Catgut mark. You are going back a bit mate eh.that looks like some old lure made from catgut from one of them old tennis rackets eh mate.not enough baliffs anywhere. What they've been doing round here is getting the butchers S hook putting dead bait on it and the pike swallows it and the line is tethered to the bank and they leave it sometime and then pick up the dead fish.
The drains in Lincolnshire especially around Boston were full of big pike years ago but the poachers have completely knackered the fishing as you proved last season I used to catch more big pike in a day as you caught last season I can’t say me as I don’t fish them anymore it really is the reality of the fishing but I do hope you prove me wrong
In the last 10 years I've gone from 10-15 twenties a winter down to 1 or 2 if i'm lucky and now we have the added problem of Otters it's getting very difficult
Good stuff far play for sticking with the Witham . Keep meaning to have a session on there but feel it will be a let down . I’ve been doing well on the river steeping and new cut
To me that looks like a mackerel feather setup 🤔. Five or so hooks on 1 line if baited it would work quite well as a set line. That's if you don't pick up predators with teeth. Even if the bayliff was down every day it would be hard to stop it they'll just come at night
Another good video Mark you really put the effort in .I hope you catch some tench before the summer ends not long now until its pike season KTF
Cheers Ray, I hope so too! Got a couple of days this week to make it pay

Haven't seen a bailiff on that stretch for at least 2 seasons
Good effort mate 💪
Thanks ✌

The witham is brilliant when you can actually fish it sadly that is virtually impossible most of the summer
@@Fishing4Pleasure do things improve in the autumn/ winter?
@@marks5226 once the duckweed goes late September early October Tench & Bream fishing can be great
Good video shows the reality of not catching sometimes but what you go fishing for is isnt really fish in first place
Very true

Set line was my first thought too
