I was using waterproof mascara for years in order to maintain a good curl.. however over time i noticed my lashes were less full and less long and just didnt curl the same. I found out that using waterproof mascara can be drying/ damaging to your lashes over time. I switched to regular mascara for daily use and have seen a HUGE improvement in my lashes. I will use waterproof for special occasions but not everyday anymore. It is really nice to be able to wash it off gently at the end of the day. I also find I really dont mind a more subtle curl since I have hooded eyes and my focus is mostly getting length and intensity at the outer corner anyway, making my eyes more wide and sexy that way, not bumping my lashes into my upper lid and making that area seem smaller. Thanks for the video - I will use the awesome tip of the taupe shadow ❤ and that is a great tight-lining technique. Just thought Id offer this bit of personal experience.
@@carlacorsini7766 I agree I will use regular mascara then top it with waterproof if I'm havimg watery eyes or a long day & need my lashes to hold up.a bit longer. I also use coconut oil in my lashes & leave on overnight for conditioning benefits
Not sure if anyone has tried this, it's also quite sustainable. Every time when my old mascara dries out, I would use it to apply to my lashes and create the shape and curve I want, and create that foundation really quickly. Then I extend it with my new mascara, which would have too much moisture to create that base to extend, it works for me for many years, and more sustainable and easy!
That’s a great suggestion! Thank you for sharing 🫶 I really hold on to mascaras for this reason. I feel like there is always more mascara than you think! X
Love all the discussions about old and new mascara brushes 😂❤ I thought I was the only one. I'm leaning more to the plastic bristle cone shaped ones vs the big brushes I've used for 55 yrs ( give or take a decade) 😂
First video I have ever watched from this channel and loved everything about it. So impressed that I just became your newest subscriber! Shared all of the pertinent excellent honest information without dragging it out by babbling and filmed in a way that viewers can actually see what you are doing. Awesome. That’s so kind of you! Lovely to have you Shannon 💕 I’ve taken a note of your kind words. Every comment like this helps me in the future so thank you xx
Thank you for sharing! You’re beautiful! I love L’Oréal Voluminous lash primer and Mascara. I have dark hair and I use the brown/black mascara and my lashes look long, lush, and youthful. Happy Holidays to everyone! 🤗 🌲 ⛄️
Now, this is the first time that I have watched a video where someone has suggested using TWO mascara, one for volume and one for length. Also, I've never heard that if lashes are not fully dry, they won't curve.
You should try it and let me know what you think! Yes 🙌 they need to be fully dry. It sounds odd but if there’s a little bit of moisturiser on them or spray they won’t curl as much xx
I have always used two mascaras. First by accident, and then on purpose, lol my first mascara happen to be way too wet and clumpy so I pulled out another mascara that was a dryer version and cleaned it up before it dried came out great but I still want my lashes longer, lol.
Jaclyn Hill has a video on this - from about 3 years ago. She worked at MAC. 2. Using a mascara primer also works. 3. So does powdering your lashes btwn coats. 4. Lash stacking, wig stacking and mascara stacking aren’t new ideas. Old Drag makeup tricks.
Just clamping and holding the curler for 30 seconds does nothing for my lashes to encourage them to curl. I find if I pump my eyelash curler several times I will get a great and lasting curl. But I stopped using waterproof mascara as no matter how thoroughly I cleaned my eyes after removing the mascara I was getting milia around my eyes. Switching to regular wash off mascara ended that problem.
I recently got a heated eyelash curler. After a few weeks my lashes looked better. They are looking the best ever now and I'm in my 60s. I think the warm curler is less damaging than the old curler. Not sure but I'm very pleased with a slightly better lash look than ever before.
This was really informative. I always noticed in advertising that there was some eyeshadow color around the eyelashes. Glad to know it's taupe and I'm glad you pointed out dusting your eyelashes with a powder, because mine are so oily and my mascara runs.
I have very oily skin, including eye lids, even though I'm in my 50s. I bought a setting powder a few years ago that's specifically for the eye area, I think it's elf, and it's the only thing that's prevented my mascara and liner from running and smudging.
