Luke, the on trail handling (understeer) is primarily related to the uncoupled rear skid, I'm not sure changing the ski/carbides will solve the problem of front end bite. I own a XTX and just returned from a 4 day backcountry excursion.
Riding an uncoupled skid needs adaptation. If you power into the turn the weight lifts off the front skis due to the weight transfer of uncoupled skid.
I found that lowering the front spring on the skid changed the geometry of the sled and allowed the front to bite on initial turn in on the trail just by lifting off the throttle a bit. Alternatively a left finger on the brake when riding aggressively helps by adding a dab of brake early corner while still maintaining some throttle. It's a different style of riding needed to master this sled on the trail. Ive riden many coupled skid crossover sleds and could power into trail corners easily, but accept the fact that the xtx is not a trail sled.
Some guys pull up the limiter strap to minimize ski lift, but i chose to go the front spring route. I'm 240b 6ft5. This trip i loosened the front spring lock before the trip and made a couple adjustments by had during my trip. Found that about an inch and a half lower than stock was the sweet spot for trail and off trail fun.
Love your reviews, i hope this is helpful for your viewership

Awesome looking sled! I'm driving a 2003 viper now... This is a huge improvement from that!

I'm looking for a dual purpose sled. I ride a Japanese dual sport bike and I'm looking for the performance and dependability for the snow. Had my mind set on an Apex but this just might be the one

It appears you like the SR Viper XTX SE 141 a lot better then the Sidewinder XTX SE 141 per your reviews on both .... Thinking your opinion is related to more push in the Sidewinder do to its power and therefore not so good handling in Trails?

You can order a wind shield for it and self install it.

i agree with everything you just stayed an maybe bring the sky with out another 4 inches couldn't hurt also i feel there trying to build the sleds to fit the trails but as these sleds get taller a few inches more on width would be nice. I think it's time to start adding some width to the trails as well. It goes back to the days of the 70s an 80s when some of the sleds were to fast for there set up as time change so did there suspension systems an there sky width in not saying i can't drive it at that width i used to drive some of the old 70s sleds but it couldn't hurt to go a couple inches wider. Not all people are experienced riders there is always new people coming to ride these hi powered machines so a little more stable bility couldn't hurt . Yes we are worlds of differance from back in the 70's an 80s but im not getting any younger either but not to old to get down with the best yet :) By the way what is the 1/4 mile speed on a lake with this sleed apox an whats it top speed ? If not 130 mph on top speed start again :)
