Finally 8 months and I was able to achieve 140 bpm. The exercise that really complimented this alternate workout is the 5 min morning routine. Thanks Bernth, these really do work if you stick to them.
@@ProdAsh it's easy i did you have to pay for views I was just sweep picking haven't played guitar in 12 years, alternate picking is the first thing you should which I did on my own guitar
Bernth I love how your exercises actually sound good and are not just boring/annoying chromatic stuff. You obviously put a lot of time into the quality of your content. Well done as always and thanks for another great exercise!🤘🏻💪
September 19: Learning the pattern September 20: 70 bpm (I end up skipping parts) September 21: Crossed 80 after like a dozen tries September 25: Rusty 90 after 3 day break October 10: break due to exams so back at 80 October 21: I'm mad at myself for not keeping up but started again and at 90, also realized how much goo posture helps. October 22: I don't think I'm mentally ready for 100.
3 weeks on and I just managed to do 70 bpm cleanly. :) Finally gave up on 80 and made a drum track at a slower tempo. Managed to get to 72.5 today. 2 months from getting to 70 and I was finally able to make it to 80 although still a bit rough.
I've been practicing this along with several other of your excersizes for a week now, and my speed has increased from 110 bpm to 140 bpm in just that amount of time, I can't say enough how awesome I think your channel is. I've been playing 14 years, yet I am so behind on things like hand synchronization, and others. If only I had discovered your channel a few years ago. I plan on subscribing to the Patreon next week, and officiating you as my personal Mr. Myagi to take me the legend status I strive to be. Thank you Bernth
I signed up to Bernth Patreon today. I ran across the channel today and saw workouts and realized this is exactly what I am looking for to improve. I'm in a rut and was cruising UA-cam and ran across this channel. I usually don't ever do Patreon, but I realized Bernth instruction is excellent, and I going to give it a 90 day commitment to these workouts. Really talented guitarist.
It’s crazy it’s like you know my next steps in what I’m trying to do. I’ve been getting really good and going back and forth between any 4 close notes on one string. Then moving up to the next and back down, alternate picking as well as different sub divisions when picking. It helps, but this will help me way more! Thank you Bernth. Been enjoying playing and learning!
Day 1 jun 18: 110 barely Day 2 jun 19: 120, played 130 for a bit, I'm calling it a 120 for today :) Day 3 (revisiting) jan 01: 110, 120 barely May 29 having revisited this for the last week or so along with other exercises Reached 140, cleanly, quite easily in fact. It was super hard to cross over into a different realm where you learn to discern the notes at 140bpm in an entirely different way than you would slowly. I read this in many comments that it's hard and I can relate. Do other exercises where you can play stuff at that speed. Learn to 'get' 140bpm! Then it becomes easier here. Your hands can already do it. It's your brain that's lagging. Practice practice practice and always mix it up. Thanks Bernth!
Did 30 days straight without missing a single day for 10-15 mins. Finally I am able to get 110 consistently most of the time. I even started getting a little 120 starting to to come together. I'm going to keep at it for another 30 and see what I can achieve. I need to focus on better economy with fret hand for sure. Thanks for the tip on no angle to fret hand, that really helped out.
@@Mustis1524 Good, I'm now pretty consistent on 120 and starting to get parts of 130. I am still incorporating every evening in guitar warmups. This exercise really works, my hand coordination for a Rand Rhoads solo Believer is really coming together. I'm at 95%speed when before I could only get to 75%
Thank you so much Bernth, I've been playing the acoustic guitar for years now and never had the motivation toi develop my fingers' speed and technique on electric guitar. You sir motivated me to overcome this and now I really take pleasure working on electric and actually seeing progress Keep up, you truely are an inspiration❤️
I turned 45 in February. I’ve been playing the guitar since I was eleven years old and due to being poor, I was completely self taught. I’ve picked up many things along the way, you can’t help but to I guess, but I’ve felt plateaued for a long time. I have to tell you how quickly things are coming together after finding this video and the hand synchronization exercise. I haven’t made it to the end of either one yet, it’s only been two days, but I’m nothing short of blown away at how things are falling into place already. I won’t look at any other lessons until I master the first two I came upon. I have a feeling I’ll hit beast mode eventually. I have to be honest, I don’t think I’ll apply what I’m learning to songwriting. I will become nothing but a better guitarist. I can’t thank you enough ☮️
August 11/2023 got some trouble learning the pattern once I got it I achieved 70 bpm clean, almost 80 August 13 already improved stuck at 90 almost 100. Thank you Bernth ❤
I love the way your exercises have melody, and how you build speed slowly so when you reach faster speeds, you already have muscle memory and improved synchronization. Thank You Sir !! GC
What I like about your channel Bernth is that it offers real exercises that you can actually play along, instead of long talking an explanation. What makes perfect is practicing!
