    You’re such a cool and genuine dude, Dom. Just watched one of your EP unboxing vids where Jeff from EP sent you the little, what looked like, nep keychains and your reaction was so sweet and genuine. Thanks for the videos man. I love watching them.

    That's awesome Dom! I'm loving seeing the progression of my Ventricosa X Lowi, each new pitcher is looking awesome. Truncata hybrid looks fantastic!!! Love the spaciousness and build of the greenhouse, would love to see more of the build sometime! I'd love to know more about that humidity wall also and the idea behind it?

    Do you think you could do a video on the best Nepenthes to keep indoors in normal home conditions, ie. relatively low humidity, stable temperatures ect.?

    • @monke1919
      @monke1919 2 роки тому

      All nepenthes need high humidity to make pitchers

    • @Gilbolas
      @Gilbolas 2 роки тому +2

      @@monke1919 far from all. The hardy "hardware store" hybrids will pitcher fine in windowsill conditions. I guess many hybrids will do okay, and pitcher, after some acclimatization.

      I have mine indoors and use the tray/egg crate method. Mine do great! Wouldn't recommend a lowland indoors but highland and intermediate do pretty well.

      It's a good suggestion, there's a channel called windowsill nepenthes ran by a guy called remy, have a look there for ideas. As for myself I'm new to the hobby, coming up to a year now and I have a ventricosa x talangensis and a truncata both growing well on my windowsill

    Wowww congratulations for your fantastic collection, I have been following you for a very long time and I would like to know if some specimens are on sale even as rooted cuttings and if you send them to the Canary Islands .... It would be a dream to be able to acquire some specimens of your choice to be able to grow them here. I hope for your positive response. A hug from the Canaries

    Love these videos! I can’t get enough of these incredible pitchers. I only have 5 nepenthes and they’re all common but I still love them. I took some cuttings last week from one and am really hoping I did everything correctly and get a few more plants. Wish me luck. Can’t wait for the next video.

    Is it normal to find a sticky substance coming from the center of the plant? (Where the leaves grow from).

    Hi! I would love for some advice from you concerning new pitchers
    I have had a N. Alata (at least it was sold under this name) for around 8 months now, and as my first one I had (and still do) to learn quite a bit
    It had just under a dozen pitchers at the beginning; now a few have either dried out or died, and I have just 6 of them
    During the end of last fall, winter and spring up until now it vined and grew a lot of leaves; there are approximately 30 new ones (with a tendril etc), and I have two plantlets at the bottom and 3 growth points in total I believe
    How long does it normally take for pitchers to develop and form, from the moment a leaf has been put out? I've had zero new pitchers from those leaves yet... But the foliage is nice and green with no signs of fungus or anything, so I think the plant is happy
    While the humidity might have dropped a few times during winter at around 45/50% minimum (only just a couple times and not for long though), it is since april above 60% at all times and averaging at around 68/70%
    It also gets ample light as it is under a skylight, with approximately 4 or 5 hours of direct sun around noon and really bright indirect light the rest of the day
    Because of the humidity drops I believe, a couple tendril seemingly failed to produce a pitchers, so I cut the tendril and left the leaves
    But on the vast majority of the other ones, the tendrils have started to form a "loop" and I'm pretty sure the end part of the tendril became a bit thicker
    But it is taking a lot of time I feel like... I don't know what else I could do differently, so any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    • @redleafexotics4722
      @redleafexotics4722  3 роки тому +1

      Hey there,
      Sounds like ventrata:) the tendrils that start to coil are looking for something to wrap around. The plants take some time to settle. You might also want to try brightening the light and possible adding a little organic fish/seaweed fert to the soil 1 x per month during the growing season. Sometimes they need a boost. Be sure to use 1/4 the recommended strength. Good luck!

    Hey Dom, I separated basals that already got roots from my N. graciliflora and I accidentally girdled the stem of one of them. It already has a nice root system but I accidentally exposed a part of its stem partially. I already put it in 50/50 sphagnum and perlite soil. Do you think the basal will survive?

    • @redleafexotics4722
      @redleafexotics4722  3 роки тому +1

    Hi. I'm in the UK and you've inspired my addiction to carnivorous plants with your videos. Are all these nepenthes possible to grow in the UK? I've got some smaller pitcher nepenthes, but large spectacular ones seem to be impossible to find here in the UK.

    Are the complex hybrids sterile? I’ve always wondered that with horticulture bc I always thought different species could produce offspring together, but that they would be sterile (ie mules). Is that how it works with the plants as well? Or are they all the same species and we just name them differently?

      Plants do a lot of funky stuff when it comes to breeding. Look up polyploidy, plants can have like 10 sets of chromosomes in some cases, it's crazy. I don't know if that's happening with these hybrids, but it's just one example of how plants are very different to animals when it comes to breeding.