@@KatarinaS. Thanks for letting us know. I even tried applying waterproof mascaras in the past without setting powder and my mascara always ran, but I will try this setting powder hack to see what happens.
For the longest time my holy grail mascara was "Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions" in rich black. It's a great tubing mascara! Unfortunately, it's only downfall is that it can become flaky and sometimes easily smears. But man, the length and definition is to die for!!! Well, just recently I discovered that ELF came out with a dupe version! And it's freaking fantastic! It's called "ELF Lash Xtndr" and I get it in pitch black. I would happily live the rest of my life with this being my one and only mascara, lol! And with it being so cheap, and available at most drugstores, I recommend everyone try it at least once! You won't be disappointed! (And I promise, I don't work for ELF! 😂)
White mascara is good also. Use it from root to tip and the take black or brown mascara and just do the tios of your lashes it makes your eyes look so big and dreamy. Try it you wont be disappointed.
Tightlining has changed my eyelash game! I have curly, blond invisible lashes. I have to "straighten" them by doing the wiggle application of my mascara on the top of the lashes first. My holly grail for mascara is L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Tubing 2 Step Mascara, Smudgeproof.
I love the L’Oréal tube mascara. I apply the white conditioner on that comes in the tube, then flip to the other side and apply the mascara itself. The white conditioner also works with the coloured mascara that L’ Oreal makes. The mascara doesn’t flake and stays put and it comes off with a warm damp facecloth. This mascara doesn’t transfer either. My tip too is I use the L’Oreal dark green mascara with a fine makeup brush. I dip the fine brush into the tube to get maraca on the brush and use it to line the lashes. It makes a stronge liner.
I just started using that brand (non-waterproof version) a week ago. It's a game changer for me when it comes to mascara. I've been using the same mascara for years (Maybelline Lash Sensational) because I like the curved wand and I start with a lash primer first (Loreal Voluminous Base) they both were good. BUT after trying the Essence Lash Princess for the past few days, unless something changes as I continue to use it, this will be my new go to.
Love the tight line and shadow tip, that in itself (but a bit darker for non-blondes) is an awesome look with dyed or natural lashes. The Elsie the cow look mystifies me. I always love Clinique and Estee waterproof mascara, Clinique had the first “swimmers mascara” back in the day. First time here and I love your vibe and the comments you’ve made. BTW wish I had a dollar for every time I saw someone use a safety pin to separate his/her lashes! Not safe but you use what you have.
Could you please tell us all the makeup you are wearing. Especially the foundation, concealer etc. to get the base you have. I think you are wearing my perfect shades! Thanks so much. Also any recommendations for brown mascaras?
I've been applying my mascara & liner like this for decades, all the steps Amy suggests, only difference is I apply mascara right into the roots first then the tips, but I will try it this way tomorrow. I love thick, heavy lashes!!!
It's an old, ancient modeling trick. We used to dab baby power on our eyelashes before applying mascara to give our eyes that thick long lashy look. That's all it is. When she puts powder on her lashes, she is already thickening the propensity for volume. Sometimes we would apply mascara thinly, then apply baby powder gently, then reapply the mascara for really thick, thick lashes. I like the more "natural" look with just the one application of mascara to powder coated eyelashes.
I love Big Poppa Mascara from Wet n Wild. About $5.00 and it’s amazing for thick volume, length , a big brush and lasts a long time. Can buy almost any drugstore or Walmart. I stumbled on it looking for a mascara that wasn’t expensive. I also love L’Oréal Voluminous carbon black or black. Also have used Maybelline Sky High and loved it too. Ester Lauder also has a “Cara” I love Double Wear Smudge proof but I hate paying the price.
