All in good fun. I was surprised though that Pat didn't recognise a national player. It just goes to show badminton is really a less popular sport in the UK. I may be wrong though.

Hi Badminton Insight! After watching some of your videos for q few days already, I think I'm going to play badminton again after more than 20 years of not playing it competitively. Heaps of credit to Pat. He took the gag really well.
More importantly in my book, as a good 'intermediate' he was prepared to play a beginner that he didn't know. Too many club players forget their roots and don't want to play with or against beginners.

That is absolutely correct! Some guys I play with usually do not like to play with beginners and I find that awful. Why can't they just try to give some advice to them instead of being arrogant? But then again, it is not their responsibility to teach I guess :D

Amazing, I was smiling while watching. A story: I help to coach beginners at a badminton leisure school in Porto, Portugal. We had this blonde foreign guy once coming for our training sessions. As I always do, I play a bit with beginners to measure their skill and fit them with same level players. I start playing with him with a plastic shuttle and in a few rounds, I noticed it was worth it to switch to feathers. 15 minutes later I was dripping sweat like I was in a competitive game. I paused for breathing and ask "So, you have played before, where?" His answer "Oh in the Czech Republic, I was in the youth national team." :D Shout out there for Jan!

If that was me, it would really be an honor to play with an international pro player. ^^,
Hope someone could visit the Philippines and play with me one day. ^^,

Our club occasionally had international players (this was a few years ago) and these guys turned up to play. So I was paired up with one of them in a mixed doubles. I introduced myself to my partner and vice versa, and casually asked if he had played much before, to which he replied "yes, a little bit" and I thought to myself "oh no, we're gonna get slaughtered" because our opponents were quite the strongest pair in the club. As time went on, however, it became apparent that my partner not only had played quite a lot, but was actually a fantastic player. I will never forget the moment I discovered he was none other than Rashid Sidek, one of the famous badminton brothers, and realised I was probably the only partner he had had who questioned his playing ability!

this could be an opportunity for long series?! Like, you pretend to be a beginner for 15minutes, if the person is good sport offer to coach them (I don't even know if you do that). That'd give an idea for range of players to experience somewhat what a coaching session could bring them and hopefully entice a lot more people to try to become better at the game :) just an idea :D keep up the good work

This is a fun video. I could use such a coach XD. I don't play badminton in a club but I used to join certain competitions at school for fun and I won more matches than I thought against real badminton players. It's also because I play tennis and I have a very unorthodox way of serving and playing (I'm not hitting overhead serves, just weird technique) and I was quite quick. it's such a fun sport and very underrated.
