In this video I'm going to explain how to use your NAS as a Media Server. When most people think about buying a NAS they think that it will simply be a backup solution, but thankfully companies like Synology put a lot of time and effort into making applications like DS Video for iOS and Video Station for their NAS devices so to allow you to stream videos from the NAS to all of your other devices in the home.
This is personally one of the most under-rated features and with a little bit of tinkering it can really be something you will use daily.
The best part about this as well is that it wont cost you anything to setup and is going to make everyone happy! Because who doesn't like watching TV and even better than that is watching your own content and no more ads!

Great video but this has nothing to do with Plex, so why did you put Plex in the title instead of DS Video by Synology?

Thanks for info on the DS Video app for AppleTV. I was encountering permission problems (server unauthorized) with Plex; the DS Video worked the 1st time.
6Yrs ago ... great and straightforward presentation. I would like to setup my home movie network to not use proprietary reliant apps. Is their an open platform which works not only on new but the older tvs and nas units IE Android TV V4.1 + and NAS 1Ghz cpu with min ram + , trans coding is across the file and container spectrum with some automatic capacity checker and mating for the network. How is the Synology at remuxing MKV for the Apple TV? Did you notice any lag or stutter?

How do I play my FLAC's off the NAS with Apple TV ?
So testing this and trying to watch a movie via Video Station on my pc failed and shows unsupported video codec.. All my movies were purchased thru Apple iTunes (over 200) and they all use wmv or DRM which prevents them from playing on any non apple device Can I assume if I set this up on my Apple TV I won't run into this problem?
I read that simply changing the movie file extention from wmv to w4v to mp4 will stop the apple protection but it didn't work on a Windows PC and it's a lot of work to try and convert 200 movies to mp4 if the apple tv will work with the original
make that the original apple itune extension is m4v not wmv

This is much better than Plex. Playback is super fast and remotely Plex is always terrible on my Nas plus I have to pay for it on iOS or ATV. This is like plex but without all the bloat. Simple setup with http

sorry but I have a question, who are you making these films for? Most of the time, you people who try to educate other people make the fundamental mistake of making movies. All youtubers (I think you've made an appointment) use monitors as large as a barn. The letters on these monitors are the size of a goat's ass. People! Get hold of yourselves. Do I have to use a magnifying glass for each of your films?
Maybe your screen is just too small... 😂
