  • When visiting Munich, you're almost certain to walk in front of the Munich Residenz. This city palace complex has a relatively sober facade which made us wonder if it was worth visiting at all. We were really glad to have done it as it is Bavaria's most opulent royal palace with lavish decorated rooms portraying many different architecture styles from Renaissance to Neoclassical.
In this video, we show you why the Munich Residenz is worth visiting. Being the former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria, its origins date back to the 14th century but, over the centuries, it was expanded and transformed into one of the most significant and opulent palaces in Europe.
Explore the grandeur of the Hall of Antiquities (Antiquarium), walk through the lavishly decorated State Rooms and Royal Apartments and marvel at the large porcelain and silverware collection of one of the wealthiest royal family in Europe at the time. Whether you're a history buff, art lover, or architecture enthusiast, the Munich Residenz offers something for everyone.

What happened to the rest of the furniture?

Thank you for the comment! Much of the Residence was destroyed during the Second World War, and from 1945 it was gradually reconstructed in their ancient state. They used the original furniture pieces which were still preserved from damages and with the help of paintings and photographs of how the rooms looked like. Cheers!

Oi, Marta! Beijinhos. 😘

Hey, Catherine. Thank you for the comment and feedback! We’re so sorry our video made you feel sick. It’s truth at sometimes the transitions of the editor we use can be too fast and cause this sudden moves. We’ll try to work on that. Once again, thank you for the honest feedback. 😊Cheers!
