Exactly what UA-cam should be for. You’ve made a perfect guide that anyone can follow without going off subject and chatting s**t like some people do. Very well made and helpful. Thank you 🙏
First time in my life i am actually writing a comment on UA-cam, but i found your video to be extremely helpful, it is informative and the breakdown of the steps makes it easy to understand. Thank you and keep it up. Thank you
We were so engrossed in your video that Sam forgot he had to go to work... he was like a headless fly and had to run out ;D. Really great video, I have been struggling to find well structured and well-lit videos explaining LPG, so thanks. I'll be re-watching it to get my notes down. - Polly
Freedom Strider if you are looking to fit a LPG tank under your van the best place to get the tank and everything you need . I got a 79 litre tank which is 3020 diameter and 1010 long it was for everything that you need at a cost of £438 . I got it from LPG Shop , Gas it for a much smaller Tank with everything would of cost me £879. A big difference in price . I will do a walk around the outside of my van when I get a chance . I must say the sound may not be so good because I will only be using my phone and I have no way of editing it as I do not. Have a computer,
This is helpfully for somone who is about to install one myself. I'm taking ther fllor out completely which I don't think you were abele to but I'd clamp straight to the steel rather than throught the plywood
Great video! if you are going to tank a lot of LPG I could recommend putting a gas filter as well. LPG contains some additives that are not always playing nice with these hone appliances.s Or go the (litteral) extra mile and put pure propane in the tank :) that will also make it winter proof!
Sir, you are a life saver, I have just fitted my tank and the only thing I could not work out was how to fit the filler.... thank you for showing me how.
Thank you so much! Saved me time figuring out myself, I got it from gas it as well... Shame they dont sell the copper tube to the regulator anymore or I couldnt find it. So I bought copper pipe from screwfix and the fittings, but now need to make a flange on the copper tube...
I am a gas engineer that specialises in LPG. Some of this video worries me. You’ve run the high pressure hose in a wheel arch where there is a risk of mechanical damage, secured the pipe with unapproved fixings (cable ties), fitted a regulator without crash protection, i didn’t see a test point or additional emergency control valve (AECV), you then fill up the installation without apparently carrying out a strength test and tightness leak test. I get a lot of potential customers calling up wanting gas safety certs like it’s a done deal. There is a myriad of British Standards and UKLPG codes of practice to conform to, I give my time free of charge to help write these in an attempt to stop people hurting themselves. Get the gas fitted professionally, it’s just not worth it as you only end up having to get the work when it doesn’t conform to the standards. Propane is heavier than air, it puddles and hangs around when it leaks, in ducts and voids it quickly reaches flammability limits. Talk to a registered gas engineer first, not last as this video indicates.
Here's my safety hole which allows gas to disperse... and here's me covering it up with some nice panelling 😅 it begs the question, how important is that hole? Thanks for video, very informative.
A great video but please change the cable ties to brackets that will hold the fill pipe off the chassis so as to stop it rubbing and eventually slitting
I loved this video, it's fabulously useful - especially together with your LPG parts breakdown video. It's given me enough confidence that can do this myself. So I'll be giving it a shot in a few weeks time. Thanks so much. By the way, have you found the tank to be the right size? Does it give you enough capacity between needing to fill it up?
I'm surprised a sensible man like you is doing without a spare wheel. By 'super risky' you mean you know that a punctured flat tyre is practically inevitable travelling full time thousands of miles, but you're still choosing to have no spare tyre. There's no way I'd not carry a spare. There is sure to be a way to place one somewhere under there, re arrange things maybe, but even if not, a spare can always be put on a rear door, like on a 4x4 or jeep, or even on the front, like a landrover. You must carry a spare, surely. Alan, UK.
Informative video but you can't bend copper pipe by hand, it kinks reducing the flow in the pipe and will likely crack, you can see it at @17:20. Very worrying that this wasn't picked up by the tester!
As a Time Served Shrew Sexer & Vole Strangler, I concur with your observation of the 'pinched' pipe bend Charlie.... I went 'OOF!. It will probably restrict the gas flow enough to increase the cooking time of a Fray Bentos 'Minced Beef & Onion Pie' by a further 8-10 minutes!!
I think you could do it in one day as long as you had everything ready to go. Installing our oven would have taken a day as the counter top and drawers underneath needed a lot of modifying. I am doing another install for a friend tomorrow so I shall update you on how long that takes. Thanks for watching!! and good luck with installing yours, any questions you know where to ask!
Really great video. Thanks Hannah and Myron. Our gas will fuel the cooker and a heater, which are on different sides of the van, meaning we will need to split the pipe. Did you do this? And if so, did you split under the van using a T compression joint?
