One of the best National songs. The power. The energy. The suaveness. The scorn and the loathing. Sublime.
Superb live, I had heard it so many times on the album, but only when I saw it live did I hear it for the first time and finally understood the power and energy of it, great tune.
This is the their hardest song and one of their best.
I love it when matt screams!
Don't think I will ever get sick of this song
I wish they had written more rockers like this and Abel. Tremendous band, regardless.
Their darkest and most intriguing song.
This is the 2nd best song off Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, glad to see a proper video was posted.
I just love the way he screams at the end
"90 Mile Water Wall" is the best National song ever!
class class class, and the at the end reminds me of my nirvana days.great song full of passion energy.love it
it doesn't get any better than this. and the lyrics.. i mean, i felt the EXACT same way about a crush i had a couple of months ago. and this helped me a lot. i love national. i do i do i do!
I discovered this song today and cant stop listening ! :)
What an effin tune!
Greatest band of this decade! More like the greatest band of this century!
Just discovered this as well- tune reminds me of Cult's Selling Sanctuary in sound just a little- I was turned onto this group a few years back and can honestly say this was one of the best finds for today's music. This band is truely gifted...
Anyone who ever dated someone they didn't love, or loved someone who didn't love them back can relate to the scorn and self-loathing in these lyrics.
Did you clean yourself
For me last night
Put the water out and donned a marigold
In your hair to bring me here
Tie one on you
Did you dress me down and liquor me up
To make me last for the minute
When the red comes over you
Like it does when you're filled with love
Or whatever you call it
Do you feel alone when I'm in my head
While you wait for me
To take my breath?
Do you still feel clean
When the only dirt is the dirt I left?
How can you blame yourself
When I did everything I wanted to?
You just made yourself available
You just made yourself available
Why did you dress me down?
Why did you dress me down?
Why did you dress me down?
Why did you dress me down?
Why did you dress me down?
Dress me down?
Why did you dress me down?
Dress me down?
Why did you dress me down?
Dress me down?
Dressed me down and liquor me up?
And liquor me up?
And liquor me up?
And liquor me up?
This song everytime i listen to , makes me cry..
Just discovered this band. This is a great tune. Must buy more discs.
Great song one of my fav The National rocks out......
I get hooked up to this song really...I can just listen to it over and over again.
This song makes my adrenaline rush into my brain!
so good! playing and playing
love this song , I can't hear it enough!!
so young and impudent
I miss this The National
Love this. Love every phase of The National.
This one really reminds me of Afghan Whigs.
Funny how The National mentioned that band on their new album.
@@Agentohyeah right???? I felt so vindicated....lol
Still bumping this 2020.
i seel sorry for the people who don't like this, and even more for the people who don't know the national
Their show at The Wiltern was phenomenal.
amazing
I love this!!
band of my life
I have a different feeling of the song. I think it is really the question of eating each other, of lasting passion what you cannot control. The song is all about the desire, the will to touch the other one who is so available so irresistable. To be touched, liquored up, dressed donw giving yourself away to the hands of the beloved. And the end of the song is just lust. Let's do it (again) the yearn for it!
A great song! Passion & intensity, beautiful.
Exactly! I was listening to this and then he started to scream, I was in love.
I LOVE IT!!
Awesome song
This has been "my" song for the last 3 years or so. Unfortunately.:( Sad songs forever..=}
That part where Matt Berninger
Time for a replay.
Couldn't believe they played this when I saw them.

10 years old and hasn't aged at all.

No sorry...best NATIONAL song ever!!!
Great song! Prefer the live version (e.g. iTunes festival) though, where they added the "cardinal song" -end! Still one of their best songs! :)
hahah wow I just accidentally clicked on this and now i kinda like the song:)!
this is their best song!! why didn't they make more songs like this!!
@robbymc I like it when he screams in "Slipping Husband"
NEEDS to be on spotify, I lost my copy of the cd :'(
I love that Touche Amore covered this
One of the greats....
Wow alot more intense than the chilled out nature of boxer and high violet.
素晴らしい最高
I wonder if they'll ever play this live again.... Feels like the timing is right
That they have
@victoireGGG one of the best :)
Caster Troy on the bass!
can you say: compression?
@EverythingTaboo Absolutely;)
@hyruleangel I ain't mad at you man lol! Im getting goosebumps just from listening to this song. =)
Is this album worth listening to?
Yes.
It has some good songs
YES it’s worth it for the first and last songs alone
@hyruleangel
totally true...I've been saying it for the last decade
@ThousandthSkies well i like your opinion. sounds right. Thanks (:
@TheOissin ya think the metaphor of 'relational cannibalism' might be one of his favorite themes??? (Conversation 16)...
powered by matt berninger
This is a very interesting mix of U2 and Joy Division.
Afghan Whigs too
@yaemal not just the instrumental parts!
@hyruleangel With arcade fire, definitely yes
Souled music
lol awesome.
Matt looks like a clean cut Kurt Cobain. I never thought I would compare matt to him but in this video, in my opinion, he just looks and reminds me of him =)
i just had the same impression when I saw that video for the first time.
fucking great song, i couldn't turn it even louder on the stereo
@@PascalSpring I love that! Love how a comment from when I was a teenager sparked a response from you 😁
touche amore played this song well also
The Mission? The Cult?
I know that feel, bro :____)
can someone tell me what he is saying in this song? i think i get it. but im not sure i understand what it means. "how can you blame yourself
when I did everything I wanted to, you just made yourself available" ? how about this part?
@stephaniee1109 if you havent had a look at song meanings before it might be worth looking at, just search song meanings in google, the people who have posted can probably explain what it could mean better than i can :)
To solo gitarowe brzmi trochę jak cranberries w daffodil lament :-? czy nie?
Well....this is free world with free minds :)))
I didn't know Elton John was playing guitar with the National
nirvanaesque
do you still feel clean? when the only dirt is the dirt i left"
And I freakin LOVE it!!!!
My favorite line

Need to see this and "Rylan" live. Then....I'm good. Dig a hole (Six Feet Under, great TV series btw), fire up a furnace, whatever. Buh-bye.
this must be a song for me
I think I fucking love this man. I love his band. I love his daughter. I love him. That's all.
Great song, first half reminds me of early U2, then it becomes more Nirvana like, not the worst inspirations to have!
Can anyone get me the bass tabs for this song?
