- Crank shaft position sensor code P0335 Chevy Silverado 2001 V6 4.3 l engine. Pat located underneath the truck right in front by the lower pulley. One bolt attachment and use the shim if the vehicle is older or if there is scarring on the sensor. Part is scarred so I used the shims included with the part (Pep Boys). .010 scar + .040 shims equals the .030 minimum required setting (sensor to part). Part from Auto zone did not include shims, available online only (need 2 with older vehicle). I had a mechanic replace the sensor in the past. He did not use the shims and could not figure out why the engine light was back on after a couple of days. After doing it myself, I found he did not use the shims and the new part was scarred from contact because he did not use the shims triggering the coed P0335 once again.
Great job Sr.
I was like crazy trying to find the cpk sensor on my Chevy 4.3 v6 until I found your video.
Thanks a bunch.
Thanks! Glad my simple little video was able to help somebody! ;-)
This video helped me today locate the sensor on a 2003 Silverado 1500 4wd 4.3 L 6 cylinder. It was not shimmed and no damage appeared to be on the bad sensor. No shims were provided by the new sensor which was purchased from O'Reilly's
Have you had any issues? I bought one this evening from O'Reily's with no shims. Replacing it this weekend.
Glad it helped you! I made it for the reason that I could not find the exact truck and engine as mine even though it is very common. I was hoping to make it easy for others to find, thanks for the comment! ;-)
mrbeanz63 Hope your truck is running great still. I have the same truck as you, the only difference mine is a 99. It ran great until I put a new starter on it. Then a week later it gave me the same code as your truck, My question is did you put both shims on or just one? Thanks for the video, Awesome info. Thanks for the help!!!!
Yeah I saw videos that it was above the starter, long story short it wasn't and couldn't find it myself. Thanks for the video, very helpful
Diy video was presented on point..easy to follow and understand verbally and visually. Thank you for the info.
Thank you sir!
Nice set of mitutoyo 8" calipers. I got the same set I use at work everyday. Great video, and awesome technical advice!!!
Bro, I got a 2001 Silverado 1500 and this video helped me out.
Thanks man!
Christopher Garza Thanks man, glad to help. I had a hard time finding this exact model so I made the video even though I am not a mechanic. Happy that it has helped a few. :-)
You should do one for the camshaft too.
Christopher Garza Ha ha ha I'm not a mechanic. Just a dude that has to fix things on my truck when they go wrong. If it ever does, then I will make a video ~knock on wood~!!! :-P
Gotcha bro.
Thanks bro you helped me out quite a bit.... thanks again!!!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad it helped! ;-)
THANK YOU...THANK YOU VERY MUCH.. I have search all over the internet. You saved my truck from the the junk yard...
Glad I cold help! And thanks for the great comment! Yeah not being a mechanic myself I can do some smaller repairs but this one had me baffled. Seemed to have everything but my engine ha ha! So that is why I made this video, for guys like you and me! I found a comment that suggested the location but it was the tiniest smallest sentence ever so I'm sure many overlooked it. So I felt compelled to make the video and disclose the location ha ha ha!
Sorry guys, I am not a professional mechanic. I just had to figure this one out to get my truck running. After I fixed it I figured I would make the video to show others where the sensor was on this model as there was no video available that I found on yt. Sorry guys but I'm not a question and answer guy, just a guy who had to get my truck running again. :-P
Well MrBeanz you got yourself another follower. We have pretty much the same truck, mine is a 2004 4.3 5 speed. Good ol truck and it's had a rough life. I had a 0335 code pulled and the guys at Oriellys sold a a camshaft sensor, go figure. It was 840pm and I needed to get home to get it back running. I'm taking the sensor back today, getting them to pull the code again and get the right one. I'm gonna ask about them shims and if they don't offer one with the shims, I'm just getting the money back and head elsewhere.
Anytime you experience no spark or erratic running, replace the CPS. Replace it as maintenance and the cam sensor. Replace sensors as routine to prevent trouble.
For the camshaft sensor you may as well just swap out the distributor assembly, you will have to eventually anyway as it’s made of plastic
Thanks a million. Ur the man Mr. Beanz
Yup, I love dial instruments. I also have a digital set that I don't really like as much. I hate having to reset and zero when the dial is very visible at all times when it comes to zeroing out. Plus it keeps the senses sharp. I thought the technical advice was really important seeking I only saw the shim info covered in one other video during my search and not real clear. So I put it out there again hoping it helps ;-)
I'm an analog guy too. I don't think digitals as accurate
This was a HUGE help! Thanks
thank you for sharing this information. It is very helpful.
Great job. Keep up with the repair videos
Thanks 👍
🤣 that intro was golden. This helped a lot thank you
Thank you! ;-)
She looks like one that likes to play in the mud explains her dirty crank
Jk lol
Your my hero man!!! I had heard the over time an engine can develop "crank walk" I had no clue about the spacers but your video made perfect sense. Great job showing where it's located too. I almost started to take off the starter motor haha. Thank You!!
Hahahahahahahaha, I wonder where would they stick the " Crank Shaft Position Sensor "??? Maybe on the Hood? Hmmmm, I wonder if they make " Crack Head Position Sensor "??? Maybe they can stick that in my neighborhood! LMFAO !!!
thank you for the info i have the same truck yours looks better than mine but thanks going to change part had a hard time with the location thanks man.
They tell you in the instruction what the minimum spacing to be 0.030, but do they mention a maximum ? If I had 2 shims I would be tempted to just install both of them to save taking it out again
Also, could the front main bearing wear enough that it allows the crankshaft to contact the sensor ?
Did you have to "relearn" the sensor with a code reader?
