The buzzing sound you hear inside this dragline is not a generator. It's one or more transformers. And the 2 bars on the back of this dragline are not part of the structure. They are rails for an overhead crane. There are 2 big doors that open on the back of the machine to let the crane in and out of the machinery house for repairing or changing out big parts. The small crane over the left outboard propel machinery is for much lighter items, such as oil and grease barrels.
100% Correct!
Back in 2011 during the fall my welding class in Eau Claire, WI took a tour of Bucyrus-Eire which was just bought out by Caterpillar a few years ago. Very large facility they have down there. All of their iron workers they have, go through their own proprietary school for training on what they do. If I recall the thinnest thickness of steel they work with is about 1".
I just worked on one of these in Colorado. Replaced the intermediate, second intermediate gearing, second intermediate brass and left side propel t frame. Thats the mechanism on the outside that moves the dragline on the shoe
I remember when they moved a 1450 back home from one mine to another. They walked it out onto a barge and floated it down the Green River to a cut the new mine had dug out of the river bank. At that cut, they sank the barge and walked the 1450 off of it.
At 2:06 there are some dents visible in the flanges at the bottom of the fairlead assembly. There is sure to be an interesting story behind that one.
This particular machine is a stone's throw away from my house. I used to be able to watch it work out my bedroom window before the pit gradually moved farther east. I even remember when they walked this machine about 5 miles from right next to its' good friend the 1150. Anyway, I always wanted to know what year this is.
nofxfan125 it might be late but the 1550w also known as big Geordie
Good stuff mate - cheers for posting
wow now that's a cool dragline
Hey PA what model Bucyrus-Erie was there only one made?
Amazing, the age and price. I love this stuff heavy machinery.
That's a impressive size machine! and thnx for listing the weight of the machine to.
Yeah it is
The same weight basically took us to the moon (Saturn V weighed about 6,000,000lbs), insane when thought of in those terms (granted like 85% of that weight was in fuel) but still, one of these flying!? - Crazy
Great Video!
Thank You!
@LawnWolf Off the top of my head one was the 300-D
In reply to LawnWolf's question: The only dragline erected by Bucyrus Erie that on one was erected was the biggest dragline ever erected, which is the 220 cubic yard Model 4250, erected in Ohio, but has long ago been scrapped.
Transformer not generator. Tub not ring
It's big! Always try to make my vids very informative, thats my goal!
