Thank you for efficiently and effectively getting to the point without waste of time. Too many content providers think they are entertainers or comedians
The obvious advantage for me is the price. I play music in the living room on my Fire Stick, with the TV connected to a surround sound system. As such, I get better sound quality than I'd get from any Echo device on its own, so the tiny tinny speaker doesn't matter to me. So the Flex does exactly the same as an Echo Dot would, but for almost half the cost!
Just ordered a Flex and the light. They were on a significant discount. And backordered. Figured I would use it as a nightlight in the bedroom hall (routines/IFTT/etc control). Plus there will be an additional location to give home automation commands.
I use one of my 2 echoflex as a pure music caster. I had a Google chromecast audio but it will never show up in Spotify on a PC as an available speaker, but funny enough it does appear on phones and tablets ! This will repappear even if you re-setup the darn hockey puck 10 times! So basically I purchased a second one, hooked it up to my kitchen speakers (Logitech Z337 2.1), muted the microphone and now its the best ever music caster ! Thank you Amazon for the ease of setup that google totally forgot !
You have 5? How do they hear you. I mean, dont they respond to the wake word together. Confusing each other. Or does only the one closest to you respond?
You've been waiting for a non-wire version of the Dot for a very long time? I'm sure you know there's a myriad of brackets that encase an Echo Dot (v1 & v2), tuck the wires away inside its housing, and plug into a wall socket? I did buy one to test but I'm not seeing the value in these. I originally thought...bathrooms perhaps? But nah, I went with Ecobee Switch+ instead. The motion sensors are better, doesn't occupy an outlet, has a toggle on/off, and sounds about the same as Flex. The downside is it doesn't have ALL the Echo features, but I'm pretty sure Flex doesn't either. The Ecobee motion sensor triggers the lights on, plus I have a routine that starts classical Chopin at a low volume...so bathroom users can relax and enjoy some music. But the playlist quickly goes from Chopin to Tupac, so...
I agree. Maybe they can add a female USB on each device so you can piggyback them. I'm wondering if you can plug in a USB extension cable then plug the motion into that.
I wonder why more people aren't talking about the clock accessory. That's what sold me more thna the ligh or motion sensor (although I can think of some fun routines to do with those). Since people seem to tout the convenience of it in the kitchen, bathroom or workshop, the clock was a natural. I also like the fact that when you set a time the clock shows the timer countdown. For the portability, ease of use, and extras, I couldn't pass it up. The one odd thing though. The accessories have cost more then the device it self (since I go it on sale for $10).
You liked that it did not require a cable. But then you liked that you could plug a cable in. 🤪. Its a pity the light and sensor cannot be daisy chained
I'm interested in using the Echo Auto 2 indoors, but it's got a couple drawbacks. Either it is connected to your phone, and you can't use your phone audio anymore as you're in other parts of the house, or it is not connected to your phone, and then it can't respond to voice commands to turn on the lights as you enter the room. It also can't be added to a room group, so it never knows what room it is in, and it can't have settings tweaked, like verbosity.
Great for those with Amazon account who purchase, not for those who receive as a gift. If a gift, the set up is completely different. Video informative, but seemingly made for current Echo owners who do not require much help.
What about just getting the $10 Echo dot wall mount with plug. Considering the price of the flex. They make a cool little holder that hide the cord and allows you to plug your Echo in just like the flex I also bought a flex just because I want to have one of every device because I'm like that LOL
How's the speed and reliability of the motion sensor as a trigger within Alexa compared to other standards like zigbee and wifi? Does it run locally or online? If it's fast enough you could really reduce the need for expensive hubs and allow people to continue using wifi once they move to more advanced automations which rely on motion.
If it’s essentially the same size as a Dot, why is audio quality so much worse? I’d be more excited to get one if the audio quality was better. I use two of our 4 dots for white noise, and they’re perfect. But any less quality would be bad, I’ve found the plug hanging adapter brackets for my dot to be a great solution. Now if the Flex was $10-15 then I could see buying some for the motion sensors, or to put in Alexa dead zones.
This is interesting! Thank you because I was wondering. Kinda wish I knew this before I got the Alexa twins for the holidays. That's ok though, needed some experience with smart tech other than my phone lol! Learning more everyday and your videos help!
I bought this to travel with in hotel rooms. However, it needs to set up to WiFi and most hotels now don't have a password for wifi so it doesn't work :( Maybe I need a VPN?
I purchased one to see what it could do. Unfortunately it seems like we cannot change Alexa’s voice volume, the slider moves but it doesn’t work and always returns to the previous position. Has anyone else encountered this?
The problem I’ve had with motion sensors is that they are slow when on a cloud service since they have to wake up and connect to your WiFi before sending a command to activate a light or routine to save battery life. I wonder if the flex with motion sensor is faster since it is always on?
im not sure on on this flex device, but i use smartthings and the hub manages motion sensor rules locally. ive tested by unplugging cable modem and leaving router on - still works. i use all kinds of nightlight rules and motion sensors are instant to activate bulbs and smartplugs.
Just subscribed with notifications. How did it know what your Amazon account was? Does it come pre-configured to your Amazon account like the Fire tablets do (or at least used to)? When I got my Echo, I had to use the Alexa app on my phone to configure it, so I'm curious how they are side-stepping that entire process.
Google will copy it. They copied the echo speaker. Amazon were first to the smart home and smart speaker market. They created the market. So they,ll copy it
Pretty neat device! Does/Will Nest make a device like this? I’m prefer the Nest Ecosystem since I have a Google Assistant built into my Sony TV. Ready for your Arlo giveaway video here in about 35 mins!
It's supposed to but i've had problem with that actually working. I have this plugged in the hallway with the night light connected to it. When i'm talking to the echo in my room this one in the hallway will trigger as the primary device. I ended up changing the wake word for this device only and that fixed the problem.
Steve, good informative review, however, the cutting / editing was tough to watch. If the cutting occurence was once per minute or several minutes, I probably would not have noticed but there was a cut like every 4 to 8 seconds. I thought my phone was having lag or trouble connecting to my wifi. Perform a retake in lieu of editing so often. Sorry not trying to pick on you just wanted to give an honest and hopefully constructive criticism.
You can use multiple echo devices in the same home. With the Alexa app you can set the flex to a different room or to the same room as an existing dot. If in the same room, you can set the dot/flex to be the preferred speaker for music and such.
It won't recognize it as a device it can control unless it has been specifically made to work with the flex. It would possibly provide power to it, as he said it can charge a phone.
It's a standard PIR (passive infrared) sensor that reads changes in temperature. Mine sees me from across the kitchen and dining room. Maybe you should lower your thermostat.

