Atonal music like Schönberg is actually the hardest thing for Derek to play as is. He tends to 'correct' it by making it tonal. He'll keep it extremely complex but overlay his own rule system over it so that it makes sense.
@@derekparavicini I imagine it would almost be like trying to speak another language for Derek, his 'corrections' being the equivalent of speaking with a heavy accent.
Letting Derek listen to a performance of "Wizard's Walk" by Jay Ungar and then having Derek reproduce it and it's difficult sections would be incredible!
Hey Derek, love your music! It would be super cool if you took a look at 'At the Speed of Light - Arranged for Solo Piano' because nobody on youtube has played it so far! Keep up the astounding work
I think there is "something" of a melody. But it's jazz. It reminds my of Giant Steps. The drums were about to pop in before matt turned off the music and the chords would have been in a 3:4 polymeter with the drums. Basically 3 sixteenth notes each chord.
Derek is obviously a very technically impressive performer. One of the most impressive in fact. His playing lacks emotion however and is difficult to connect with. It sounds like a robot performance or AI generated music. I wish him all the best.
I don't know how you could prove that "his playing lacks emotion." I might understand what you are saying. Watch his ragtime videos. He is more idiomatic in some styles than others.
i bet if he bobbed his head around and made faces like a performer you wouldn't think his music lacked emotion. its ok if thats what you like, but its silly to say its like a robot when he clearly has his own style and things he likes and things he puts more effort into.
Derek is the musician's musician endowed with pristine divine genius. What you see in monkey suits and in sexy dresses & high heels behind concert grands being applauded by clueless crowds are clueless sheep music robots who can't create anything.
I understand why you made this comment but I do not agree with it. Derek's music is for people who are impressed by technique but many musicians are not impressed simply by technique. Derek's playing lacks emotion which is a key to making truly powerful and memorable music.
@@IliekDerek's brain does not have the ability to understand the concept of "emotion" as we understand it, he's creating music based on what he hears and in his own style, which is quite unique to him. People really enjoy what Derek is does, but you don't have to announce everywhere if you don't enjoy it, just move on
There are pianists and then there is Derek who is simply above and beyond. Your playing is amazing.
That was called, “Derek shows the world why no one can come close to his skill level.” Mind blowing and beautiful.
This guy deserves so many more followers.
This is so awesome. I love hearing derek playing more complex things
This is insanely good
Amazing 😍
Never thought id see derek playing alfa mist!
Now its getting really interesting. Could you play something weird by Schönberg dramatically and then improvise? 😊

Id love to hear how Derek would put different concepts into music.
Maybe he would enjoy telling a story through his play?
Derek should play RUSH E
He plays it all the time
@@PieInTheSky9 Where??? What video??
@@ydemxminecraft4161He's played it several times in his different lives, not sure which live though

Also, it would be really awesome to hear him play and improvise on Scarlet Begonias by Grateful Dead or Franklin's Tower.
I can't hear any melody or rhythm in this weird piece, but Derek manages to make it listenable, of course😊

I hear a clear melody
Can I request some pieces? :D
I wanna see him play the Chopin and Lizst Etudes.
Why does the microphone sound so muffled?
🤌🏼 🎹🎶 🔊
Does Derek understand music theory? Or does he make music purely intuitively?
He understands music theory

Derek is fantastically talented. There's no need to put down other musicians while praising him.