I’ve used maybelline lash sensational sky high for a while but I JUST fell in love with Loreal Panorama. I used to use another lengthening mascara (don’t remember what but I’m sure it was maybelline) coupled with the Falsies mascara. Going to try the Panorama with the Loreal Telescopic and see how I like that.
gotta try the eyeshadow trick! my lashes are still long but not as thick as they once were and i'm trying to stay away from lash boosters with prostaglandin analog. right now i'm loving Milk mascara (from sephora) for volume and beautycounter's lengthening mascara
Yess 🙌 do it and let me know how you get on! Same! I’ve never really been into those lash serums. Not sure my eyes like them as they are so sensitive. Ooo I’ve never tried those mascaras! I’ll have to try them out (noted) xx
Recently found ILIA mascara and really like it!!! I also do the volumizing first followed by lengthening, but then I add a coat of waterproof because I wear contacts & have watery eyes. Dusting with powder first & doing a shadow liner is new to me! I'll have to try that next time! Thanks for the tips!
I agree, do the tips of your lashes first. But I would take the tip of the brush,(after cleaning the clumps off a little), and run it along the tips of your lashes. This gets every last tip. If you don't do the tips first and start at the middle or the roots, all of those tips get lost and will not show. Because your lashes will clump together a little lower down. So take the tip of the mascara brush and run it along the tips of your lashes before applying any other mascara.
You're so adorable! LOL.. I'm older so I can say that. Great tips, as I don't wear makeup very often anymore, but I did need tips for my lashes, so thank you!🥰
This is great to know. Funny, but I recently decided to invent my own makeup routine because I thought the makeup artists were getting it all wrong for people like me. Turns out I've been doing *exactly* what you show here--with one exception. I had a lash curler years ago and got rid of it, because it chopped my lashes off! I don't know why that happened because I didn't use the curler that much. The shield was still in place, but for some reason the curler didn't hit right or something. I'm still afraid to try them again.
Ahhh I completely understand the anxiety with lash curlers. The MAC lash curlers are amazing and have never failed me. You have to be gentle at first and then apply pressure once you are happy with the position 💕
I have coarse lashes and I haven't found that heating my lashes makes them curlier nor does the curl last longer. Only WP mascaras will hold my coarse lashes curled. Maybelline The Rocket WP was my favorite. Every Summer, I buy 4x Catrice Glam & Doll Volume Mascara Waterproof when we drive to southern Germany (from Denmark) so I have more than enough for a whole year. I use a clean mascara wand from an old wet'n'wild mascara to separate my lashes.
I put castor oil on my eyelids at night and then mascara slides off the next day- even after washing it off. I never thought of applying some powder first. Thank you!
Yes @elizabethwinsauer3236 !!!! That was my holy grail mascara for a while until I just discovered there's a dupe for it by ELF! Exact same formula, packaging is nearly the same as well, it's called E.L.F. "Lash Xtndr" mascara. Seriously, check it out! No more paying $20 a tube for Thrive's version!
Clinique makes waterproof mascara you can remove with just warm water. Yes, I know. Ridiculous but true. It's funny because when removing, it forms tiny clumps like when you use a rubber on paper. And it lasts an entire day 🤩Once I slept with it and it still looked perfect in the morning. I hope they will never discontinue it
I’ve been using this for years it’s amazing and buildable. I leave it on every night and take it off in the shower the next morning. Or not and apply over it. The brush is amazing for older eyes as it is small and not like a toilet brush. It does the job perfectly.
I have tried so many mascaras over 45 years and my favourite ones are by L’Oreal. I have tried the Two Faced, Dior and MAC but always go back to L’Oreal. Currently using the Panorama waterproof in very black. I’ve tried two mascaras and do love doing that as well but am currently not. Two different formulas can work really well. Love pairing the volume with the lengthening for the best results. I have always worn waterproof because I have dry eyes and allergies so they water a lot. Yes, I do also find the non-waterproof mascara to lose its hold as well. Years ago I found waterproof formulas drying for my lashes; however there are some really great formulas today and I have not had this issue for many years now. I am so fair so mascara has always been a makeup bag staple. ❤️
@@SleeplessinOC yes, the one I currently using,L’Oreal Panorama waterproof, the MACStack waterproof and Dior Show waterproof are few great ones that I find are not drying. There is one L’Oreal one that I am unable to find anymore that was truly the best for me was the Butterfly Lash out waterproof. That brush really helped to build my lashes, didn’t flake or clump and was not drying. ✨🤍✨😊 If you’re having issues with dry eyes try using Systane eye gel drops a couple of times a day. Before bed they do wonders. I have ‘dry eyes’ and find using the gel drops helps a lot; otherwise my eyes water constantly.😊
I use a eyelash primer Blow dry on cool Use a regular playing card i put the card o. The lash line and use thrive mascara let dry then use a waterproof mascara
My lashes stick straight out--so my trick is to pump the eyelash curler 20 times, then hold it for 20 seconds afterward. Then, I apply a THIN coat of Maybelline Sky High to my lashes, close my eyes, and "set" them with a hairdryer on cool for about 10 seconds. Then, I go in with It Cosmetics Super Hero mascara to thicken and lengthen them. Then repeat with the hairdryer. Works like magic!
