- People seem to be very interested in the menu so I decided to put up a quick overall menu walkthrough of the RED Komodo 6K. REMEMBER this firmware is still pre-production (V1.0.0rc3). Likely most everything is subject to change and probably will have many improvements over the coming months.
If you have a suggestion about the menus please leave your comment(s) below. If you have any questions that I didnt cover please let me know, I plan to do another update to this around the stormtrooper release and again during the retail launch.

Fingers crossed there's a red side handle for aperture, record and iso changing. Won't be using that menu in gloves!

@@NiceladyproductionsCanada I've used the Raven, and Dragon systems. And if I learned one thing is I've learned to dislike RED. BUT!! As a tool in lean pre and post production. The pipeline is a pain in the ass from aquistion to output. I love the image but for a team that usually run's lean and our clients are higher rates of product turnover. It puts heavy empahsis in post production. As for the cameras, they are atrociously bad in UI and UI responsive, and the VERY expensive screen is very underwhelming when it comes to clarity, nits, and ergonomics. Just toggling the magnify tool is a feeling of (am i about to crash)
I may have missed it, but is it possible to send the focus peaking/zebra out the SDI ?

Something I'm a little unclear of having gone through the menus myself: If I'm shooting in ProRes 4K and the FORMAT is set to 6K, it doesn't seem to crop. But when I set the FORMAT to 4K it does crop, even though it's capturing 4K in both scenarios... Is that perhaps a workaround to avoiding cropping in 4K? Would you foresee any disadvantage to capturing 4K ProRes in a 6K FORMAT?

UI and responsiveness of the screen seems pretty bad. Does it lack finesse because it's firmware V1 or is this what it is?
To me it looks like it’s interpreting “press” as “swipe” 80% of the time. Seems entirely firmware based as there’s always movement when he touches the screen which suggests it does sense something touching it. Hence hope on this being fixed via firmware tweaks
I wish it had all the REDCode compression settings, from 3:1 all the way to 22:1. I'm a little saddened to find out it only supports "HQ" and "MQ," whatever those mean. Hopefully that changes later down the line with the the final production firmware.
They're simplifying things. It'll be LQ, MQ, and HQ.

Did you powder coat your RED? if so. where did you take your camera?
No options for off-speed/undercrank/overcrank frame rates, ie, 12, 16, 18, 32, 38, etc? No frame accumulation/frame averaging for timelapse & extended motion blur? Those features are on all other Reds that I'm aware of, shame they're not on this one. That touchscreen looks very frustrating. Hope that improves. Are there any buttons on the camera to assign functions to, ie, false color, zebras on/off, focus peaking on/off, etc? Sucks having to go into the menus for everything, especially if the screen is that finicky.

that would be physically impossible it's a 17:9 6K sensor.
Can you do a tutorial on ISO and how it works to get proper exposure.

You have to enter the menu to switch false color off 😂🤣 and where is the waveform why RED doesn’t put waveform in their cameras ? For me just works better than false color.

Love the menu system but I hope the touchscreen is improved on launch. Seeing you have to tap items multiple times before it registers the touch was horrible.

That IU needs bigger selective touch buttons, it seems you have trouble to select most of them.
I'm quite sure that's because he was operating it from the side. Try to use your smartphone at an unusual angle and you'll see touch responsiveness drop instantly.

As an app developer with dozens of devices at home: trust me, every touchscreen has this problem, it’s basic physics and a question of where you’d finger is in relation to the sensors.
The touchscreen seems crappy like a Galaxy 1 or so.

why do they always show ungraded footage, is that going to show us what exactly. the footage I've seen looks 3 times as bad as blackmagic 4k pocket.