Hi, what's the position of the cables from the crankshaft I have a Chevy like yours but in mines the cables are green, blue and white and all the other chevys are purple, white and green my censor connecting broke and I don't know what's the correct position to each cable
I just hope you know that is not the crankshaft position sensor, that is just the crank sensor. The crankshaft position sensor is in the distributor under the cap
David Nolan
No, that is the crankshaft position sensor. The thing in the distributor is the camshaft position sensor. See this sensor in this video reads the crankshaft right? The distributor is driven off the camshaft. See how that works? Common sense is pretty neat isn't it.
You have no idea what you're talking about smh.Just shut up
@@marloncoley1810 I looked it up because I have the same motor and thats not what its called. The p0335 under the distributor cap. And when I pulled up the manual that shows it under the cap as well. So before you start telling people that they are wrong make sure Google isn't wrong first
@@maglight2006 my bad
My bad
Was it stalling in reverse gear and randomly that's what my 97 4.3 is doing I could use an answer with this problem I've replaced a few other parts that needed to be replaced but now I'm just stuck and don't know what to look at or test next
Is it the same sensor for a 2000 4.3 manual as for an automatic 5.3?
I just buy one for my 4.3L I it looks pretty much the same as the part for the 5.7L but I'm not sure if the 5.3L uses the same part or it's different, but the location must be pretty equal
That pulley is called a Crank Pulley.
May I ask what symptom was your truck showing that made you replace it? Was your truck shutting off? felt like it was out of fuel then die?
what made you replace it?
+W Sayers Truck would not start. I thought it might be the fuel pump again but it was this sensor.
I have a 2001 5.3 Chevy that I just replaced the water pump and one coil pack on a number 7 because it was a misfire and now the truck has a miss in is backfiring I'm wondering can the camshaft sensor be a big cause of it the truck has 277,000 plus miles can't figure it out can you help
So I order my crankshaft sensor from Pepboys part#CSS123 and it has scrape marks on it from somebody else installing it w/o shims. WTF I paid for a NEW sensor.
For a serious note though the EGR have a bad habit of going bad as well on the 4.3
NHTSA Chevrolet Silverado 2001 investigation PE06016 describes (the) failure with words which are efficient when working with Office Orifice or talking to techies
Is this why my truck hesitates to start ?
This was helpful but how do you get your hands on it.
Indeed is in a tough spot, I put mine up on ramps and reach up from underneath
good-Job
Thanks! :-)
Thanks!
What size is that bolt holding it in place ??
He said 5/16”
Well it be the same in a 2003 Chevy Silverado 4.3l?
Francisco Flores Get a Actron CP9690 code tester. It checks live, graphing, record, emissions test, oxygen sensor test, codes, transmission code test, ABS, SRS, and MORE! EBAY has it! Get a 12 volt battery adaptor from Amazon.
@@rexanderson5458 stfu idiot that is not what he asked
@@marloncoley1810 The CP9680 or CP9690 has code-connect to diagnose codes. It shows the most-likely causes of codes for that car. It's updatable using a USB cable. Graphing can show a speed-sensor or an oxygen sensor fault. It can show a CTS accuracy. It can show an 02 sensor acting-up. Emissions- readiness test shows if systems are normal or abnormal. It shows fuel trims. The screen is large and well-lit. EBAY has it.
I just searched for 4.3 l v6 gmc cps because I have a 2000 gmc envoy or jimmy envoy but apparently its not that common of vehicle
Search for 4.3 litre vortec info
At what millage did this part fail on your truck?
I will say at about 165,000....
@@mrbeanz63 oh, I am a 215,000 so I bought one
Ha ha ha!
@walt krindlpleth I am at 220,000 now. so probably 210,000 when it stated dying. the first thing I would change out is the crank shaft sensor with an OEM crank shaft sensor and buy 3 or 4 shims. consider taking it to the dealership and having them install it. I installed 2 CSS. It still shutdown, so finally had to go to the dealership. they worked on it for 3 days and got it running like new $515 dollar including the part, labor, a $100 diagnostic fee. Much cheaper in the long run than buying $1000 worth of parts, or buying a a new engine.
@@SuperBullyone what did they end up replacing ?
This right here yeah. Got boy is a situation of a dirty crank would she turn over lol just yanking your chain
I have no start it just cranks over but wont start I bought a new sensor it did come with any shims
Did it fix your problem
Same thing for a 2003 Silverado 4.3?
+Kevin Velazquez Sorry man I wouldn't know as I am not a mechanic. I only made this video because I could not find the info on any other truck like mine and figured I would share with those that were in the same boat as me when I had to fix my 2001.
+mrbeanz63 i actually found where it was located and it happened to be the same, thanks for the feedback though! Great vid
+Kevin Velazquez Thanks , that will come in handy as info for all and in the future! ;-)
My papa told me with that crank where out flipping over use the other side I love be from Tennessee jk no more jokes
Wow, we got a commenter ha ha ha!
Its called the crankahaft pully
FYI GUYS. on the 07 silverado 1500 classic 4.3l. There is also a crankshaft sensor behind the starter
It's called a harmonic balancer the one you keep calling the main pulley harmonic balancer
I have exact same truck but mine has the small back doors
Dude... informative, but u talking to folks like we are in Pre-K ....
It was made that way for a reason. For others like me that aren't mechanics that practice the lingo. I did not see any other video with this exact info so I made one for the simple man like myself. I've watched plenty others that speak too technical for me so talking to Pre K was the idea. Must work cause it's got plenty of views! Hmm, no videos in your profile, you should make one for the more mature audience ha ha!
+James Marshall Mine was back firing some before it went out. Then one morning it would not start. I did have an error code though and check engine light went on.
Help me please
