You didn't mention the biggest advantage of their acid blood versus advanced civilizations - it serverly limits where you can kill them as you risk damaging nearby equipment, floors, spacecraft hulls and the guy who shot them at point blank range.
If they didn't have that they'd be a _much easier_ firearm kill since collateral damage can cause massive damage.
It's why in Alien Tribes, humans develop alkaline laced ammo to kill them. The ammo neutralises the blood so they don't burn through the floor and also poisons the Xenomorph.

    • @granziii12
      @granziii12 5 років тому +5

What if their blood isn't actually an acid but a base? It would do the same thing, right? So this whole time we're developing an anti acidic ammunition or whatever, we actually needed to go in the opposite direction. Maybe it's so basic that it looks so similar to an acid. I mean if that's the case, it fooled us, didn't it?

The Xenomorphs greatest advantage is _human ignorance and stupidity._
Seriously guys, *hurry up with that Humanity First Guidebook.*
Here I'll help, these are some chapter suggestions:
Chapter 1: *Why looking in opening giant eggs is a **_bad idea._*
Chapter 2: *Crab Spider thingys and how and why to protect your face.*
Chapter 3: *So someone ignored chapters 1 or 2, what to do - hint **_kill them._*
Chapter 3a: *Why you should never be taken alive, seriously don't surrender.*
Chapter 4: *Why you should alert the chain of command **_before_** investigating strange noises and shadows in the distance.*
Chapter 5: *Acid and why it's a issue - **_splash damage_** takes on a whole new meaning.*
Chapter 5a: *A list of powerful common Alkaline agents and why you'll need them*
Chapter 5b: *The importance of acid resistant gear.*
Chapter 5c: *Remembering to check what's on the level below beforehand.*
Chapter 5d: *Gunfire and why going for **_overkill_** can sometimes be detrimental to your teammates.*
Chapter 6: *Why running away is always a good option.*
Chapter 7: *When running away will just lead to a infestation that will catch up with you.*
Chapter 8: *Self destruct devices **_are your friend._*
Chapter 9: *So you think you're safe **_now that it's all over?_** Why letting your guard down after the crisis can be bad news. Hint - they **_always_** sneak onboard.*
Hope this helps with that Guidebook…

Aliens are super adaptable to threats and can mutate deal with their enemies as shown in Aliens Colonial Marines, Aliens vs Predator extinction and so on.

Actually, xenomorphs are quite smart creatures.
Specimen 6 from A.V.P 3 burrowed inside her host after hatching to avoid capture. She also destroyed lights to conceal herself in darkness, which became useful in many situations.
The Warriors in Aliens cut out the power in the colony to get to the humans easier. They also set up an ambush in the vent system.
The First Archeron Queen in Aliens was able to negotiate a deal with Ripley: The queen would let Ripley and Newt leave peacefully as long as they didn't destroy her eggs. After that, she understood how an elevator worked after seeing it in use only once. Then, she hid in the landing gear of the dropship that the humans were using to escape.
Grid from A.V.P knew to avoid the plasma blasts that Scar was firing. He also was the second in command for the Antarctic xenomorph hive, second only to the queen.
I'd give more examples, but I'm using a mobile, which isn't easy. But this just goes to show that xenomorphs aren't dumb creatures. Their intelligence rivals that of a chimpanzee, almost human like actually. They've fooled and trapped lots of people. Don't underestimate them, they might just surprise you.

    3 biggest limitations
    1. No real space navy a strong orbital defense stops them
    2. Dependent on a host so a Robot army takes away their advantage
    3. They need a queen to produce eggs and face huggers so once you take that out they are limited till.a new queen is born.

The Aliens are physically the most lethal enemies talked about in this series.
Fiona Tank Girl calculated the Nids physically capabilities, the Hierophant can put out 100 + kilotons. The Ravager Alien, is calculated putting out over 15 megatons, theirs no material or Armor that can stop the Ravager, and one thig we can use for calculations is bunkers like Crystal Peak. During the Earth War, every bunker was torn through by lesser Aliens, and Crystal Peak can survive indirect 15 megaton nuclear explosions.

