Would love love love an Elodin book. I absolutely loved Auri's story, it is my favorite. I read the Slow Regard of Silent Things all the time.
I would sacrifice many things to get an Elodin book
Yes, that is something that we need. The world needs an Elodin book
"Weird Hogwarts with studen loans" fucking gold!
I know you think you're praising his work but from where I stand that demeans what he's written.

I didn't know I needed this interview in my life until it happened
spoiler: Kvothe was a ghost the whole time. Also, the wind's name is Phil.
This guy is brilliant, I'm starting to wonder if he's even human. Easily the best books I've ever read by far.
Hank be like 'don't notice me I'm just a normal photographer'
i love this guy so much. especially when he said he will be always in his mind this 16 or 20 years old geek. imo you can read all the storys you want or enjoy games or films whatever age theyre made for AND still pay your bills and raise a family
This is amazing, I can't appreciate it enough.
Oh Rothfuss the language is what made me stay and read the book.
Exactly!
13:41 - I did notice the thing caged in the background, but kind of let it go.
I so dearly wish I could hear that story for the first time again, just to experience the shock it induces.
Out of the 30 or so sci fi writers .... Patrick is currently my favourite. I really cannot wait for book 3 ! Awesome!
huh, wonder how Hank green got the job. cool.
I think this thing Rothfuss does (that he kind of exemplified at the beginning with the picture book) that truly shows his genius writing skills
I think while you were talking about how Kvothe goes out into and through the World it's why we can love it and everyone so much because we can so easily relate to it as we ourselves travel through the world...
Looked at the starting image and was like wait is that Hank? Unexpected Hank was unexpected
It seems that story and explanation a somewhat blatant way of preparing fans for an ending to the Kingkiller Chronicles that they may consider a twist ending and that they may not be entirely happy with. :P
If you read subreddits and fan theories you may see I that a lot of fans have created an ending or endings in their head that they really want to see and have devoted themselves to to the point where that is the ending they are SURE will happen. However, after watching several interviews it seems like the ending Pat has in mind is not what people suspect or necessarily want. He often answers questions regarding theories with "that's what a lot of people think" or something along those lines. I predict that the ending will be something that upsets a good portion of the fanbase at first but, over time and over several readings, like he talks about, people will see that it is in-fact quite a brilliant ending from a critical story telling perspective.
Personally, I am mentally preparing myself for an ending in which Kote doesn't turn back into Kvothe, and ending where he doesn't fix whatever he screwed up. and ending where he doesn't defeat the Chandrian, and ending where he either keeps on living a depressing life of a pathetic innkeeper, or rather, as the prologue AND epilogue of every book says....he just dies as Kote.
"It is the patient, cut-flower sound of a man who is waiting to die."
Many fans aren't prepared for the possibility that when Kvothe's story ends...the book ends.
Kinda what we were thinking too...
I've never seen an interview with him until this one but I've already had that mentality just from reading the books.
They pretty much beat into you the fact that this probably isn't going where you want it to
Ohh no. Book 3 is going to destroy us. Now I'm 100% sure that some character we all love is evil, maybe even Kvothe himself.... Though, god, I hope not :/. But he's telling his story, so he could be making all of it, most of it up...
Katharina A. I keep thinking of the Kvothe "killing the kitty"
I reread the book recently and Chronicler mentions a story that Kvothe had to kill an angel and now I'm just wondering who's going to end up getting it
"I ask that you not hold it against him. He meant well."
44:28 "That's our takeaway from the fanel pokes"
This dude truely is a genius.
"... And if you do know who I am and you don't know that this is what I do maybe you should have another read through my books...."
All I can say, in a Shatneresque scream, is "ROTHFUSSSSSSS!"
😂😂😂😂😂👍
Cпасибо бесконечное за ваш труд, Патрик! Имя Ветра - мир, превзошедший все мои ожидания своей живостью, как сон в котором я утонул, то и дело ухватывая из глубины слов проблески чего-то чертовски родного.
Wait, oh, maybe I need to re-read the books.
BitPuffin Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.
I know right?!
"Mama, I don't like this book" LOLLLLL. I love this guy. Just started Name of the Wind. So excited.
Gotta read the books a second time after watching this
What if he just never even planned on writing the 3rd book, like he hasn't even started it and just wants to see how long he can string everyone along?
Still waiting...
Still waiting
And yes I love the language- and it's one of the biggest reasons why I love the read, more so than other stories ( and yes I've read them 5-6 times while I wait ) PS I'm also a Tea Geek ^^
But right below in the corner of tNice tutorials blue screen, there's "Program" wNice tutorialch most likely states "Aggressive TE" if you click on that you have a
So the problem with writing stories in the same world is that we know this world largely through Kvothe. I'm loving the opportunity to read more about this world but worry it won't be as great outside of our beloved shaper. Kvothe is such an amazing character with the perfect perspective to appreciate this wolrd.