Played the riff on and off a few weeks ago. Was quite difficult for me then. Been practicing Through the Fire and Flames like mad the last few weeks. So this feels better now. December 6: 120BPM December 7: 140BPM, trying to tidy up 130BPM December 8: 140BPM inconsistent, 130BPM cleaner December 9: 140 BPM inconsistent, 130BPM clean December 10: 140BPM inconsistent. December 11: 130BPM pretty good, 140bpm inconsistent, 120BPM easy. December 12: 140BPM clean up. 130BPM. December 13: 140BPM most of the time. December 14: Complete. December 26: 155BPM December 27: 170BPM Day 1 Thoughts: Hoping to complete this in a week! Day 2 Thoughts: Making good progress. Day 3 Thoughts: Took a slight step back at first integrating better thumb placement. Day 4 Thoughts: Feels so much better with new thumb placement after much practice. Cleaner takes now. Day 20 Thoughts: Practicing this one a lot for tricky, fast runs. Hope to get to 200BPM one day!
you are one of the lew ppl that goes *beyond* BERNTH's exercise limit (here it is 140 BPM) Good luck on that, I'm also working on pushing my comfort zone above 140BPM !
@@alex-ellsworth exactly ! I also remember the time I first tried this exercise 100BPM, my hands literally collapsed. It took me 10 days to be able to play this somewhat right, and another 4 days to make it clean. Now I can play 125 clean, 140ish kinda good and 150 is a bit sloppy. But like BERNTH said, if you don(t push yourself, you won't progress Lastly, the fretting hand technique is *extremly* important in my opinion. While 110BPM and lower can be played fairly good with bad technique, it's just not possible above that threshold. Non-angled fretting hand and minimal movement is essential.
@@ajbs_alexo_713 Yeah man, I think we're on a similar path here. I've gotten my picking hand much stronger than it was months ago through much practice. Now moving the focus back to more economical motions on the fretting hand, which definitely means fairly minimal, non-angled movement. Now I'm trying to get 140-150BPM very consistently clean and synchronized. I think I'm almost there, and then definitely looking at cleaning up higher bpms past that. I also find the other chromatic speed exercise pretty difficult compared to this one lol. At least in terms of making it clean and the mechanics involved.
@@alex-ellsworth glad to know I'm not the only one who thought "hey that's easy compared to that one chromatic exercise" Also, playing with a clean sound is very helpful when it comes to practising exercises like this, because it allows you to instantly hear if you missed a note, didn't move your hands fast enough...
Thank you Bernth! This is such a cool exercise to work on. I basically started my guitar journey with this exercise after learning how to pick properly and play some open chords lol. Month 1: clean 80 bpm. dirty 90 bpm. Month 2: clean 120 bpm Month 3: clean 130 bpm Month 4: clean 140 bpm Month 6: clean 150 bpm. pushing 160 bpm but yeah. It definitely works. 6 months with around 3 weeks of down time in total where I did not play thanks to vacations/sick days etc. (Not consecutively) Take your time and enjob the process, people I can NOT reach 160 bpm at one-go btw. I take a 2 min break after 120 bpm or my hand gets too tensed up to play. I cant imagine how people can play gigs without much of a pause. I wish the 5 min morning routine was progressing as fast as this one, but that one is a totally different beast imo
Another convert. Just for fun, I added the same pattern to the B string, and found I needed to move up one note to play along. Moved it to the low E string as well. I need to come up with a pattern modification for all six strings, unless you beat me to it, Bernth. It took three sessions to get it down, but man has it improved my fretting AND synchronization.
Sep 8th, 16th day, I actually got 120bpm fairly fluidly for the first time and pushed onto 130, and while it was rough, I got parts of it, very happy, need to keep pushing
After 32 Days (Not consistent) of Practicing this specifically with other days of practice working on other technique things, I'd say I can get to 140 bpm!!! It's a little sloppy but I did it and I can only get better from here! I am adding this to my list of technique practicing things so I keep up this speed and hopefully get faster! If you are still reading this and think this is hard, then you are right! It is hard but keep practicing and playing fun things on guitar and you can make it! That's what I did!
Thank you so much for this exercise! Learnt so much from it in terms of posture, picking technique and self-confidence. Works as a charm with the 5 minutes warm-up. Used it regularly and impressed at how it changed the efficiency on the upcoming exercises. Thank you so much! 30/07: 80 (going onto 90). Lot of time spent getting the pattern to roll on efficiently 31/07: 100 01/08: 100 (going onto 110) 02/08: 110 (going onto 120) 04/08: after a one day break, 110 really clean, still trying to reach 120 05/08: feel quite at ease at 120, trying to perform it at 130 bpm in a clean way, but still complicated 06/08: Tired, hard to concentrate, going back to 110, difficult to get past 120. Hope it will be better tomorrow 07/08: 120 ok / 130 ok and finally managed to push it to 140. Tried it a few times to be shure it wasn't just luck, but passed it each time. Still some work to do on it, but what a surge of self-confidence. Thanks for this, I'll continue working upon it in the upcoming days. Far more efficient than everything I had tried until now. Really cool to practice!