The Echo Flex is undoubtedly one of the best and most compact Amazon Echo devices. Mediatek chip does its job well along with the added accessories
These definitely come in handy. I purchased three, two with night light, and one with motion sensor. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

That may be the case, but an Echo Dot still has a wire attached and the Echo Flex is cheaper than an Echo Dot plus the bracket
I love it. I have an echo device in every room of my house. The flex works perfectly well I'm my small hallway.
It's the best echo for routines in combination with the motion sensor. And very well integrated in my home security
I think Amazon missed the mark with this device by not putting a USB port on top to be able to combine two modules at the same time.
I agree. Maybe they can add a female USB on each device so you can piggyback them. I'm wondering if you can plug in a USB extension cable then plug the motion into that.
Sounds like version 2.0 will be amazing! 👍🏻
With a cable coming out of top, it would look supper ugly and messy. It was made for a purpose and it rocks. It is not a Swiss army knife.

I use the amazon echo flex as a ring doorbell chime
Have you tried plugging the flex into a USB hub, so that you could use both the motion and the light at the same time?
and have a big cluttery mess of cables, awesome!
You liked that it did not require a cable. But then you liked that you could plug a cable in. 🤪. Its a pity the light and sensor cannot be daisy chained
Best product in the market, hands down!
How many outlets is that thing going to block? And why can’t they just incorporate the light and the motion detector into the device itself?
I'd like to see that too (integrated unit).
It uses one outlet and doesn't block the top one.
Hope Echo Flex will come available also here in Finland!
There are some sites that will drop ship them to you.

It gets the job done. If you know what you are buying this for, you will be super impressed.
Good for bathrooms
Informative video and I like its compact size and affordable price point along with the mediatek processor.
Would that USB jack be able to operate and power via Alexa LED strips?

I agree, $25 seems pretty steep for a device with such bad audio quality.
A camera add on would make it worth it IMO
I’ve been waiting for a wire in device to replace an existing wall switch.
good tech, especially for kids. thanks for the review.
Question. When the motion sensor triggers a light. Will it shut off after a certain time by itself?

I would say that half of the functionality of an echo is indifferent to the quality of the speaker itself
