    "Should I be joking at a time like this?" ...that part right there is what got me. As someone who has always used humour to deflect, process, and cope, there have been many times when this thought ran through my head. There have been many instances and situations in my life when people thought I was morbid or callus, when in fact, I was processing.
    I love that this song is both tongue-in-cheek and at the same time, serious...plays perfectly to the content (no pun intended) 😁

    His self awareness level through all his stand ups are unparalleled. And the fact that he can joke about it is amazing.

    This songs feels literally how I felt in my grandfather's funeral, making jokes about how the candies tasted like ashes (he was being cremated). I guess we can't help but wanting to make something about when we see our surroundings in pain, even if we are in pain ourselves. I deeply believe Bo loves humanity but also recognizes how fucked up it is so he can just externalize that dichotomy by making silly (extremely smart) songs.

    It's just an endless cycle, it seems. I am so close, personally, to where he was when he made this (I think). Just the constant feeling that yes, while I know I wake every day and contribute, I feel a calling for so much more. I almost feel like I am wasting my life away, not making a big enough impact. I feel when Bo says "if your house is full of smoke, call me, I'll tell you a joke" he feels like that is all he can contribute, and that is what he thinks others only see value in him for. While I know we are only limited by our minds, I have yet to get to the point where I feel brave (or worthy) enough to break out of this cage I feel trapped in. Funny how I see it so easily in Bo, but took so long to see it in myself.

    this may sound crazy, but this song is beethoven-esque, its the second song in the special, and hes talking about whether or not its even right to do, the special itself hovers around the idea of struggling with staying inside to a certan degree, the fact that he leads it off talking about strugglng to even make it in the first place is wildly genius in its musical composition, think beethovens fifth, dun dun dun dun, the whole composition breaks down to that rhythm , every small piece of it is in the same structure, including the multiple parts of the song, its brilliant, i know its not the same, but the idea is there, not a lot of people, if anyone, utilize that style of thinking, amazing, great post sir

    got to admit: i always have a hard time with the "i'd do it for free". while it is true that if you found what you are enjoying doing money isn't the main reason to do it, it is also a very priviledged thing to sa. I once was so poor that I could not buy food for more than 3 days a week. and i worked in the social sector on more than 1 Job at that time and heard so often that one does not do that for money and that volounteers are so important and so on. and they are. but being paid for an honest days work is too. i decided some years ago that i won't do jobs anymore unless they meet both criterias: I love doing them and can live from the money they pay me. me liking it is how *I* value my work, paying is how *soceity* values my work. Both has to be in balance. But then again most things in live are about balancing different needs...

    • @TherapeuticReactions
      @TherapeuticReactions  2 роки тому +2

      You're absolutely right, it is a privilege thing to say. When I started helping people I did it for free, it is only when I realized that people value money more then thier mental health that I started charging for it, and saw significantly more results and I was able to do that only because I have more then one business :)

    • @ApsaraMenaka
      @ApsaraMenaka 2 роки тому +2

      @@TherapeuticReactions humans are strange beings ;) We help homeless people. at first for free for them - the city pays for the service - but almost no one came. since we "charge" one coin, any coin, they come (we offer for them to also be able to 'work' for it by f.e. setting the tables) they come. i was curious and asked them why. we assumed they didn't value our service if they don't have to pay for it. but in fact it was the opposite: they thought they are not worth the help and since they now have to 'pay' for it they can see it differently. So maybe your clients also did not value money more than their mental health but paying gave them a bridge to being able to see themselve as 'worthy' for your help?

    • @meggsy82
      @meggsy82 2 роки тому +10

      I agree that it's a very privileged thing to say. I also think that's exactly the point which is demonstrated by how passionately he says "no!" when asking "should I give away my money?". The entire song is a lampooning of the "white savior" complex of thinking doing something rather insignificant is going to fix a huge problem if you care enough. I'm not saying his comedy is insignificant but, naturally, Bo takes it to the extreme. If I wake up in a house filled with smoke, someone telling me a joke is NOT going to help. Which is precisely the point he's trying to make.

      @@ApsaraMenaka it's a problematic subject because in my sessions I give tasks to progress at home as well... If it's free, people just didn't do it but when they felt they are loosing money, they didn't want to waste it so they did the assignments ergo achieved progress and then started doing it for themselves. Gonna go ahead and get this request out there in hopes at least one might make it. Once you finish on bo I think you would really enjoy some Watsky. Not a comedian but makes very deep and introspective songs and spoken word poems so it would give you a lot to talk about during your reactions.
    Stick to your guns - Watsky
    Talking to myself - Watsky
    Conversations - Watsky
    Tiny glowing screens pt 2 - Watsky (spoken word)
    Plus he technically has a song with bo. But bo doesn't say anything they just set a Lamborghini on fire so it feels like a natural progression 🤣

    Content is not inherently bad. There's good content and bad content. Making money off of it is also not inherently bad. Nobody is completely selfless, it's just the way we've evolved in order to ensure our survival. We all do things because we gain from it. Even when we sacrifice ourselves for a greater good, it's a greater good that we want, so it's a gain in our minds. It's not a bad thing. Motives determine if something is good or bad, and I'd like Bo to know that. His content is good.

      Feeling guilty about earning money simply off of something you created that is original and good is silly. It's a very simple idea really, we're in this system that tends to reward new, useful, or interesting things with value, so that eventually everyone is able to fulfill what they want to do, and society has more things to consume. That's it. And participating in that system fairly in my mind is morally neutral. And I'm glad Bo is participating in the system, otherwise we never would have heard him, along with so much other art
