    **Read The Description**
    Lava flow at Kilauea volcano Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
    Just a few small lava flow breakouts at night.
    I know some people wish these clips would go longer but, 99.99% of the time excessive heat makes me have to move.
    There's one clip at the end that shows the entire breakout.
    The video is steady. The movement you see is an illusion created by the strong heat shimmer/waves.
    This particular night the heat didn't dissipate like usual.
    Watch full screen and look for the intricate little changes in the flows.
    61g lava flow.
    Thanks for subscribing and watching. Many more videos to come.
    Be patient. What I do isn't always easy.
    My usual warning.
    Do not attempt to do what I do.
    I have 26 years of experience and I know what I'm doing out there.
    So many things can go wrong for those who don't understand or can't recognize the dangers of a volcanic eruption.
    Stay away and watch my videos instead.
    Having said my usual warning, let me add that this flow is accessible via hikes of at least 8-9 miles round trip.
    Expect large crowds of people. Be sure to carry at least 3 liters of water per person.
    Always use extreme caution at the sea cliffs and never walk out onto new land as it could easily collapse into the ocean taking you with it.
    As the bench grows the immediate sea cliff will be vulnerable to collapse also.
    I highly recommend you watch this HVNP safety video on safety at ocean entries.
    lavapix.com/#/p...
    Also, its best not to breath if you find yourself engulfed in the steam plume. If you think you will be in it often, be sure to wear a respirator or at the very least cover your mouth and nose with a shirt or similar when breathing.
    Prints from my adventures can be purchased on my website lavapix.com.
    Or locally at Krazy About Kona in the Kona Inn Shopping Village, Kailua Kona, HI.

    I could watch this video for hours. It's so relaxing... The little glassy pops in the beginning sound like lazy pop rocks and it reminds me of a nice low and slow morning breakfast skillet. Your videos always bring peace into my life - thanks so much for making them

    I love this it's the first time I've really heard what lava sounds like, but it's exactly what I thought it would, like liquid fire. It's very relaxing.

    Such a wonderful combination of sounds. To me its a symphony of crackling sapwood fire with the sound of rain, frying bacon ‘n eggs, car tires over a gravel road plus the occasional resonant peeling away of thin strips of wood from a rough split dry cedar log. Its heavenly!

    What causes those "strings" in the lava at 2:24? They seem too delicate to exist in such intense heat, yet there they are.

    • @lavapix
      @lavapix  5 років тому +1

      They are cooling surface lava. The small spot gets caught on the upper part of the small lava tube opening and gets stretched out into long fine strands of as it drifts along the surface. Most tear apart and drift away while some remain after the tube seals up. They're really great to watch. Thanks for watching...

    Mike, your videos are amazing, Thank You very much. This might seem like a silly question, but how close was the D800 to the flow? Yes, watching the lave flow is mesmerizing!

    • @lavapix
      @lavapix  7 років тому +5

      Its Bryan but, that's okay. I get names wrong often :-) Thanks on the videos. During this video the D800 and I were between 5' and 10' from the lava. Most was shot with my Nikon 180 mm. Distance varied due to heat and surrounding breakouts. Often heat from a flow not seen in the video causes me to cut the clip short and move. Thanks for watching...

      You were here during the one long stretch of lava only being way up in the boonies. Glad you enjoyed the trip. If no lava to hike to in 2018 try a doors off heli tour. Thanks for watching...
