  • The IC-7300 came on the market in 2016, according to the copyright notice in the manual (please don't fact check me on this). It has since become a favorite in the ham radio community for home stations, field day rigs, Parks on the Air, and so on.
This video will take a look at the first steps you will want to do to get your rig up and running and preparing to make it work for you.
This is a new rig for me, so we’re going to be learning about it together. Please feel free to add your knowledge and experience in the comments.

hi tom ... did a nano vna test scanner and cable ... 1.4 swr .... log minus 90 confused what logmag is

Took me awhile to find this in the nano operating manual - Selecting the Log Mag or Linear Mag trace format selects logarithmic- or linear-magnitude data for the active trace. So log mag is how the trace is shown on the screen.

What is your thoughts on whether ICOM and/or other manufacturers seeing the popularity explosion of POTA are working hard to develop a 100W ICOM 705 "like" version portable radio to compete with the legacy FT 891? I think a modern radio with everything the 705 does with 100W is a sweet spot marketing win... so I am patiently waiting.... hahaha Bob / KU3C

I think there is room for compact rigs for not only pota, but field day, mobile, and many other uses. My current plan is to build a hard case go to box for such pursuits and put my 991A in it with all its support equipment.

@@ND3N Yes I am a firm believer in a shack in a box for all radios I would buy. I started out with the Kenwood TS2000 - it could do everything. Then after I retired and moved into an HOA community I got the ICOM 705 for portable use - another shack in the box that can do it all. Now I want the 100w version of the portable that contains everything I need and lightweight, small like the FT891... the 991 is more of base station to me although it is slightly smaller than most it seems. I do not want to see a POTA activation taking up a whole picnic table! ha I have taken my 705 on my jet ski for POTA use and now I am trying to get smaller with a wire antenna versus my WRC. An example is here: ua-cam.com/video/RvuWyb6EQds/v-deo.html. I have been watching your videos for awhile; always enjoy them! Thx for the content. Bob

I thought you had an FTDX10? If my memory isn't failing me, why the 7300? It really isn't in the same league.

I have a Kenwood TS-890s and a Yaesu FT-991A. Wanted an Icom to complete the collection (hi hi)... I wouldn't mind an FTDX10 though...

So why then are you "Talking" CW?
Just laugh and leave CW where it belongs.