Day 1: learned the pattern at 20bpm Day 2: 40bpm sounds okay, altough there are some mistakes Day 3: 50bpm sounds solid, 60 bpm is okay, sometimes I manage to do 70bpm Day 4: 60bpm is easy to do, but 70bpm still sounds sloppy Day 5: - Day 6: 70bpm sounds good Day 7: - Day 8: - Day 9: managed to do 80bpm multiple times today
Hey Bernth so I just tried this workout and boy was it tough I managed to get all the way up to level 5 on the first day but I plan on going ever further throughout the week. Thank you so much brother and keep up the great work as always
Hi Bernth, I really like your videos and your exercises really helpful to me but the only problem is that I'm a beginner Shredder and can't find the right order to proceed so can you please make a beginner's guide playlist for that, that would be really helpful 🙏.
You are such a nice person man, your methods have brought me quite far, I am self learning following couple of youtubers, but your encouragement and play along thing just works perfect for me. Love your videos 💖
this works. literally. if you cant altenate pick do bernths exercises. I thought i would never learn. Then i decided to check bernths videos that i skipped for years. he is a beast coach. it works. it works. i can alternate pick now. thanks to bernth i did the impossible.
Your the best and my favorite..ive come along way since watching you and your playing..ill never be as good but at 55 I just want to smile when I'm playing at home with confidence..not there yet bernth but I'll get there with your help. Thank you partner
Just keep playing, my friend. You'll come into your own and then it won't be about comparing yourself to anybody; you'll be yourself as the best player you can be.
Thanks, great work out. Just got my guitar back after 6 months and these exercises are just what I need. Any chance you can show us what your right hand is doing exactly? Are you resting it on the strings or resting your wrist on the guitar? I'm looking to get faster and read that resting your wrist/ arm on the guitar is better for speed. I have always rested on the strings but will change if it gets me more speed.... cheers.
September 18 - learnt the sequence I didn't note the days October 2 - clean 110 BPM, struggling with 120... It is a really fun and efficient picking practice. I'm playing for 16 years, but never too well and always bored to death with different lessons BUT THIS, holy-moly... I'm gonna buy the shit out of this 30 day course after my payment. F*ck if I had this back then in my teenager years I would probably a f*ckin rock star by now. Thanks Bernth!
DAY 1: Reached 90bpm once DAY 2: Reached 100bpm but struggled and my left hand was tense. DAY 3: Played it after another Bernth picking exercise but I didn't measure it. Focused on relaxing my fingers. DAY 4: Same as yesterday but Wasn't using the metronome. DAY 5: Breakthrough Today I put the video on 75% speed from slowest speed to limit - First playthrough I focused only on my left hand isolating the individual finger and relaxing the rest. made it to 120bpm at 75% speed. -second playthrough I focused only on my right hand picking; tensing the muscle slightly for each individual up and down with a fast and smooth flick motion with as little tensing as possible aiming to do it efficiently enough to get achieve the hand being relaxed and ready for the next up/down pick (trying to create more time of my hand being in a relaxed state of readiness.) -I managed to play through to true 105BPM with this approach!! :O I was VERY SURPRISED. (realised that by isolating my complete focus on the hand I'm working on instead of both, I can increase my depth of sensory awareness of my hand (picking in this case) and make small micro adjustments as I play through at a comfortable tempo. I found that the jump in 10bpm between stages was too great to allow me to carry my technique forward from the previous tempo, and my body would introduce a large number of tension and movement changes. I will use 75% video speed from now on or perhaps even slower for smaller controlled increments. Thanks Bernth for this video!
I can only say to you, thank you! I feel great! Only one week and i start to see changes in the synchronization of both hands!! In the early days, i could only play well until 80bpm. Today, i can play all the notes at 110bpm. The goal: 140bpm.