Now never be afraid to use waterproof mascara... At night load them up with Vaseline.. Leave it on and go do something for a minute or two... Add a bit more and start to remove the mascara...it will come right off plus Vaseline will soften your eye area 👍
I have to try it with eyeshadow close to the lashes, I've only tried tightlining. Smart with two different mascaras. I have to try it out. And I love the color of your lipstick, will you reveal the color and brand? 💄🙏🏼
@@mrs.charlotte yes definitely try it out and let me know how you get on! You have to be quite gentle with applying it so it’s not too heavy and noticeable 👌 I know it seems a bit extra to have two different mascaras but it does work! Yea of course - I have linked it in my description box for you ☺️💕
I use L'Oreal Carbon black for fullness and L'Oreal Telescopic for length. I also do waterproof. And if I want bulletproof lashes for like a wedding...somewhere I may cry.....I seal it all in with L'Oreal Tubing Mascara on top. Those lashes ain't going NOWHERE lol!
Wow. All this time, I thought tightlining meant *in the waterline* under the lashline. 😮 And they were all irritating my eyes. Will try next time. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment! Lovely to have you join the channel 💕 I have just linked the brush I used in the description box (it’s £5 and really great) xx
Do you have any mascara tips for people with very oily skin? I always end up with dark circles under my eyes and on my eyelids no matter what kind of mascara I use!
I love FiberExtend mascara by Senegence, also their waterproof formula. Full disclosure, I am a distributor for them as well. Before that I had tried several drugstore brands and a few other ones as well, none of them gave me the results I get with Senegence mascaras.
Tea Spill: Essense Eyelash Primer, Let dry completely, then Lorac PRO Fiber Plus. HANDS DOWN nothing has beaten it in 10 years. It adds superior Length & Volume to every lash, with out looking like spider eyes. I have tried at least 50 + mascaras in the last couple of years. I'm always disappointed and say Meh..those are not very good. And back to my Holy Grail. It truly has Fibers in it. YES, it does dry out quickly. Any Mascara with a Fiber is going to get dry quickly. The mascara absorbs into the Fibers. I just add a Drop or 2 of Contact solution and it is revived right back. I wear contacts and never have an issue with it flaking.
I have used waterproof mascara for years and years. And Neutrogena makeup remover hydrate towels. No issues. If I didn't use water proof mascara I'd be walking around with racoon eyes every single day.
I need a mascara that stays put in all circumstances. So waterproof. But not the smudging kind. Currently liking MAC Stack. Esthetically pleasing design of the packaging won't hurt (could never buy Charlotte Tilbury, the look of the brand just doesn't do it for me) Never thought of using two mascaras. But I like to keep it looking not like I have false lashes on, so a few strokes and I'm a happy camper. Hold the lash curler for THIRTY seconds, wow! I do speedcurling with my three seconds per eye lol! Have had not much luck finding a remover I was truly pleased with, until I found the one by One Two Free. Found my waterproof mascara remover holy grail! ✌️
I would always use waterproof mascara, but I can't get it in a Brown/Black. I find black mascara is a bit much for me. ANy suggestions? I am fortunate that I have quite long eyelashes, and I really love how mascara makes them pop.
They really need to make waterproof brown mascara! I would suggest getting a good quality lashes curler. I have seen some people spray setting spray on there spoolie to make it waterproof - you could try that?? 💕

The tight lining makes such a difference. Armani Eyes to Kill gives beautiful, long fluffy lashes (my fave for many years).
