    Glad I found this video, now I realize my gear mesh is borked from the factory. I have one I just bought within the past month and only took out to play with it twice. I noticed at slow speeds it made a noticeable growl and loud chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp at low speeds moving at a crawl. Took it apart to clean it thinking trashed was under the motor/transmission. There was a little, but was surprised to see my spur gear was also rubbing on the bottom of the chassis. Hearing about people cutting a hole/notch there, I did the same. Noise still persisted, took motor and transmission off and held in my hand to give it a little slow speed and sure enough, the chirp-chirp-chirp was coming from the gearbox itself. Just took the cover off and I can't see any damage anywhere, but I did notice there's a large gap between the pinion and spur gear along with a lot of slack. As you demonstrated with the barely moving click looseness how it should be, mine is more like clunk, clunk because nothing tight inside the transmission. At least that's my guess as to what is making the noise. Had to sit down and research on UA-cam and I thank you for this excellent video showing a good reference. I'm guessing if I had pushed my toy hard (mostly been running on 50% setting to get used to it) and for longer periods, I'd have had a spur gear looking like yours and all chewed up or even sawed down flush. Not good! Just wanted to let you know about my situation and if I discover something other than slack is causing the noise, I'll let you know. But again, thank you and all the other RC youtubers for all you do in helping us noobs out.

      By the way, forgot to mention mine is a 4x2 Boost Senton that I just upgraded to 4x4 and so was getting used to working on it and figured I'd try and figure out what the noise was. Didn't help that the kit I received had a different driveshaft than the one in my girlfriend's 4x4 Mega. So, I had to adapt to that, it works but haven't had time to take it out because that chirp noise has been driving me crazy and want to fix that first before I test out the 4x4 it's got now. Sucks being old, had to sit down due to bad spine in my old age, haha, butt goes numb and lower back starts killing me. That was my cue to take a break. Maybe I need a rock crawler? That's probably more my speed, haha!

      I think I found the problem. Where the slipper clutch is, the shaft that runs through the spur gear, that seems bent or warped, was able to push the clutch plate thing back and then spun the shaft and you can see that clutch plate has a little wobble in it. That probably explains why the rear-most bearing (opposite end from red part of shaft) had some wear under it like it was moving. I checked that but the bearing isn't seized up, it's probably from the slight warp that's probably making the bearing slide back and forth slightly on the shaft and making the darkened wear spot area. Hmmm.

    • @Destin65
      @Destin65 3 місяці тому

      I think what I have is a possibly bad bearing. It's odd, when the assembly is out of the transmission it looks pretty straight, but the metal clutch plate still looks slightly out of round to me. I do know that there is a LOT of play fore-aft when the transmission is assembled. Now, yeah, the 4x4 driveshaft pushes back against it, but i'm sure it's still there. But the rear-most bearing literally just falls off the shaft that connects to the Diff. Very loose. Supposed to be that loose? I was wondering if the chatter/chirping was from the bearing being loose on that shaft and making a squeak/chirp sound every rotation or something.

    adjustable motor mounts are just 10000% better in every way. Not locked into stock gearing, can change out motors and pinions and spurs.

    I agree 100% about the old V2 motor mount! The pre-drilled holes were way better in my opinion! I’ve gone through 2 of the adjustable plates with no luck at all even with your advice on cleaning first (which is very smart)! I have the V2 mounts on my Granite Blx and Typhon Blx and won’t change them!

    My Senton 3S had some washers on it, and they put some weird elmers glue on the motor screws, way way too much. I got them to replace the screw under warranty, but I had to reuse the washer. I put blue vibra tite gel threadlocker on the two screws.

    the gap between gears is gear BACKLASH. There IS a measurement for that gap....but you would need a LAST WORD dial indicator to measure it.

    Is the metal spur a worthy upgrade? I noticed my plastic spur getting slightly chewed up just from dirt that makes it's way under the power module (why do they leave this open on the bottom?) I know on my crawlers people typically say to stay away from them. Of course those don't deal with nearly as much power.

    That’s not how you apply thread lock. You should apply it to both the threads inside the holes and down the screw. Then work it into the screw with your fingers!! There’s a few UA-cam videos giving examples of the different ways people apply it with clear parts so you can see this was doesn’t really do anything.
