton3195
      @kerriwolfton3195 Рік тому +2

      I do because I come across the same issue with yarn barf with some brands of yarn.

    • @originalgreenfuzzer
      @originalgreenfuzzer Рік тому +7

      I do, but not because of yarn barf. I do it to check for factory knots and faults in the yarn. I like to have the issues taken care of before starting a project.

    Now you have pronounced the brand Lykke correctly. It is from the Finnish language, if I recall correctly?

      It’s Norwegian for happiness. Close geographically, but very far apart in terms of language families. It does look very Finnish however. 😉

      Lynn, I've always rolled yarn by hand, for 50 years at least. I finally bought a nice metal winder because frankly, I was sick of yarn barf, attacking cats and spending too much time hand winding! To each his own, I always say BUT... Don't knock someone else's idea. Especially when it's such a time saver and so much fun to do! 😉