Yes it really does!! Especially if you ever wear false lashes aswell. Ooo thank you, I will definitely take a look 👀 💕
My favorite has long been waterproof Clump Crusher in the bright green container.
Oo I’ll check it out thank you xxx
Charlottel Tilbury mascara. Its perfect!
I love the burgundy one xx
Recently found ILIA mascara and really like it!!! I also do the volumizing first followed by lengthening, but then I add a coat of waterproof because I wear contacts & have watery eyes. Dusting with powder first & doing a shadow liner is new to me! I'll have to try that next time! Thanks for the tips!
Oo I’ll check it out thank you xxx
I agree, do the tips of your lashes first. But I would take the tip of the brush,(after cleaning the clumps off a little), and run it along the tips of your lashes. This gets every last tip. If you don't do the tips first and start at the middle or the roots, all of those tips get lost and will not show. Because your lashes will clump together a little lower down. So take the tip of the mascara brush and run it along the tips of your lashes before applying any other mascara.
Darling heart I have no lashes where I can mess with the tips. They aren't there! Sounds good if you have visible lashes though
Thank you, lovely suggestions 😊
I have coarse lashes and I haven't found that heating my lashes makes them curlier nor does the curl last longer. Only WP mascaras will hold my coarse lashes curled. Maybelline The Rocket WP was my favorite. Every Summer, I buy 4x Catrice Glam & Doll Volume Mascara Waterproof when we drive to southern Germany (from Denmark) so I have more than enough for a whole year. I use a clean mascara wand from an old wet'n'wild mascara to separate my lashes.
Ooo ok that’s interesting!
I like tubing masacara... Loreal with burgundy on one end and white on the other .
Ooo nice! I’ll check it out thank you xxx
I put castor oil on my eyelids at night and then mascara slides off the next day- even after washing it off. I never thought of applying some powder first. Thank you!
No problem! I really hope it helps 🫶✨
Holy Grail Mascara… Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash™ Extensions Mascara in Crystal Brown
Ooo I’ll have to check that one out thank you xx
Yes @elizabethwinsauer3236 !!!!
That was my holy grail mascara for a while until I just discovered there's a dupe for it by ELF!
Exact same formula, packaging is nearly the same as well, it's called E.L.F. "Lash Xtndr" mascara. Seriously, check it out! No more paying $20 a tube for Thrive's version!
Yes, Thrive is the best!
Wow, brilliant!
Ok thanks for the advice! Will definitely try it xx
Hi can you tell us which ones you found that is non drying to your eyes ?
@@SleeplessinOC yes, the one I currently using,L’Oreal Panorama waterproof, the MACStack waterproof and Dior Show waterproof are few great ones that I find are not drying. There is one L’Oreal one that I am unable to find anymore that was truly the best for me was the Butterfly Lash out waterproof. That brush really helped to build my lashes, didn’t flake or clump and was not drying. ✨🤍✨😊
If you’re having issues with dry eyes try using Systane eye gel drops a couple of times a day. Before bed they do wonders. I have ‘dry eyes’ and find using the gel drops helps a lot; otherwise my eyes water constantly.😊

Bare minerals gives your lashes a feathery look its really good mascara.
Love your lipstick color and also the gloss. Can you please share the brand & shades? Thank you.
Hey Cynthia! I have linked my lip combo in the description box for you 💕
My holy Grail mascara is Lash Princess by Essence. It works great, super cheap & cruelty free!
Hi ,great video 😊did you use waterproof in both mascaras ?i will definitely give this a go 👍🏻
Yes I did! They are both linked in the description box. You can always go for the Maybelline Sky High Waterproof Mascara if you are on a budget 💕
@@BillieBlonde thanks 👍🏻
AMAZING Kelli 👏🤩💔
Thank you ❤
No problem 😌
I use a eyelash primer
Blow dry on cool
Use a regular playing card i put the card o. The lash line and use thrive mascara let dry then use a waterproof mascara
I tight line with water proof mascara with a stiff brush. Never smudges❤️
Holy grail mascara is the Hourglass tubing one. Under that I put on the L’Oréal lash paradise primer. Game-changing.
