Karate blocks start at close Range while grappling this is the Real context of it. Action is faster than reaction absolutely thats why "block" consept is not realistic and never work. Therefore these are not blocks these are "ukeru" which means to receive
You are very right , there is NO point in argument like Kungfu is better than karatte better than Kalari better than anything etc etc... Just Learn one thing and go deep and deeper into that, then we realize all martial arts have one goal , though their ways are different !
You Guys are great! I feel the Love for Martial Arts you have! Just learned the Kata Nijushiho and the Concept of the Mawashi Uke. Same Thing here...Great Stuff, keep it coming! Osu!
Some time ago someone explained to me that a block is equivalent to an attack, just as an attack is equivalent to a block. A block can hurt (even more) just like a hit. The problem is that if we only see it as a defense, we will never know the real application. Many times that is what limits us.
I am also a kyokushin karate practitioner and i too was not knowing the way of application of blocks... But i had the faith that ths is worthy And i used to practice it properly Loved ur way of explaining following u from a mnth!!!
Some of them work on the street pretty well. Years ago when i was younger i was in some fights and i used for example soto uke and it worked pretty well.
അച്ഛൻ മാസ്റ്റർ and മകൻ മാസ്റ്റർ are very good, Sperrrrrrr. Your way of teaching will atract many learners. Fun and comedy are too good. Very Interesting class. You are always focused on street fight. This is what people really want to learn. Your method of teaching is excellent. "Teach by jocking and learn by jocking". The Masters and disciples will enjoy. I think both of you can make a comedy film based on martial arts and its applications. God bless you two.
Actually double handed blocks like ageuke Shot uke has dual application. Ageuke is also used for hand breaking. 1st hand for block and grab then pull and break with 2nd hand
Yeah ! Actually those blocks are practical , I used the block uchi uke in the fight many times and did a counter attack 👍 those moves are practical ... And I love the way you represent karate and kalaripayatu , more respect to you ❣️
New style Anna 🔥😁 Awesome video.. That's what I actually thought of always. Karate blocks r not enough when u r fighting against non Japanese martial artist.... U need to constantly customize ur own fighting stance away from that traditional japanese karate forms..
Ok...you say karate blocks will not work against MMA/boxer type punches. And I agree. You then go on to say that karate is for real life where the attacker will not be quickly retracting his punches. And I agree again. The term often used for such attackers is "ruffian" and there is essentially the type of character that all self defense methods are designed to be used against. The problem is....why are there so many more complex movements in karate? Surely such movements are not needed to defeat the unskilled??? So are they intended to defeat an attacker with more skill? Which then leads us back to....karate blocks will not work against a more skilled fighter. It's tough for karateka to accept that their years of training don't really prepare them for dealing with skilled attackers. It's tough to accept that what they are learning is a method for dealing with the unskilled (which at the beginning of their training they would've readily accepted it); but now after years of training they are expecting more from their art. But it's an unreasonable expectation. If you want more, then you're going to have to seek further training and make many modifications to your karate.
Wow sir.. that's a very open minded approach 👍 .. I agree that the traditional Karate (Okinawa type) was not made to defend yourself against mma fighters..😅 ... Even I used to think that Karate has to be edited and (maybe add some boxing..or grappling).. But then I attended this seminar by 'soke Takeshi kitagawa' ..he is a japanese karate teacher... ....in an advanced seminar when he teaches blocking or defending...there are no traditional Karate blocks.. (every thing is slipping the punches..mma kind of defense... using your guard for defense..changing positions...) It almost looks like boxing..😜 ...and for the Karate blocks he teaches some grappling stuff... He says that the practical kind of fighting (boxing moves...mma grappling.. wrestling.. short and simple movements) were a part of the traditional Karate before it was modernised (before funakoshi Sensei made it simple for the world) ...and that makes sense... Because the masters used to fight each other on the island... And they were not ruffians .. So it should be practical (or else you get beaten up)... So I understand that the comlex moves you see in Karate are nothing but more complex grappling techniques.... And for fighting professionals they would use a whole different style... (Slipping punches...counter attacks ..fake moves + uppercut 😂) So maybe Karate was kind of complete ... But how many of us has access to that knowledge...(very less people) ... So maybe it is better to mix it up with easily available styles.. Like Boxing ..mma..judo... wrestling.. . 👆That is just my views on this... Anyway thanks for the comment
@@KarateTVtraditional Check out the views of Iain Abernathy...and he will support the belief that karate was not intended to be used against another skilled fighter. As for your comments regarding the seminar you attended....I've noticed a lot of "reverse engineering" since the UFC started nearly 30 years ago....suddenly it's been discovered that karate has all these MMA type skills. But for some reason they never taught it until the UFC came along. Pretty curious isn't it??
