You will get it when you drive the XM Label. I was about to buy the XM and one test drive of the Label and I was sold. It’s far more refined and much much quicker. It’s what the XM should have been from day 1. So what the sense in it? It’s a great blend of luxury and performance in a car that looks leading edge. I have had more comments or people coming up to look at it in the past 2 weeks than my Maserati Grecale, X6 or X7 had in years. How quick is the Label? I’m still in the break in period, but the dealer told me they were getting 3.1s-3.2s when they tested it at launch. BMW are notorious conservative with their numbers. I’m even getting better consumption numbers than they quote. I’m getting 14-15mpg around town and 17-20mpg on the highway against the quoted 12-17mpg. My 4 cylinder Maserati Grecale Modena only got 16mpg around town so it’s pretty close to that. What’s more, I do all my local chores around my suburb on all electric each day and I just let it charge overnight so 3.5-4hrs to charge is perfectly fine. I’m loving the Label so far even running at around 70% power and torque. I can’t wait to see what it’s like at full power in a hundred miles when the power limited is removed. And yes, your analogy of it being a piece or modern contemporary art is very fitting. Many people hate modern art as they struggle to free the mind and that’s what this car needs.
It’s just good at being outrageous and in your face. Never liked the look of it but it grew on me. Still upset that BMWs most powerful vehicle/M vehicle is a damn suv and not a sleek supercar but can’t change that now. It’s unique that it’s a suv that made from the ground up to be a performance vehicle from their Performance division. There’s no downsized version with a smaller engine as a base model. You get all the power and all the looks from the get go. Mercedes, Audi and even Porsche don’t do that.
This car has only 489 hp by the internal combustion engine, which is pretty bad when you look at the weight. For example an X6M50i, which is cheaper, weighs less and looks better in my opinion, gets around 580 hp by its petrol engine. Furthermore its cheaper. So what did Bmw think when they put this engine in there. It should have at least around 640hp by the petrol engine (keep the weight in mind)

i like it. it really has a similar presence just a like MAN truck. i think that was the goal here, to make the biggest presence out of all other SUVs.