Oh ok! I haven’t tried either of those. I will put them on my list thank you 💕
L’Oréal lash paradise!!
Ooo yes!!! 🙌
Lancôme makes great mascaras. I like them all
There’s one mascara I have tried (it’s wiggly) I’m not a huge fan of it. Maybe I should try some others xxx
I love Thrive Cosmetics mascara a lot!!!!!
So many people have mentioned this! I am going to take a look. Thank you xx
Such a great tip! Thank you for sharing 💕
Yea of course - I have linked it in my description box for you ☺️💕
Liked and subscribed!
😊
Thank you! Lovely to have you 🫶✨
Older women because you're watching the powder around the eyes due to wrinkles you can pat dry with a piece of gauze and it works just as good 👍
Its amazing how small eyes look with out makeup!!
Coconut oil was recommended to me by a dermatologist for waterproof mascara removal. It does a great job!
Beauty Counter think big all in one mascara is the absolute best!!
Tubing Mascara.....I can't go back to waterproof. Hopefully the formula will get better and better with time.
Yess for sure! Tubing mascaras are great - I would love to see them hold a curl better though xxx
Too Faced BTS Waterproof and Pat McGrath Dark Star. Mascara is my desert island must have.
Oo I’ll check it out thank you xxx
Wow. All this time, I thought tightlining meant *in the waterline* under the lashline. 😮 And they were all irritating my eyes. Will try next time. Thanks!
L'Oreal Telescopic is my fav
I love that!
May I ask what brand your flat brush is? I have one, but it's super stiff and hard to use. Can't wait to try your tips! Thank you!🤗
Thank you for your comment! Lovely to have you join the channel 💕 I have just linked the brush I used in the description box (it’s £5 and really great) xx
Please post which pencil you used to line the lashes! I need one that can be sharpened like that.😊
I have added it! I would recommend the dark pencil 💕💕
@ thank you! I am a new subscriber and look forward to your videos
Ooo ok! Thanks for sharing 🫶💕
This is great thank you! 🙏 💕
Pics would be great if you can
The only one that does elongates is by Chanel, but cheap brands work well. And a curved brush.
I have used waterproof mascara for years and years. And Neutrogena makeup remover hydrate towels. No issues. If I didn't use water proof mascara I'd be walking around with racoon eyes every single day.
What brand is the lash curler ???? Can't quite get what was said
MAC xx
Waterproof mascara is actually better for your lashes too. It’s the oil content.
Ooo that’s great to know! Thanks for sharing 💕
Panoramic mascara by loreal
Oo I’ll check it out thank you xxx
Does anything get eye infection?
Is the taupe liner-to-lashes technique okay for someone with deep-set eyes? Or should you try to do that only on the outer part of the eye?
Yes definitely!! You can take the eyeshadow a bit thicker aswell xx
I need a mascara that stays put in all circumstances. So waterproof. But not the smudging kind. Currently liking MAC Stack. Esthetically pleasing design of the packaging won't hurt (could never buy Charlotte Tilbury, the look of the brand just doesn't do it for me)
Never thought of using two mascaras.
✌️
I don't use a curler. I wonder if it is damaging for the eye lashes
I just get on with it
😂 ok!
Clarins
Holy grail mascara: Yves Saint Laurent volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara
I would always use waterproof mascara, but I can't get it in a Brown/Black. I find black mascara is a bit much for me. ANy suggestions? I am fortunate that I have quite long eyelashes, and I really love how mascara makes them pop.
They really need to make waterproof brown mascara! I would suggest getting a good quality lashes curler. I have seen some people spray setting spray on there spoolie to make it waterproof - you could try that?? 💕
I hate using makeup remover, so I never buy waterproof mascara.
What mascara can I use to get this result if I don't want to use waterproof?
Trish McEvoy Lash Curling (tube) mascara. My Holy Grail! Comes off with warm water alone!
The problem is that waterproof mascara plays a huge part of keeping that curl in. It has an ingredient in it which keeps them lifted xx
Do you not put mascara on bottom lashes? I never know if I should do that or not.
I personally don’t like it! Xx
