This wasn't even published on an April 1st. Yet clearly ironic.

This video is really crafty. You completely foxed me until you mentioned Adam Sandler.

I wasn't sure if Mark was making a video satirising the media's interpretation of The Master as being about Scientology or just criticizing Sandler.

damn I started out watching this thinking Kermode must of made it before Sandlers performance in Punch Drunk Love but nope I guess that wasnt enough to excuse all his past work in Marks mind no matter how good. At least he hadn't watched him in uncut gems yet, I think im not alone in saying IMO his best performance even outdoing his turn in Punch Drunk Love. Now with the ability to look back you know Kermode would have to eventually eat his words after the Safdie bros created that role specifically with Sandler in mind, he accepted, and went on to give a performance I don't think another actor working today would be capable of besting.

Yes! I've always loved Red Letter Media's humor, but I'm always surprised at how well they're able to analyse and present what goes on behind the scenes as well.

World Class BURN, my distinguished friend. You make sense. I cannot stand Sandler, either. The Master is a great film, Phoenix giving the best performance of his life. He is SURE to get nominated, if not win the gold statue.

What's really ironic is that Paul Thomas Anderson is very good friends with Adam Sandler and very much likes his movies. It's why he cast Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love in the first place

That explains why it's only being shown in one cinema in London. Sandler has too great an influence over the multiplex network for a wider release.

There's an excellent 'Red Letter Media' review of 'Jack and Jill' that investigates Sandler's career and films, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the man. It gives bizarre credence to Kermode's (joking) accusation. Worth skipping about a minute in, though.

But then again, Adam Sandler is the second most-hated person in Hollywood next to Michael Bay.

I've been dying to see this movie for ages, I try to avoid trailers/spots etc. because I don't want it diluted. Is there anything in this video that could have that effect or will it heighten the experience of watching the film?