day 1 : 80 bpm day 2 : 90 bpm day 3 : 90 bpm day 4 : 100 bpm day 5 : 100 bpm day 6 : 100 bpm day 7 : 110 bpm HOLY SHIT THAT WAS HARD day 8 : 100 yesterday I was more warmed up day 9 : 100 bpm
Day 1: 40 bpm, still trying to get my finger's to remember the notes. Getting older sucks, but once I got it I think I'll be able to bump the speed up a bit quicker. Day 2: 50 bpm is ok, but still trying to get my fingers to remember the notes. It's been good for keeping an eye on my left hand thumb position so far. Day 3: 70 is clean, start messing up at 80 and 90. Day 6: Been practicing off UA-cam with a metronome but am up to 90 bpm clean 100 bpm start to mess up. Also starting to notice better picking technique and left hand thumb placement when messing around playing other things. Day 9: Missed a few days due to work so still at 90 clean and 100 bpm start to mess up Day 19: Hit a wall at 100 but can now do it cleanly, on to 110 with mistakes. Discovered that my picking technique was holding me back (too much unnecessary movement)
Starting Jan 8 ~ Day 1 - 60/70 bpm Day 2 - 90 bpm ( I can also play on 100 today but I practiced more on 90 and tried switching back and forth ) Day 3 - 100 bpm Day 4 - 100 bpm ( broo I tried going 110 todaay but damn it's gonna take far more practice for that haha ) Day 8 - 90 bpm Day 9 - 90 bpm
START October 23: 90/100bpm October 24: 100bpm October 25: 100/110bpm (not clean enough) October 26: rest October 27: rest October 28: 110/115 bpm (not clean - I lost control while picking) In November and December, I stopped because of an injury and the rehabilitation stage. January 1: Managed to keep on 110bpm at the second try. January 21: 110 - 115bpm January 22: 115bpm January 25: 118-120bpm my own metronome February 2: 120 bpm with my own metronome
feeling better after seeing all these comments been practicing this for about 5 days everyday and pushing myself while also making sure to focus on technique and today i finally managed to hit 90Bpm somewhat consistently as long as i remember to stay relaxed theres still like 50bpm to go and its gonna get harder but im so proud of myself for nailing 90bpm🎉🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳
Starting on June 05 2022 Day 1: 30bpm (50bpm) (practiced for bout 40 minutes, memorised the pattern) Day 2: 40bpm (60bpm) (did bout 10 minutes) Day 3: 60bpm (70bpm - actually managed to pull it off perffectly once) (over half an hour of practice) Day 4: x Day 5: x Day 6: 70bpm (even did with 80bpm a couple o times, but it lacked clarity) Day 7: 80bpm (sometimes gets really lost at 80 tho) Day 8: 80bpm (still not comfortable enough) Day 9: x (my electric arrived today) (I have been "playing" acoustic guitar for years, mainly fingerstyle, but never really took it seriously, (until now, hopefully). My greatest weakness is rythm, tho i struggre with left hand controll too, as my thumb (and sometimes my whole hand) hurts a lot. I figured out, that stretching my hand helps with this a LOT. I started practicing for this challange with my acoustic. The tempos are the ones i could play the exercise perfectly, and in the brackets the maximum possible tempo that i could almost handle at the time are shown. I started doing this exercise on my acoustic.
This is an extremely helpful exercise, thanks man. If anyone struggled to get the hang of it while starting at 40bpm like I did, set the playback speed to .75
Thanks a lot..I enjoy your lesson and practicing and really I got good result in 15days..My hand synchronizing much better than previous...Respect man..Love from🇮🇳
You have a good workout for like every single guitar technique! Gonna be very helpful for me as I try to become more serious with my practicing. Thanks!

@@airon128 didn't give up, I just forget to comment back in this (I normally do a full practice schedule and leave the comments for later, and I always forget them), right now I can manage 140BPM really well, sometimes 150
13/4/2 about 4 days ago i started the legato challenge and ofte tripped myself on the faster parts, im trying to not expect much from myself in terms of consistency but this and vibrato is something that i need to work on, i learned the pattern and got it up to 70
March 30 - 80 bpm March 31 - 90bpm April 1 - 100bpm April 2 - 110 bpm Using a metronome at 95 and 105 did the trick for me to break the plateau April 4 - back to 100 again April 9 - stuck at 110 April 10 - 130bpm April 22 - Still at 130 May 16 - 140bpm
Really late for this but this is how it's going so far: Day 1: 100bpm consistently, 110bpm doable but slightly sloppy. Day 2: Managed to get 110bpm down, can do 120bpm most of the times, and I even managed to do 130bpm once! Day 3: More consistency but no breakthrough.
Playable stat Day 1 : 60 bpm Day 2 : 70 bpm Day 3 : first part 80 bpm Day 4 : 80 bpm , 90 bpm (10%) Day 5 : 80 bpm Day 6 : 20% 90 bpm Day 7-8 :try to master 80 bpm , PB 90 bpm Day 9 : My wrist pain,still 80 to bpm Day 10 : 80 bpm, 90 bpm Day 11 : 100% 90 bpm Day 12 : 90 bpm grind for 100 Day 13 : mastering 90 bpm Day 14 : 90 bpm , can do 100 bpm but not enough endurance. Day 15 : 90 bpm , the sync feels better than evr. Say 16 : 100 bpm Day 18 : mastering 90 bpm again after rest for 2 days Day 19 : mastering 100 bpm Day 20 : 100 bpm my wrist hurt
You're so awesome and you've taught me so much I'm privileged to be able to watch your videos I hope you're out for a long time to come because you are my new teacher I can't afford to pay for your lessons necessarily but when I watch your videos and the teach videos you put on UA-cam they've made me a way better guitar player so thank you very much and you keep doing what you do you're awesome
1:55 40BPM 2:24 50BPM 3:29 60BPM 4:05 70BPM (Took up the drill again after 7mths, more determined this time. Seems like brain started to hear the notes differently at 70bpm) 4:35 80BPM (I could keep up with the speed but need to breath and relax my hands to keep on) 5:00 90BPM 5:25 100BPM (stuck at 100 today) 5:45 110BPM (back and forth between 100 and 110, 100 seems slower now when i go back from 110 but i fall apart starting at 3rd pattern in 110) 6:09 120BPM (can keep up with beat but need to be more consistent) (doing OK with 120 now) 6:25 130BPM (I crumble into pieces, lol) (need to relax more to keep up with tempo) (still tend to be a bit slow), 02/21/2023 (i get better feeling if i do it unplugged, seems i get better control). 6:40 140BPM (more practice to go. I'm getting slaughtered at this speed), 02/21/2023 (probably attainable if i start working in increments of 2bps using the YT slider)
Bernth Mega Videos.