Good video, but you didn't seem to rust proof any of the holes you put through your van. Would have been a good idea as Mercedes are great dusters even with paint on them.
Thank you for the 2 videos, I have been trying to find something like this to help me with my built. PS: don't you have to vent the tank before filling? Read somewhere there might be some compressed air inside. Or might be old way of doing it.
Ooh we hadn't heard of this and the gas engineer who signed everything off didn't mention anything. I've done a bit of googling and can just find stuff saying to put a little bit of gas in and test everything (which might slowly get the air out I guess?) before properly filling up. Do you any more information on this? Would be super interested to read about it.
Right! It’s so much better. Save space and if you happen to get a leak it’s more likely to be outside your van. The refillable systems are more expensive to set up than the swap bottles but the price per litre of gas is way way way lower. I would always go refillable and always go underslung in future vans.
Alistair wow that’s a lot! Ours was around £500 which is still a lot but is much cheaper to fill than the swap bottles and is so much less effort. Plus we like being able to carry loads of gas so we don’t run out often.
If you're lucky enough to have a petrol and not a diesel van then double up on the tanks, if not triple up, and hook the same system up to the engine. Voila, you have LPG to cook with, to heat the van and water, and to run the engine at half the cost of petrol!
Hi guys quick question.. from your solenoid to you regulator you’ve used plastic coated copper pipe has that worked well for you or have you had any problems with it being the high pressure side or the regulator?? Only reason for asking is I’ve the same set up and can’t find a hp pigtail to fit so if it’s working well for you then I’ll give it a try .... cheers Chris
I saw from the other video that you were travelling through Finland. Gas is only available in 5/10kg bottles here so I'm wondering how did you manage with this solution. Just didn't need to fill the tank during that time?
We fill up at gas stations and on this trip we filled up in Estonia and Norway. We didn’t look to see if we could fill up in Finland, sorry but best of luck.
Hi H&M, Thx for this video. I habe a problem with my LPG LED. When I start the car, the LED(thank indicator) gets out after 30 seconds. I can't find the problem. Do you have any idea? thx in advance Edit: I have the same system as you
Looking at the description on the low current driver, I believe you can just use a simple 12v switch but it will draw 1.5amps while the tank is open, where the £150 switch reduces this to a very low current. If you have a solar panel or two 1.5amps is not much at all. But I would contact GasIt to just confirm that. Let us know what they say as I'm sure others will find it helpful.
Question anyone that knows, how is it best to seal up the area around the copperpipe after you have brought it from under the van through to the inside? Would you recommend a rubber followed by a sealant or would a sealant suffice? Worried about vibrations cracking then sealant and then having a wobbly pipe, thanks
Ive just found out to my horror this is illegal in australia. Im mortified. So disappointed. This is what i had planned. In this country its completely legal to fill a 60 l lpg tank mounted under the car from a fuel station, but completely illegal to fill a 9kg bottle mounted under the vehicle without removing the bottle /boggle.
Hi Thomas, no we don’t. It was another cost and since we have such a big tank, we figured we wouldn’t run out often. And we don’t! So we just fill up every couple of months and haven’t needed to worry about how much is in there.
You installed your regulator the wrong way, the inlet should be pointing👆 up towards the sky and above the tanks outlet. if your running a truma Combi 4e or other gas pressure sensitive appliance then it will eventually fail.
Off the top of my head the Thetford install instructions said a 10-15mm hole max was needed. And the cover is around 15mm above the hole so air can flow under. Always read your appliances specific manual before installing.
Yes it did for us. That’s because we have our grey water and fresh water tanks under there too. And our van is only a medium wheelbase. We converted a long wheelbase and were able to fit underslung fresh water, grey water and LPG, while still keeping the spare wheel.
@@HannahandMyron Many thanks for the reply. LPG is great, but losing the spare tyre is surely a sacrifice too far for a campervan. This is a real dilemma:(.
@@HannahandMyron My eye fell on that one as well. It's pretty hard to come by in the Netherlands for a reasonable price. Almost a €300 price difference compared to the UK. Might have to take the boat to pick one up.

word of warning not to buy from the Gas IT company that Hannah and Myron got the parts from, had a terrible experience with them and lost a lot of money. Could get no response from the company!

Hi when refilling the tank when do you know to stop filling?
The fill valve on the tank shuts off automatically when the tank becomes 80% full.
Take note, this very hard to fill in the uk. Or even Europe. 🤔 People resorting again to drums. 🍻