In regards to The Adventures of the Princess and Mr Whiffle,
Told my daughter to come check this out after the first two scenes. loved the suspense at the end of part 2( admittedly was scared for a long night of bad dreams) but I was hard pressed to not let my daughter finish it as she knew there was more. So on we went, and in the end my daughter was clapping along with the rest of the audience. Well played Pat.
P.S. Not sure if you give a hoot or will see this, but go Vikes this Sunday!

looks like hank green taking pictures at the beginning
When he says his favorite play is Cyrano de Bergerac, my very high opinion of him, which I didn't think could get higher, did get higher. That play is one of the best plays ever written. I consider him to be the best modern fantasy author.
Goes to Comic Con wearing a Nerdcon shirt. Hank I love you.
Patrick rothfuss called it magic
I like the King Killer Chronicles because of how it sounds
For anyone who didn't notice. - Kvothe's mother was a noble. And I bet you any money that Kvothe is now is now the Mayor's nephew in law 😉
And all through the book they were saying once you know someone's Name you have power over them. Denna changes her name constantly, really. really think why's she so cautious about that. my theory is that her Patron, whoever he is knows her true name, Kvothe only knows part of it (like the unhappy boy who falls in love with the moon) However Denna's patron has more power over her than that.
Holy shit just realized that
I enjoyed pats fallout 4 lets play. Hopefully he does more of this.
No entiendo un carajo dijo algo acerca de la fecha de publicacion de la tercera parte?
HANK!
And had tea.
There's a novella about Bast?!?!? Where can I read it? What is it called????
princessthyemis It's called "The Lightning Tree" and it's in an anthology called Rogues
What book is the one that hank green says at 34:00
Oh shit Hank and Pat in the same panel.
Which piece of drama does he mention in 20:49? can anybody type it?
Cyrano de Bergerac.
the kittenkiller chronicles
Nice
Kvothe isn't going to eat a kitten. Kvothe IS the kitten.
Lol random Hank walking behind him.
wow ok not so random after all
The thing Hank was talking about, with the break of the standard fantasy. Although I dislike Denna, the fact that the hero of the story is in love with a hooker instead of some princess or the sexy student (Fela) is awesome.
I disliked Denna until the second book. then I actually really began to actually like her. She has my respect now.
I'm dying until doors of stone
Denna is just a female Kvothe, if you hate her but not Kvothe then that's telling...
thesecondislander I don't think she's just a female Kvothe, thought they are similar.
Either way how telling could it be even if it was true. Kvothe would be, in my opinion, a hard person to appreciate if someone outside his head was telling the story.
We don't know that much about Denna
They are really different...
Amelle Kyre
That's what I'm saying. The difference between Kvothe and Denna is that we are following Kvothe from a first-person perspective, and therefore know his intentions and feelings. That's it. Everything else is just Rothfuss tricking us into making false assumptions, and this is exactly why he's such a good writer.
If you sit down and try to see things from Denna's perspective you realize that she is just like him, except that she's a woman, and she never had the luck of being educated by an arcanist at an early age. She is doing her best to survive using the tools she has, which are very limited. This has left her very much untrusting of people who she know could hurt her. She's obviously pretty damaged, just like Kvothe. Despite all this she's all but outright told our hero that she trusts him and if he pushed a bit more she would gladly follow. Kvothe is so clouded by his false assumptions that he doesn't really see that, and so we as readers are tricked into thinking he's being reasonable about her when he clearly isn't.
I encourage you to read the books again whilst questioning every fact and assumption Kvothe makes, and not being blinded by what your expectations tell you. It's been very interesting!
I am choosing to ignore the Cathay part Patrick - signed happily ever after lover a.k.a. Brandon S, marvel story lover haha
I had my hopes up that he would reveal a release date for Doors of Stone.....
lol noob (meant jokingly)
+Nick Walker yeah yeah I should of known better lol
I will be very disappointed if there isn’t a kitten at the beginning of Doors of Stone
Going to be sad if he doesn't finish.
0:36 Is that Hank Green?
Edit: 16:06 Gotcha. Yeah nm
Got to buy that book, classic Grimm style tale.
If you associate the Princess with Kvothe, it seems that in the end the protagonist turns out to be the villain. As for Anakin in Star Wars, a good little boy with big powers, Kvothe could lose the right way and become one of the Chandrians. (After killing them all, of course)
Well the crew in MY novel to be (someday) are ALL 'Good Guys & Girls'...
The voice from the girl at 44:50 is tremendously cute
idk what read im on but i just noticed that kvothe kills a kid lol
RPG pls
ua-cam.com/video/vMKn7IJGvcE/v-deo.html you just described Witcher 3, Pat.
how to do you spell the play he talks about 20:46
Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand.
Thank you :)
hank is not a very good interviewer lmfao but its lovely to listen to pat talk
should have totally done it in 7 books, i feel like there is no way i can be finished up in one more book, seems like there is 8 times the amount of time inbetween the first 2 books and him as a tavern keeper
My expectations for the ending of KKC just plummeted after seeing the ending he came up with for that picture book
"And so the princess ate them"
Well. We now know why she lived alone in a castle. I wonder where else she hid her, "arts and crafts"
No because to me, pats just the non shitty Cthaeh. And I love that head cannon so much.
