- Who would have thought that someone would write a song of Jesus' genealogy based on Matthew 1:1-16? Well, Andrew Peterson did. He makes all those 'begats' in the first chapter of Matthew fun to listen. This beautiful song is from his album titled Behold The Lamb Of God a collection of songs about Jesus. It's the Christmas story told from an entirely different perspective. This song shows how Abraham's long list of lineage lead directly to the most important person in the Bible, Jesus Christ. It bridges the Old Testament and New Testament, showing Jesus' birth as part of God's plan from the very beginning.
In my opinion, it would be great if someone come up with a song based on Luke 3:23-38 which goes all the way back to Adam.

We sing this in my school every other Christmas and it is amazing! Everyone in the Choir loves to listen to the little kids sing it! Have a blessed week:)
We did that at my school too
awesome song. I used this tune to help me in a Bible college test.
Cute video! What a wonderful way to help the children learn about all the folks that had to come before Jesus!
Minor mistake in that St Matthew uses the term 'begat' to trace the line of succession yet Joachin died childless in exile. That's why the 2 genealogies converge on Zerubbabel before departing again into legal and physical lines.
Thank you so much for making this video! I use it to help teach my students this song! It's absolutely the perfect video to go with AP's incredible song, incredible album actually!
Great song this is great song that I can learn the begats📝
Awesome
Catchy and informative!

Since Jesus wasn't a blood relative of Joseph, none of those people were related to Jesus. Except for Mary of course.
+Joe Giuffre there is a separate genealogy for Mary in Luke's Gospel. (Chapter 3).
Chad Hoover "Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,
the son of Heli" - Luke Chapter 3:23
So, no.
Of course everyone is related to Noah, but that's another story.
After David, the line splits. One is Mary's (Luke's Gospel) and one is Joseph's (Matthew's Gospel). To say Joseph was Heli's son would be common (especially if Heli had no sons and only daughters). If Joseph married Heli's daughter, he would become the heir. Israelites are not concerned about blood relations. It was enough for Joseph to be considered Heli's son since he married his daughter. Just as Joseph's heritage is Jesus' heritage because Joseph is Jesus' adoptive father.
Chad Hoover Joachim is Mary's father.
> Thank you! < Finally!
I love how quickly & easily that long lineage is explained. This helped me learn so much. If it weren't for certain key woman... where would Christians be? No.. scratch that... actually if it weren't for each and every woman who gave birth! Talk about the Folks who put together "Scriptures" asking us to have BLIND Faith. I've gone to believing in our Creator... the omnipotent power that underlies all that is. Amen.