Aliens are actually pretty intelligent, though it it is influenced by their host, or infected target, the Command type Aliens, like Queen Mothers, War Empresses, and likely Kings, are calculated in universe, in Aliens omnibus 1, as being way more intelligent than humans, and with their ability to be aware of things cosmically, like in The Earth Wars and Aliens vs Predator Extinction, we see they can make extremely detailed plans and can share information universally.

Has this guy even watched the movies he shows clips of? Aliens can be incredibly intelligent or incredibly dumb. It seems that in large numbers they rely on those numbers instead of smarts but they ARE smart. Some examples:
*All movies the aliens often wait for their prey to be alone, weak, or distracted before attacking
*In the first movie the xenomorph just so happens to hide in Ripley's escape shuttle? It could be coincidence or that alien could have realized the ship was in danger and to hide out there, but granted that's speculation and it could have been dumb luck
*In the 2nd movie the queen tells her warriors to stand down when Ripley had her flamethrower pointed to her eggs. This shows that the queen knows what flamethrowers do, and knows not to attack Ripley when she has the upper hand, this scene also shows reasoning that if the queen let's this human go then her eggs will be safe so she calls off her attack. Also the warriors didn't immediately attack like instinct would tell them to, they waited for the queens order to attack.
*In the third film the alien realizes that the humans are leading it into a cage to trap it. This shows that the alien can think ahead and it also dismisses the notion that the intelligence of the host effects the alien as the host was a canine..a dog and most dogs while loving are not intelligent enough to see a trap it's being led into.
*In alien vs predator movie the xenomorph that fans call "net head" uses it's blood as a weapon when it's tail is cut off. Instead of thinking it's tail is gone and therefore has no weapon the alien adapts to it's new handicap and turns it into a strength by flicking it's tail and using it's own blood as a weapon. This shows that not only is the alien aware that it's blood is acidic but also planning, as instead of charging the predator like a wild animal it uses it's blood to attack from a distance.
*In alien resurrection? When the 3 xenomorphs were stuck in a cage with no way out they killed off the weakest one to use it's blood to melt through the floor. This shows alot of intelligence as they planned an escape, they were aware of what their blood does and used to to get through the floor.
*Also in the 2nd alien movie the xenomorphs as you showed charged the turrents that the Marines were using to hold them at Bay. True this wasn't a bright idea but the aliens were checking their defences to find a way in and they did! The aliens chose a way in that even the humans didn't think about, the ceiling.
*Also in the 2nd movie it shows the queen alien aware of how to use the elevator after only seeing Ripley use it once. Those elevators were not automatic and you had to press a button, the queen saw Ripley use one and figured out how to work it in seconds... So all in all they are much smarter than you think, their intelligence goes way further than "only knows how to hunt"
To poke some holes through his other "flaws" here we go:
    * weakness to firearms....what? You just said their armor is tough enough to withstand small caliber rounds...that's not weak, thats damn impressive, when's the last time you got shot by a pistol and the bullet bounced off you? yeah bigger caliber guns can Peirce their armor but the attacker as we have seen time and time again is also at risk of being hurt from the acid blood so still not seeing that as a downside
*Vulnerable to fire...uh what isn't? Humans with all our tech still don't have suits that can withstand flamethrower for long periods of time, and those suits are expensive and impractical, hell even predators don't want to be on fire as it does hurt them
*no ships. Ok...but they don't need ships. Xenomorphs don't have a plan for a galactic empire, they are essentially parasites. They land on a planet or ship and kill everything on it, something they do damn well mind you. And what's the purpose of a ship? That's right to get from place to place, well aliens already do that by stowing away on those ships...why build a ship if one: they don't have any Galaxy domination plan and two: they can highjack a ship...so why build one?
*Bad genes. Where are you coming up with the whole "they can't select the best traits of their host" bs? It has been shown time and time again when I xenomorph impregnates a human it comes out the same way every time. Also I have not seen any differences in intelligence from different aliens of the same birth species. Other than "net head" and queens all the other xenomorphs haven't been shown to be any dumber than the alien brother next to it.
In the movies we even have a variety of intelligent hosts, from scientists, to colonists, to soldiers and none of the offspring from those hosts seem different from one another.