October 21: 80bpm October 22: 90bpm (after a few tries at it. Getting used to the pattern now) October 23: 90bpm October 25: 90bpm (can keep up with 100 but still struggling) October 26: 90bpm
@@andreyandreev1324 i stopped working on this after 120bpm and started other alernate picking exercises. this did help but any pattern would help as long as you practice right. (i would still recommend this one because of the play along parts)

Day 1 - 24.4 - Struggling to even play this exercise Day 2 - Barely making it at 50% speed 40bpm with a couple mistakes (hopefully it'll get better soon) Day 3 - ruined because I couldn't even practice Day 4 - 40/50 BPM (100% speed) honestly happy with myself since I couldn't even do that much till now / I ended up being able to play it at 50 BPM so Day 5 - 50 BPM - felt super nervous and barely passed 40 BPM and failed at the end at 50 BPM Day 5 - take two - 60 BPM - failed a bit at the end, but basically passed Day 6 - wasn't home at all and I had no way of trying it Day 7 - 60 BPM - 70 BPM seems possible, but kinda hard Day 8 - 50 BPM - kept failing at the start and always felt like my brain was lagging behind Day 9 - 70 BPM - felt super fast, but I somehow succeeded without failing Day 10 - 70 BPM - seems super easy and not too fast, 80 BPM is still far out of my reach Day 11 - 70 BPM - same as yesterday Day 12 - 80 BPM - kinda did it, recorded myself and I realised that I was a bit too slow at the start, but after that everything went fine Day 13 - 80 BPM - felt much easier, had to try it only 3 times before I got it Day 14 - 80 BPM - bad start of the day and so was the exercise, 90 BPM seems possible, it was kinda sloppy af though Day 15 - 80 BPM - seemed super hard, had a rough day so didn't expect anything else Day 16 - 90 BPM - very sloppy, but kinda fine Day 17 - 80 BPM - shit day Day 18 - 80 BPM - seems hard as hell again, gonna keep on practicing 80 till I can do it clean 9/10 times Day 19 - 80 BPM - have nothing to say Day 20 - 90 BPM - sloppy af again, but I'm getting there Day 21 - 90 BPM - super sloppy, also I am sick as of writing this so that may have smth to do with it Day 22 - 90 BPM - felt really good this time Day 23 - 90 BPM - felt even better than yesterday Day 24 - 90 BPM - sloppy again, had brain lag Day 25 - 90 BPM - still super sloppy, been sick the entire week so I'm proud of myself for even trying to do it Day 26 - 90 BPM - starting to lose my focus, since I'm trying to learn how to play basketball at the same time whilst already going to the gym and school Stopped counting days, basically in short I am stuck on 90 BPM, sometimes can't even play 90, but sometimes I can play it really well so I am kinda lost lmao
Day 1 90bpm Was too lazy to post daily but i wasnt too lazy to practice:)) Day 45(approximately) challenge completed! What’s interesting is that even though i can now do 140bpm comfortably with this exercise, im stuck at around 110-120 with other exercises where there are also string transitions. I think my weakness could be a strong connection between pinky and ring finger, and also a floating pinky :)
April 28: Struggling with 90bpm, got 80 done April 29: Got 90 done, working on 100 April 30: Got 100, still continuing May 2: Managed 110 and going still May 3: Keeping up with 120 mostly but far from perfect May 5: Close to 120 May 6: Got 120, however not perfect
It's been a while since I last watch your vids Bernth, but i don't i have thanked you yet though. For some reasons youtube recommended me to you, and honestly all your technique exercises help me polish my skills and for that, thank you very much. For now though, i think i'll focus on familiarizing the pattern first, then tomorrow i'll practice allong the vid :>>
You're on fire sir! Justin time for me with this alternate picking workout. 😎 Been using you warm up and practice routines - great stuff. Many thanks Bernth!
