My mom bought one of these in the 1970s, and it seemed like it was used continuously for 25 years. She would use the last jar to have the next starter and have the rest of it for breakfast. I plugged it in a few months ago, and it works!
Oh my gosh I love that! I hope mine last just as long. That’s what I’ve been doing too! Saving the last jar for my next batch. It’s so nice to have a continuous cycle.
I just found the one with the yellow lid, at the thrift store today and brought it home. It didn't come with a box or any paperwork. I came across this video, when trying to look up instructions for this unit. I hope it works! My husband has been using a lot of yogurt to make sourdough bread lately, and I like to eat yogurt, in general. So, I was very happy with the find. And I'm so happy to see this video, too! :)
Oh I’m so glad this was helpful! Feel free to email me and I can send you pictures of the manual should you want additional info! Enjoy your yogurt making endeavors. 🥰 I’ve consistently made yogurt twice a month with these units since I purchased them.
@@emmasalaskanhome I tried but I think the unit is broken it never even got warm. I also made a batch in the instant pot and that came out great. I’ll look for a new unit it when im thrifting
I just stumbled across one of these at my local thrift store. It was marked $3.00, but was half off!! Mine is the first one, clear lid with white jars. I am so excited about this. I was making yogurt in my electric pressure cooker, but the yogurt setting stopped working. (To be clear, I was not pressure cooking the yogurt. 😊) Anyway, my Salton set did not come with any directions, so I am thankful you did this video! How long do you let it ferment?
What a great find! I’m excited for you. I use mine all the time. I do a big batch every few weeks. Once I plug in the units and pour in my liquid I let it sit overnight, about 8-12 hours depending upon when I get it done during the day. Then it’s ready the next day to eat. And I just throw them all in the fridge and they last a long time. I always saved half of my last jar for starter for the next batch.
Just 1 tablespoon should do the trick! It’s not an exact science. If you add too much it’s totally fine. :) just want to make sure there is enough of the good cultures to do the job.

I found one, too. Just to let you know that small jelly jars will also work in the yogurt maker. Thanks for sharing!
Yes! Thanks for adding that. I have used a mason jar when I couldn’t find the lid once. Worked just as good :)

Love it!
We just inherited my husband grandfathers unit. So excited to give it a try
I really hope you enjoy it! It’s so easy to use and consistently makes the best yogurt!
@@emmasalaskanhome just picked up the milk and starter this morning. is there any whey? Other yogurt making videos show having to drain that off.

@@gwenstone9685I sometimes have a bit of liquid on top but usually not much at all
@@gwenstone9685oh no! Best of luck on the hunt.
I appreciate you explaining how to tell hot enough and cooled enough! I don't have a thermometer.
Happy to help! I broke my thermometer and didn’t have one for a few weeks and it’s totally fine to make do without it :)
What a super cool find!!! I love the glasses so much, I’ve got to keep my eye out for them!
Thank you! Who doesn’t love a good thrift find.

They gave me one like that, they never used it and it's brand new! I'm curious to know what year it is.
Have you tried it out?!? I’d love to know if you enjoy using it!
How many spoons of yogurt for only one Yogurt Maker ????

So lovely to meet another one out in the wild!
Mine is blue and white with no instructions
I’m sure you can use the same instructions I’ve included in the description. Thanks for watching!