I agree, I really get annoyed when people say that Xenomorphs are 'Stupid' in terms of mentally. Yes they aren't creating spaceships or anything but they are extremely cunning. Though you did forget to add that in Aliens the Xeno's also cut the power before their last attack, which shows they knew that cutting the power would help them. It also shows how the marines were still under estimating them as Hudson flipped out going "How could they cut the power, they're animals man!"
The aliens charging the turrets makes sense, due to the numbers they had. Mostly because when they had taken the Colonists they hadn't had to deal with Turrets before so they were something new that the Xenomorphs hadn't encountered before and had to figure out. So they eventually retreated and found another way to bypass the turrets since they didn't know that they were actually pretty much out of ammunition.

Regarding the intelligence, they are far above primates and are capable of abstract thinking. Cases in point, abandoning one failed tactic to pursue a better one, understanding the importance of electricity to their prey.
Regarding vulnerability to heat, they are far less vulnerable to it than most species. What they have is an aversion to fire, which is not a vulnerability, quite the opposite.

M41A pulse rifles easily tear through xenos because they fire a 10×24mm caseless round. I remember a line in Aliens saying they're explosive tip armor piercing too, so of course they'd be susceptible to that.

  • @weldonwin
    @weldonwin 5 років тому

I'm going to have to contest the point about Xenomorphs being categorically vulnerable to firearms. The reason the Pulse Rifle and Smart Gun were so devastating against them, is because of the ammunition they were using. Both weapons fire armor piercing rounds that explode inside the target, specifically for defeating enemies with hard-shell body armor like that used by the Colonial Marines themselves, which is what made them so ideal for killing the Xenomorphs. Against more conventional ammunition, the Xenomorph's exoskeleton is pretty damned effective armor. See the scene with Vasquez in the air vent, unloading a 45.caliber M-1911 handgun into a xenomorph at pointblank range and having to jam the barrel right to the side of its head and still shoot it three or four times to get through and even that didn't put it down instantly.

American Ben, you *should* be proud of that last line, because it was one of the greatest lines ever spoken.
Centuries from now teachers will teach this line in school. "What's an SJW?" the kids will say. The teachers will reply: "Its what literally everyone was in the early 21st Century. You see, back then before Liberal and Conservative leaders across the world came together to form our Worldwide oppressive mega-corporation, people had opinions. Everybody thought that their opinion was right and everybody else's opinion was wrong and were therefore either a racist or a cuck, depending on what side of the fence they sat on. It was a terrible time of chaos. Luckily opinions were banned in the year 2084 and there has been world harmony ever since."
But anyway I digress. Great line.

    more advantages:
1 - they can enter a state of hibernation and survive for thousands of years.
2 - they don't need food once they are grown up, they take very little from their prey's brain and never eat the corpses.
3 - they can survive in the vacuum of space or frozen for thousands of years.
4 - they have a good sense of "smell", and can sense the scent of humans and animals.
5 - they have other senses and can feel when a ship has changed course when humans can't.
    more flaws:
1 - they emit detectable electromagnetic waves that can be used to track them in the dark (avp2).
2 - apparently they need a queen to reproduce, a drone may or may not be able to turn into a queen (in some cases they turn into praethorians), queens come from special chestbursters and special facehugers from special eggs.
3 - they need other creatures like humans to reproduce.
4 - they need to be told to attack synths, or defend themselves from them. androids and machines are not detected by xenomorphs and in many cases they can't even track their scent.