Day 1: 80 bpm, hard to get the pattern down to memory, if i increase my tempo I mess up the pattern Day 2: 90 bpm goes easily, still some mistakes at 100bpm Day 7: 110bpm goes pretty smoothly, I can play through 120 with mistakes
Day 1: I can do 50 BPM downpicking, alt picking is harder without tension in muscles, so alt is 40 BPM. Day 21: I practiced alt picking with other exercises and when I tried this one again, by the end of the day I could do 70 BPM (80 BPM too but that was sloppy compared to 70).
Thanks! Cool exsersise! Awesome for guitar players on the stage! Dear Bernth, is it hard for you make some lesson about how to correctly play guitar on the stage standing? When guitar set down?
started 8/7 - 70 bpm 8/8 - 80 bpm 8/9 - 90 bpm, a lil messy, but I hit all the notes 8/13 - 90 bpm, not faster yet, but playing is getting much cleaner overall 8/15 - 90 bpm, almost had 100, just a teeny bit slow 8/25 - 100 bpm - finally clean enough to hear all the notes 8/29 - 100 bpm, still cleaning up 100 a bit 9/2 - 100 bpm, 110 is sooo close 9/7 - 110 bpm, still a bit messy, but finally keeping up 9/15 - 90 bpm after 3 day break 9/27 - still around 110, 120 getting a bit clearer 9/30 - 120 bpm finally came together!! 130 still can't hear open notes
17 august - 100 bpm
14 september - 110 bpm
20 january - 120 bpm

That's nice lol. Gotta check that one out
Lol, same. Still not able to get over 100. I'm totally losing control in my fretting hand.
Man u have some big breaks
3 weeks on and I just managed to do 70 bpm cleanly. :)
Finally gave up on 80 and made a drum track at a slower tempo. Managed to get to 72.5 today.
2 months from getting to 70 and I was finally able to make it to 80 although still a bit rough.
What about now?
I've been practicing this along with several other of your excersizes for a week now, and my speed has increased from 110 bpm to 140 bpm in just that amount of time, I can't say enough how awesome I think your channel is. I've been playing 14 years, yet I am so behind on things like hand synchronization, and others. If only I had discovered your channel a few years ago. I plan on subscribing to the Patreon next week, and officiating you as my personal Mr. Myagi to take me the legend status I strive to be. Thank you Bernth
Totally relate to this -- been playing for 15 years!

2:45 - 50 bpm
3:29 - 60 bpm
4:05 - 70 bpm
4:35 - 80 bpm

Day 1 jun 18: 110 barely
Day 2 jun 19: 120, played 130 for a bit, I'm calling it a 120 for today :)
Day 3 (revisiting) jan 01: 110, 120 barely
May 29 having revisited this for the last week or so along with other exercises
Reached 140, cleanly, quite easily in fact.
How did it go?
@@Mustis1524 Good, I'm now pretty consistent on 120 and starting to get parts of 130. I am still incorporating every evening in guitar warmups. This exercise really works, my hand coordination for a Rand Rhoads solo Believer is really coming together. I'm at 95%speed when before I could only get to 75%
@@chasingtrailproductions3689how’s it going now lol
Thank you so much Bernth, I've been playing the acoustic guitar for years now and never had the motivation toi develop my fingers' speed and technique on electric guitar. You sir motivated me to overcome this and now I really take pleasure working on electric and actually seeing progress
Keep up, you truely are an inspiration❤️
You're the only person who encourages me to play, teacher! 🙂🎶
Don't stop broski you'll only get better !
August 11/2023 got some trouble learning the pattern once I got it I achieved 70 bpm clean, almost 80
August 13 already improved stuck at 90 almost 100.
Thank you Bernth ❤
I love the way your exercises have melody, and how you build speed slowly so when you reach faster speeds, you already have muscle memory and improved synchronization.
Thank You Sir !!

So this feels better now.

you are one of the lew ppl that goes *beyond* BERNTH's exercise limit (here it is 140 BPM)
Good luck on that, I'm also working on pushing my comfort zone above 140BPM !
@@ajbs_alexo_713 Thanks man! Gotta keep pushing! Yeah, working on making each level very clean with good technique
But like BERNTH said, if you don(t push yourself, you won't progress
Lastly, the fretting hand technique is *extremly* important in my opinion.
@@alex-ellsworth glad to know I'm not the only one who thought "hey that's easy compared to that one chromatic exercise"
Also, playing with a clean sound is very helpful when it comes to practising exercises like this, because it allows you to instantly hear if you missed a note, didn't move your hands fast enough...
Thank you Bernth! This is such a cool exercise to work on. I basically started my guitar journey with this exercise after learning how to pick properly and play some open chords lol.
Month 1: clean 80 bpm. dirty 90 bpm.