Another thing to keep in mind my friend, all tho these can be ✨applications✨these “blocks”can also be used as joint locks, arm breaks and many more,if u look at the old text of the old masters you’ll see such as Gichin funakashi, kenwa Mabuni, and my favorite Choki Motobu,he’s the one that said Kata is grappling with your opponent,if u close the distance you’ll find that many of these moves were nvr meant to be blocks in the first place, the Japanese label them as blocks bc the one who brought karate to main land japen(Gichin fanukashi)didn’t teach the practical applications and plus the Japanese wasn’t interested into grappling bc they already had judo and jiu jitsu,so close the distance in your Kata, you’ll find many things, the moves might be brutal and cross the line but it’s worth it😂😂❤️oh and by the way the hand that stays on the hip is called hikite, meaning pulling hand,so whenever u pull it back u have something in it,a arm, head,it’s original purpose was to control the opponent, you guys are doing great, keep up the great work❤️
Although I don't have anything against Karate , those blocks would work maybe against an untrained civilian who's trying to fight you, but will never work against a trained fighter who practices boxing/mma your face is too wide open , too susceptible to a straight punch or front. Parrys do work maybe bringing your hand from your waist is a bad idea . But then again I do believe it's about the fighter who uses it not the martial art. Karate is a lil impractical for the modern world self defence. But again it's about the fighter 👍.
U shouldnt have let ur barber shave the forehead part at last.. The same thing happens with me. Since we have big foreheads it looks horrible for few days.
WHY YOUR KARATE BLOCKS DON'T WORK IN THE STREET. Because one can't do karate. All the kihon form has an intelligent purpose, was designed to be effective, and is effective. All people do on these videos is promote by running over to Okinnawa and mimic the more combat-oriented technique... failing to mention how much more sophistication and study it takes to do them effectively, over the Japanese styles. This very simple "monkey-see-monkey-do" approach strikes to the heart as to why any karate doesn't work, be it technique or style. Hope that helps.
The problem is that in karate, punches and kicks are PREDICTABLE and thus one can apply technics, but in real fight u CAN'T apply technics coz attacks are NOT predictable
I learnt Shotokan for more than a year during school days, I left it coz it wasn't practical in street fights. During real fights it didn't worked, now watching ur videos I understand what is the technique behind it. Thanks !
FOR MOST PEOPLE, karate does NOT work. The proof is in MMA. For karate to work, a person has to be able to generate tremendous hitting force up close. Most people cannot. And how can karate work when you practice a swing, a block, then reset? In a street fight, the swings (punches) are coming fast and furious. NO HUMAN BEING can react fast enough to block and counter without getting punched out. Even a highly skilled karate-ka like Lyoto Machida only has a mediocre record in MMA. Karate is too static and stationary. You would be better off emulating a Mike Tyson. He could stand in front of an opponent and bob and weave so fast that they couldn't hit him cleanly. Conor McGregor in his karate style of fighting couldn't hurt Floyd Mayweather. Karate doesn't move and statues can be hit.
Nice. Great points. Both hands have a role. Completely agree its not for competition fighting.