Also, he is so tender when the little miss asks her question. You can tell he’s a careful parent.
19:20 you don't need to add a kitten. Kote means kitten.
This is my fear. Kvothe is the kitten and he's going to be eaten.
@kc in Siaru, yes. In many slavic languages it means kitten.
hay thars hank hai hank haaaiiii

This man is a brilliant storyteller.
be cool if he goes with Bethesda
CdprojectRed would be a dream come true. But if they did that. Itll come out in time for my grandson's retirement party
@@familygun1976 Perfect, just like Doors of Stone. :P
❤❤❤❤❤👍
Rothfuss at 44:26 - "That's our takeaway from the fanel, polks."
:pause, realize you just said "fanel" and "polks":
fanel polks?
Day 3
So ...Kvothe is a princess?
Is that the truth about princess Ariel? 😂
Two great works NOT happening now
where's the third book?
trying to get us to read everything again to keep stalling for the ending of kingkiller, which I now think will be that Kvothe eats everything. the end.
BAST HAS A NOVELLA?!?!?!?
Did you find it? It's in a compilation with other authors called Rogue. I think that's the name.
19:23 they ? hmmmm xd
Sounds like you need someone to watch over you when you are in creative world. I bet you have to be reminded to eat too.
Where is the third book tubby?
😂😂😂
He's fantastic- the books- eh. I tried to get on the hype train but it's just nowhere near what I seek in fantasy. Still, you can't help but admire Rothfuss' charm.
I think Kvothe's arrogant though.
He is smart, talented and young. Of course he is arrogant. Notice the difference betwixt he and Kote? Kote (older Kvothe) is humbled. What humbled him? I wanna find out. : D
The arrogance that comes from being young, smart and powerful. Kote isn't so arrogant, and seeing his journey from Kvothe to Kote is fascinating. As a side not it's my 6th re-read and i've only just discovered that Kote means disaster is Siarru.
Daniel Scott Most people who think they're smart really aren't.
But Kvothe is to be fair.
I'm guessing it was the "10 words to break a strong man's will"
Kvothe is not a good guy in my opinion
Yes he's brilliant but his hostile disposition toward anyone wanting to get an update on book 3 really turns me off. One half wants to make the argument that it's his story and he can finish it or decide to never finish it if he wants and everyone complaining is being unrealistic and selfish. The other half (my half) invested money and time into this trilogy and feel cheated when they're unable to finish the story. All the while he releases other, far less interesting work, pursues tv deals, teases that he's working on it and does tons of blogs/vlogs where he just screws around. I'm sorry but when you connect with that many people and they invest their time and money in you, you have an obligation to finish and deliver the work. He claims the trilogy was all finished back when the first 2 were published. I'm just over the whole George rr Martin writing speed thing and keeping people on the hook. Rant over.
Absolutely. I get frustrated when I hear people say "Pat doesn't owe you anything. GRRM doesn't owe you anything." That's completely wrong. They owe us EVERYTHING. The fancy cars, the nice houses, the fortune, the first class air travel, traveling all over the world. It was the fans that gave them their financial stability and happiness
Slow regard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the money goes to charity, A.K.A the Patrick Rothfuss bank account. LOL
Lol
kvothe will becmoe evil like lanre!!!!!
#the king kvothe kills is a kitten
Pat,just tell us;" book is finished like 5 years ago, but i want money and publicity , i'm scared to lose that if i give u 3rd book because that is the reason why u watch me play games in first place. Also i need for you to byes my other books".
don't lie to us, we are the fucking reason u are where u are dude,it's not cool. remember what your life look like before 1st book, and how long after u published 2nd one. l'm, (we) are not blind u know . I hate to compared people, but your constant talk about editing and re editing made me to. l want all of u to look Brandon Sanderson's books and tell me that he is bad writer because he don't need fucking decade to release book.
Agreed
great poetic writer. horrible storyteller.
he's like a discovery writer that got lost... and has no idea how to wind it up.
Perhaps you should consider the possibility that his refusal to 'wind things up' neatly isn't indicative of poor storytelling, but is actually an unusual and very rewarding way of telling a tale.
I'm struck by a quote of his from The Wise Man's Fear-
"It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. But give him a question and he'll look for his own answers."
Echoes in Eternity Dude worked on the story 14 years before he published Name of the Wind. The fact that he's taking long to finish the last one isn't strange at all.
He is just afraid to release book 3, after that he is irrelevant.
And fat.
you can have that opinion, and I can kindly tell you to please go away.
not all of us judge a person's worth only as "do they provide me with entertainment"
get some empathy, dude
I will get some once DOS is released.
he is Hella good looking and I am straight
Is Tolkin irrelevant?
Overrated.
Such an enlightening comment.
Thank you.