Month 2: clean 120 bpm
Month 3: clean 130 bpm
Month 4: clean 140 bpm
Month 6: clean 150 bpm. pushing 160 bpm but yeah. It definitely works. 6 months with around 3 weeks of down time in total where I did not play thanks to vacations/sick days etc. (Not consecutively)
Take your time and enjob the process, people
I can NOT reach 160 bpm at one-go btw.
Too underrated this guy deserves so much more credit his vids are very helpful

Thanks, great work out. Just got my guitar back after 6 months and these exercises are just what I need. Any chance you can show us what your right hand is doing exactly? It is a really fun and efficient picking practice. I'm playing for 16 years, but never too well and always bored to death with different lessons BUT THIS, holy-moly... I'm gonna buy the shit out of this 30 day course after my payment. F*ck if I had this back then in my teenager years I would probably a f*ckin rock star by now.

DAY 1: Reached 90bpm once
DAY 2: Reached 100bpm but struggled and my left hand was tense.

(I have been "playing" acoustic guitar for years, mainly fingerstyle, but never really took it seriously, (until now, hopefully).

April 9 - stuck at 110
April 10 - 130bpm
April 22 - Still at 130
May 16 - 140bpm
Really late for this but this is how it's going so far:
Day 1: 100bpm consistently, 110bpm doable but slightly sloppy.

Doing this on the low E string along with the video is good practice as well!
1:55 40BPM
2:24 50BPM
3:29 60BPM
4:05 70BPM (Took up the drill again after 7mths, more determined this time. Seems like brain started to hear the notes differently at 70bpm)
4:35 80BPM (I could keep up with the speed but need to breath and relax my hands to keep on)
5:00 90BPM
5:25 100BPM (stuck at 100 today)
5:45 110BPM (back and forth between 100 and 110, 100 seems slower now when i go back from 110 but i fall apart starting at 3rd pattern in 110)
6:09 120BPM (can keep up with beat but need to be more consistent) (doing OK with 120 now)
6:25 130BPM (I crumble into pieces, lol) (need to relax more to keep up with tempo) (still tend to be a bit slow), 02/21/2023 (i get better feeling if i do it unplugged, seems i get better control).
6:40 140BPM (more practice to go. I'm getting slaughtered at this speed), 02/21/2023 (probably attainable if i start working in increments of 2bps using the YT slider)
Day 2, 100 BPM, about a year of playing guitar in total. Thank you so much Bernth!
Thank you so much my teacher.
Sounds awesome actually I like the backing track so much
Bernth
Mega Videos.
Bernth: Just practicing
Me: Shit, I'm out of my fingers again.
October 21: 80bpm
October 22: 90bpm (after a few tries at it. Getting used to the pattern now)
October 23: 90bpm
October 25: 90bpm (can keep up with 100 but still struggling)
October 26: 90bpm
Your alternate picking workout helps me a lot. Thank you so much!
This one is awesome!!! I’m gonna need to work slowly on this because my picking hand/left hand synchronization SUUUUUUCKS… 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks bernth
21.01.22 : 70bpm
22.01.22 : 100bpm (practicing the pattern more helped alot)
24.01.22 : 110bpm
So, how is the result of the practice? Was this useful?
@@andreyandreev1324 i stopped working on this after 120bpm and started other alernate picking exercises. this did help but any pattern would help as long as you practice right. (i would still recommend this one because of the play along parts)
This is so productive! WOW!
Superb exercise! Have you a follow-on video that involves more than one string? Thank you!
