    I've been writing for 15 years now. I'm three lessons into Dan Brown's Masterclass, and I've already learned things that are improving my writing.

    Dan Brown's class is definitely worth it. James Patterson's class sucks don't bother with it. I tried both. Dan Brown's is highly beneficial. Whereas James Patterson's was a waste of time. I respect both writers but James Patterson's class was the same stuff you hear everywhere else - vague advice to "ratchet up the tension" etcetera.

      Adrian N i agree, James Patterson is one of my favorite writers but his class felt like a freshman uni lecture. Its like he didnt really have anything to say but kept talking. I was very disappointed.

    Leaving a review for anyone else who isn't convinced - Dan Brown's class is 100% worth it for me. If not for the stupid Masterclass app that's so inconvenient to use, I would have finished all his lessons in one sitting. Tons of practical, straightforward advice for writers, many of which I've never heard before but make so much sense. I'm not a thriller writer but I've gained so much insight.
    Neil Gaiman, on the other hand.. .love that man to death, but his lessons are 80% fluff, to me.

    Dan brown is my favorite writing instructor on masterclass and I've watched margaret atwood, neil gaiman, Judy blume, and david sedaris so far. His class was practical and in depth from the very first episode. He gives insight to how he creates thrillers (but can be applied to any genre of book) without fluff or the basic generic wiki stuff that you can find online. He also encourages incorporation of your personal interests and experiences into your writing. This guy doesnt stammer at all and was phenomenal at presentation. As much as I loved margaret Atwood's smile and neil gaiman's voice, this class was honestly the most beneficial writing class I took on masterclass.

    Hey.. thanks for the review .. I'm concerned about the language level he uses on the Masterclass.. I'm not a native English Speaker and I'm afraid of finding it difficult to understand.. well, I understood all what you've said in the video.. but Writers tend to use fancy words because its part of the beauty of Writing, and there are so many fancy words i never read or heard in my life .. so, what do u think?
    And do you recommend any other class? Mainly for fantasy Writing or even basic novel build up..

    • @LouisPetrides
      @LouisPetrides  5 років тому +2

      Honestly, probably not if you don't have a firm grasp of the English language. Yes if you are junior high and above. -- It's pretty basic and easy to understand, and you can always pause - look up the definition - rewind - play. etc

    What if someone's style doesn't necessarily revolve around "thriller" or "Heroes & Villains", can this Masterclass be that much of a help? E.g. Notes from the Underground, In the Café of Lost Youth, etc.

    Hey, Louis, at 5:43 there is this comment posted by somebody that other courses are more nuanced compared to Dan Brown's class. What's that about? Do you mind sharing what that feedback was? I'm interested in the course and am concerned that that comment is a potential red flag...

    • @LouisPetrides
      @LouisPetrides  5 років тому +3

      Yes i see. Basically Dan Brown doesn't BS people and gets straight to the point on exactly what needs to be done for that specific topic. Nothing to be concerned about. Best of luck.

    It is one of the better classes in the series. They are all worth the money for the material, but he speaks well to the point that you're not dying for him to get up and do something else. It is novel based, but it works for script writing as well.

    • @LouisPetrides
