Rideshare app touting security now under fire
A rideshare company that used armed security guards as drivers, letting customers request a ride through an app just like they would Uber or Lyft, is now in hot water. The Georgia-based Black Wolf App attracted national attention, prompting the FOX 5 I-Team to look into the company's licensing.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Kerry KingBrown’s idea certainly seemed innovative: provide armed security guards as rideshare drivers and let customers request a ride through an app just like they would Uber or Lyft.
The Georgia-based Black Wolf App attracted national cable news attention earlier this month as well as a story from FOX 5.
But KingBrown’s idea is in danger - his own security license has since been terminated - because of a dispute over whether his company is really providing security services.

Speaking as a licensed security officer, I'm not surprised. State has really been cracking down people using loopholes to get around having a license. The license exam is actually really easy if you have experience. The process as a whole is a pain though. Personally I think he logic is sound as being a rideshare app. Uber and Lyfe are not licensed taxi companies and nobody has gone after them because its just a rideshare app. It's basically the same thing with drivers that carry guns and GA has constitutional carry.

I really hope he figures this licensing thing out, and makes his business model work. I would sign up to get licensing as security just to provide this service.
Also, he's targeting Veterans, Law Enforcement, etc, as drivers for his app, Not the everyday citizens who don't have training. We have the training, the skills, the deescalation of force beaten into us (Vets do, at least my era does)
Think they're mad he didn't pay the State the fees to work in our "Free" Country 😂

This is a ridiculous business model. His insurance premiums will be the first nail in the coffin(at $60 a ride you can already tell he's not properly insured), the next nail is going to be labor laws because independent contractors cannot take instructions from employers and his #1 instruction is that his drivers have to be ready to kill, and otherwise protect(those are instructions beyond driving a car in big circles). Yea, I'm thinking $350-$400/ ride would make it somewhat profitable. Nice gimmick, he got his 15 minutes.

Unless the vehicles are bulletproof having an armed driver only means the passengers might end up in the middle of a shootout. Take the case a few weeks back when the young lady was killed in a rideshare. If her driver was armed they would have targeted him first. There's really no protection in a regular vehicle. Bulletproof yes.

    • @OPEK.
      @OPEK. Рік тому +6

This aswell. If you fear for your life you shouldn’t put your protection in the hands of a stranger you hired through an app. It’s like me calling my neighbor dale because my house got broken into. Yeah he can probably do something but theres already established outlets for reporting your crime. Just like there’s established outlets for hiring armed security

    • @sminem6572

I still think its a good idea. Elderly, disabled, deaf, legally blind, kids, etc. cannot use firearms for self defense (at least effectively), and they are still entitled to protection just like everyone else. Not to mention women coming home from clubs that cannot bring firearms due to laws/club policies and bouncers searching them beforehand.

TESLA isn't a car company, it's a TECH company. .. So if this man says it's a Tech company, that's what it is. The STATE is only making this an issue because they want him to get a security LICENSE. Which he has to PAY for. Allowing the STATE to TAX him as a security company.

If he is armed he has to have a D/G. No matter if he is contract, or proprietary… He can’t open carry either if he isn’t allowed…He has to follow the process. He should have gone private executive security. And as for the tests… He should have been able to take retakes. You better know who you are working for and what you need in order to work and it’s your responsibility and accountability to make sure everything is legit.

Yo, he literally said "I can't pass the test bc it's too hard but I'm going to do it anyway." That's like saying I can't get a license to drive so I'm just going to drive or I can't get a gun permit but I'm going to get one anyway. Bro, there's a reason you need to pass the test. It's called keeping ppl who aren't up to par from doing something they don't have the aptitude to do. Makes me wonder what kind of "security" he's actually offering like someone whose going to start fights instead of protecting ppl seeing how he's already not following the law.

Its crazy how much in licensing and certfication startups and individuals have to pay. That has stopped expansions and caused many to go out of business because they end up in debt to the city, state, and country. Big business gets refunds through tax deals and we have to pay increased costs yearly.

Simple answer - become the CEO - bring a company that is licensed on board to handle the security side of the house. Them good old boys saw this as an opportunity, and got mad they didn’t think of it. I bet you 40 quarters there is someone out there now making him a lowball off for the name. So much BS in state licensing. The State and Feds always need their cut. Yes, what he did was technically illegal and yes, he did know better but c'mon the security licensing board sent the case to the AG? So Georgia doesn't have real crime to worry about? GA is no different than TX. Despite my LE credentials of 21 years, I had to spend about a grand to be "licensed" as an armed guard and personal protection person. Ridiculous.
