  • It’s easy to obey God when you are sure of what the outcome of that obedience will be, but what about when the outcome is not clear, or when things turn out differently than you expected? In this full sermon, Bill Johnson teaches from Judges 20 and the importance of developing a heart of willingness to obey God, regardless of the outcome. A lifestyle of obedience to God provides us with a clean conscience, and establishes in us confidence in God and His goodness.

Such a good encouraging word! I want to share my testimony in a nutshell. After five years of marriage I became born again. My husband did not want anything to do with the Lord. As a young Christian, early in my faith walk, the Lord showed me I was to stay, with a promise of his salvation. I prayed and trusted the Lord for 34 years. And then the day came when my husband gave his life to Christ. What joy! Those years were very difficult at times. We had four children. I will never forget when the Lord ask me if I was willing to go through the storms in life for my husband to be saved, and ask what was the value of this one soul to me. I was faithfully encouraged and strengthen through the years by the Holy Spirit and the love of others from the body of Christ. My husband lived 7 years in the Lord before he went home home to be with Jesus. God taught me so much through those years and in the suffering. The Lord was already in the day of my husband’s salvation when He made the promise to me 34 years prior! There truly is a blessing in obedience, even in the suffering.
God’s truth always brings light and life even in the most difficult and darkest places. God bless you.

Thank you for sharing this testimony. I’ve been waiting 11 years for my husband. We were high school sweethearts. 13 years passed after a breakup. Neither of us married. I became a Christian in those years and my husband held hope of my return. We married soon after reuniting. If prayer wasn’t a daily practice we wouldn’t survive. God is still faithful when the outcome isn’t as expected. The waiting and searching-has deepened my love for our Father and created an intimacy with Him that I will always cherish. Thank you sister for your example of patient endurance. ❤

I just shared this with my sister. I’ve been crying throughout this whole message. So deep and real. God has changed my heart so much in this wilderness journey to get me to my purpose and destiny. I’ve lost everything in my obedience walk with the Lord. This really opened up my understanding and encouraged me. Because now I know about the rewards in heaven that I hadn’t realized fully until now. Gods bless you pastor Bill Johnson. Your messages have been a blessing to me.

Thank you. I am at a point in my job where I ask myself "do I do what I believe is right and honorable or do I just keep my head low and proyecg my butt". I think about every time in the past where I did what I believed was right and it didn't work out.
Thanks for strwgnthing my confidence. Part of me says I'm getting to old for these risks and need the security now but I also believe I am at where I am because God wanted me to be here.... I will follow the Lord.....

I agree with all your rich insights, Pastor Bill (Jesus is our Lord and we work for Him rather than vice versa, etc.).
However, I have often mediated on this puzzling passage of Scripture, and I feel that spiritual opposition from the demonic was the reason why the Israelites were defeated the first two times. It was always God's will that they prevail in their righteous cause but, like us today, we are in a war and "taking a hill" is costly. We also experience casualties and set backs, but we will triumph in the end (Rom. 8:28).
"I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in THE LAND OF THE LIVING. Wait for the Lord with courage; be stouthearted and wait for the Lord." Psalm 27:13

Bill, my daughter died the day before her birthday at the age of 33 years. 2 weeks after our youngest son was sentenced to life in prison. 2 months later my dad passed away, 3 months later my husband experienced a cardiac event. This speaks to me because the main question that has come to me from Father God is, "Do you still believe me?" and I tell you the truth, it HURT but the answer just 18 months after the event is ... YES DAD, I DO! We continue to believe. Thank you for this message. I forgive you for the first part .... ROFLOL!

I felt this message go straight to me heart. Then Bill mentions God raising up Green Berets at the 38 minute marek. I was obedient to follow Jesus into the Green Berets, and over the last 2 years I went to Green Beret (Army SF) selection and failed unexpectedly. It didn’t make sense to me. This was a reminder to be obedient and get up and try it for the third time.

A few years ago, I was led to that same story in the book of Judges after serious disappointments in the same fashion as described in the story. After having a similar experience again recently, I remembered this scripture but didn't pay that much attention to it (I must have gotten a bit familiar with it). Bill has just elaborated it in such a way that I understand it so much better and I'm once again encouraged by it. Thank you so much, God bless you!

Pastor Bill, I want to thank you again for YOUR obedience in bringing this important, challenging word to me.
Indeed this was painful to hear. I find the level of discomfort in a message given to be commensurate with the level of conviction it brings to my way of believing. I find in your teaching the importance of needing what I needed to hear vs the shock of realizing this is an area I need to change: to believe and trust God even when my expectation of it happening the way I(!) think it should doesn't. Especially in the time frame I believe it should.
I keep being reminded of Heb.12:11 with reference to the phrase 'THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINED BY IT.'
Like Jess DuPlantis likes to say, 'You cut me good there Brother!"

15:00 ... there's something powerful abt yielding to the sovereinty of God
knowing that his goodness will more than make up for anything that I am in that is so confusing and doesn't seem to be headed in any kind of redemptive direction.
Confidence of his goodness, yielding to his goodnes, thats the lifestyle of obedience.
obedience provides us with several things ... but the lifestyle of obedience provides us with st that is one of the rarest commodities In the church and it should be the most common. And that is the clean conscience.
17:12 I know for a fact that I am harvesting today the seeds if you will that I planted 20 and 30 years ago. He is faithful but He is also wise. And He knows exactly when I will need what. My responsibility is not to obey SO THAT He will do st for me. I obey bc He is Lord.
21:55 ... when you and I stand before the Lord, our greatest tresures will be the things we didn't get rewareded for, here on earth.
Our greatest treasure will be everytime we were rejected, instead of celebrated.
The greatest moments where you will stand before, and you will be so thankful I was ignored, in that moment I should have been honored, but I was ignored, bc in that moment, you receive his reward.
The greatest reward will come to us in that moment for things we didn't get fulfillment of here on earth.
... bc in those moments he makes up everything we missed here.

@@BillJohnsonMinistries I love your teachings, Bill. You have insights about the Word and God that really convicts me and leads me to repentance. I loved this teaching on obedience. However, saying that I am creepy for criticizing what I believe to be Copeland's love of money is not addressing the issue of what appears to be misuse of God's finances. But I'm a nobody so what do I know.

@@BillJohnsonMinistries I also don't know (or can fully agree) that Kenneth Copeland confesses the Christ in the Bible. So, based on that belief (right or wrong), I was not criticizing the "one who confesses Christ."