I feel like a TON was skipped over in the Bad Genes bit. The scenes shown of the abomination for a 'special xeno' were incredibly misleading, I think. Maybe it's just bad timing, maybe you forgot a few key details: It depends which evolutionary canon you're going with.
The original movie Hive was intended to be a classic ant/wasp nest hybrid with only a drone cast ruled over by a queen. The movies which followed have, with little deviation, followed this formula. 1+1= Perfect clone of a Drone (because it's regarded as a 'near perfect species') which can become a queen as needed.
The comics opened up to a variety of combat castes capable of morphing from the drone over time as it gradually molts the shell. (they're really cool since their hoard's strength is determined by the number, size and strength of local fauna before a world has been left barren with nothing but xenos in hibernation after war)
We've been reliably shown in either timeline/canon that each species has a single outcome when infected by huggers. Exceptions exist in captive lab settings but are dismissed thanks to the fact scientists don't actually study the things worth a damn and really more interested in creating their own abominations they can control from birth. (Proto-Davids.)
Speaking of abominations. Special cases or 'abominations' are results of unnatural or forced change of an individual's genes. Obviously this is going to have unpredictable outcomes when the parasite is left to work with unnatural or unstable genes which couldn't reproduce a normal human kid if they tried.
    Examples.
Hybrid Ripley: For starters she's a clone spliced with a 'queen embryo' into a hybrid ... whatever that discontinuity is supposed to mean (which never bears its ugly head again)... the end result is basically what you get with roughly 1/4 xeno inbreeding. A rare phenomenon, thank Weyland.
Predators: They apparently cherry pick their favorite features from species around the galaxy to become ultra hammy apex space predators. Forgive me, but I have to relate them to Astartes. Each Chapter would yield a different parasitic outcome due to genetic differences, just like predator tribes or what-have-you. Of course, there needs to be a hierarchy to maintain a balance within their society. Or at least a bigger badder predator, hopped up on even more mutations. You know where this is going.
Alternate/Opposing hive minds: Someone manages to capture and culture a xeno hive. These xenos are manipulated on a genetic, chemical and psychic level in order to reduce hostility towards humans (albeit more like the semblance of a treaty) and force opposition against feral xeno hives.
Interestingly, the movie canon hasn't touched the topic of hive warring at all. Would the assimilate each other? Would they war due to differences and differing queens? Do the queens practice political warfare in order to deal with other species? Do they all rally under the fabled Queen Mother?
There's a loooooot of room for expansion into such titillating directions. Unfortunately the franchise is a joke at this point, thus why it's so easy to overlook all the interesting details which sprung forth these monstrosities. ...I don't know what the writers are huffing these days.

As it relates to their acidic blood, it occurs to me that nobody ever thought to exploit that nature by introducing a base into their bloodstream. Many "base" materials could easily be used to craft a sort of specialized ammunition to use against the Xenomorphs. Moreover many "base" materials can be vaporized and dispersed in the air. I'd imagine a creature with acidic blood breathing in large quantities of a base would have some pretty nasty results.

the xenomorph is actually sentient, in scenes from the original script of alien which wasn't filmed it's hinted that ash had been speaking with the alien, it's al also seen by the alien's tactics in aliens and alien resurrection
other things to note, while a solid hit from a 10mm explosive round to the chest or head is effective in killing them, again scenes from the original script of alien that wasn't filmed shows the alien capable of regrowing limbs lost due to injury (shortly after dallas's death where parker goes to refuel the flame throwers he bumps into the alien in the corridor near the airlock and calls for ripley and lambert to open the lock inner door, when the alien enters he tells them to close the door only for the alien to jump back into the corridor trapping a limb in the door as the outer door is blown)

They consume alot of energy early on, at least in some appearances. In the novelization of the original Alien film they actually catch the small Alien raiding the mess hall and eating the food there before its fully matured. It still grows super fast but the novel did show that it consumed a lot of calories to help it grow.
Other appearances like the AvP films just kind of....completely break that concept by having them go from chestburster to adult drone in like 10 minutes. Where upon originally it still took at least around a day.

Hey, maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events, but the Xenomorph DNA isn't doing anything random with host traits. Their basic blueprints isn't "DNA" at all, but rather a radically advanced artificial intelligence. It's also "fiendishly creative". This means you cannot predict exactly what form or abilities it will have. It also means it isn't going to just "dumb down" or "devolve" from successively dumber hosts, or eventually take on too much host DNA or whatever. The Xeno AI blueprint basically can immitates portions of the host phenotype, but there isn't a two way cross happening. The host DNA doesn't become part of the Xenomorph "genetics" anymore than your finger is part of a donut when your finger is poked through a donut hole.