*11-12-22* day 1

Finally 80
Day one: 110 bpm
Day two: 110 bpm
Day three: almost 120 bpm
Day four: 120 bpm
Day five: 120 bpm
Day six: 120 bpm
Day seven: almost 130 bpm
Day eight: almost 130 bpm
Day nine: 130 bpm
Day ten: 130 bpm
Day eleven: 130 bpm
Day twelve: 130 bpm
Day thirteen: 130 bpm
Day fourteen: almost 140 bpm
29.09 40 BPM 0.75% Speed learning the pattern
Day 1 - 24.4 - Struggling to even play this exercise
Day 2 - Barely making it at 50% speed 40bpm with a couple mistakes (hopefully it'll get better soon)
Day 3 - ruined because I couldn't even practice
Day 4 - 40/50 BPM (100% speed) honestly happy with myself since I couldn't even do that much till now / I ended up being able to play it at 50 BPM so
Day 5 - 50 BPM - felt super nervous and barely passed 40 BPM and failed at the end at 50 BPM
Day 5 - take two - 60 BPM - failed a bit at the end, but basically passed
Day 6 - wasn't home at all and I had no way of trying it
Day 7 - 60 BPM - 70 BPM seems possible, but kinda hard
Day 8 - 50 BPM - kept failing at the start and always felt like my brain was lagging behind
Day 9 - 70 BPM - felt super fast, but I somehow succeeded without failing
Day 10 - 70 BPM - seems super easy and not too fast, 80 BPM is still far out of my reach
Day 11 - 70 BPM - same as yesterday
Day 12 - 80 BPM - kinda did it, recorded myself and I realised that I was a bit too slow at the start, but after that everything went fine
Day 13 - 80 BPM - felt much easier, had to try it only 3 times before I got it
Day 14 - 80 BPM - bad start of the day and so was the exercise, 90 BPM seems possible, it was kinda sloppy af though
Day 15 - 80 BPM - seemed super hard, had a rough day so didn't expect anything else
Day 16 - 90 BPM - very sloppy, but kinda fine
Day 17 - 80 BPM - shit day
Day 18 - 80 BPM - seems hard as hell again, gonna keep on practicing 80 till I can do it clean 9/10 times
Day 19 - 80 BPM - have nothing to say
Day 20 - 90 BPM - sloppy af again, but I'm getting there
Day 21 - 90 BPM - super sloppy, also I am sick as of writing this so that may have smth to do with it
Day 22 - 90 BPM - felt really good this time
Day 23 - 90 BPM - felt even better than yesterday
Day 24 - 90 BPM - sloppy again, had brain lag
Day 25 - 90 BPM - still super sloppy, been sick the entire week so I'm proud of myself for even trying to do it
Day 26 - 90 BPM - starting to lose my focus, since I'm trying to learn how to play basketball at the same time whilst already going to the gym and school
Stopped counting days, basically in short I am stuck on 90 BPM, sometimes can't even play 90, but sometimes I can play it really well so I am kinda lost lmao
Very Useful for Me. Thanks Bernth!
Day 1 90bpm
Was too lazy to post daily but i wasnt too lazy to practice:))
Day 45(approximately) challenge completed!
What’s interesting is that even though i can now do 140bpm comfortably with this exercise, im stuck at around 110-120 with other exercises where there are also string transitions. I think my weakness could be a strong connection between pinky and ring finger, and also a floating pinky :)
Stopped for a break at level 3 - 70bpm on sept 4 2022 to eat! I am going to move on to the next vid in my list now too
Well I totally watched it all the way to the end, that was hella hard.
5-25-22 day one. Learning the workout pattern.
April 28: Struggling with 90bpm, got 80 done
April 29: Got 90 done, working on 100
April 30: Got 100, still continuing
May 2: Managed 110 and going still
May 3: Keeping up with 120 mostly but far from perfect
May 5: Close to 120
May 6: Got 120, however not perfect
It's been a while since I last watch your vids Bernth, but i don't i have thanked you yet though. For some reasons youtube recommended me to you, and honestly all your technique exercises help me polish my skills and for that, thank you very much. For now though, i think i'll focus on familiarizing the pattern first, then tomorrow i'll practice allong the vid :>>
This feels like one of those exercises that’s gonna end up a hit song like sweet child of mine lol
Okay a year later I’m actually gonna try this lol, I had just been playing for 5 months at that point. So starting today, 110. Rn 120 sucks rn
01.01.22
-Pattern verinnerlicht
-Level 5 (90 BPM) ziemlich solide geschafft. Für heute erstmal feierabend.
Danke
9/25
80bpm
Love your tutorials brother. Been subbed for awhile and tell everyone about your awesomeness!
You're on fire sir! Justin time for me with this alternate picking workout. 😎 Been using you warm up and practice routines - great stuff. Many thanks Bernth!
Excellent!!! I love watching your videos!!!
Day 1: 80 bpm, hard to get the pattern down to memory, if i increase my tempo I mess up the pattern
Day 2: 90 bpm goes easily, still some mistakes at 100bpm
Day 7: 110bpm goes pretty smoothly, I can play through 120 with mistakes
Day 1: I can do 50 BPM downpicking, alt picking is harder without tension in muscles, so alt is 40 BPM.
Day 21: I practiced alt picking with other exercises and when I tried this one again, by the end of the day I could do 70 BPM (80 BPM too but that was sloppy compared to 70).
Thanks! Cool exsersise! Awesome for guitar players on the stage! Dear Bernth, is it hard for you make some lesson about how to correctly play guitar on the stage standing? When guitar set down?
started 8/7 - 70 bpm
8/8 - 80 bpm
8/9 - 90 bpm, a lil messy, but I hit all the notes
8/13 - 90 bpm, not faster yet, but playing is getting much cleaner overall
8/15 - 90 bpm, almost had 100, just a teeny bit slow
8/25 - 100 bpm - finally clean enough to hear all the notes
8/29 - 100 bpm, still cleaning up 100 a bit
9/2 - 100 bpm, 110 is sooo close
9/7 - 110 bpm, still a bit messy, but finally keeping up
9/15 - 90 bpm after 3 day break
9/27 - still around 110, 120 getting a bit clearer
9/30 - 120 bpm finally came together!! 130 still can't hear open notes
