  • In this video I will attempt to ride a black diamond rated trail on my Luna X1 Enduro electric mountain bike. This trail is called the Shark Ridge Trail and it is located near Olympia Sports Park in the Southern Highlands community in Las Vegas Nevada. The Shark Ridge trail Shark Ridge Trail is a 6.7 mile (round trip), moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Las Vegas, Nevada that offers the chance to see wildlife and amazing views of the Las Vegas valley. This is my 3rd attempt at riding this trail. On the first attempt, I was unable to find the correct trail. On the second attempt a large cactus punctured my front tire. Can I make it the full 3.35 miles on the third attempt? Watch and see...

    THE BIKE RIDEZ STORY & MISSION :
    This is a channel about electric mountain bike riding for regular people. We are not hardcore mountain bike riders. If you are looking to see trail videos where the riders drop off 5,000 ft mountains at 45° angles you are in the wrong place (at least for now). We are full-time professionals who live in Henderson Nevada which is about 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. Most of the videos you will see on this channel feature bike trails around the Las Vegas valley.
    Although we thoroughly love riding our e-mountain bikes for exercise and adventure, bike riding is our primary form of meditation and stress relief. Our bike rides allow for a few hours without our laptops, and without our phones where we can stay focused on being in the moment. Just like meditation and yoga, when we bike ride, we focus on our breathing, we push our bodies to feel more, and, we get to see some of the most spectacular scenic landscapes, sunsets and wildlife that the Mojave dessert has to offer.
    Whether you are a Las Vegas local or visiting from any where in the world, our hope is that with these videos we will encourage you to take advantage of the extensive Nevada bike trail system.
    Are you ready?

      Thank you so much! It takes sooooo many hours to put together a 5-10 minute video. I would have quit a long time ago if it wasn't for viewers like you! I really appreciate your support!

    Cool adventure... I'm looking at Luna, Frey and Sonders for a mid drive EMTB. They all have great looking / spec'ed bikes. It will probably come down to $$$ because it's a toss up on everything else.

      It was between the Luna X1 and the Frey when I ordered. The deciding factor had to do with customer service. If something breaks on the Frey you're stuck sending it back to China and waiting for ever. In my case, I blew the gear in the Bafang mid drive. It was still under warrantee. I shipped it back to Luna in California, and they fixed it, and sent it back, and I was back on the trails in 5 days from when it broke.

      @@BikeRidez good point. I think Sondors is located here too. Yeah Frey make some bad ass bikes. They make you pay through the nose too. Luna definitely has nice bikes too and decent price. Like with any of them catching them while they have stock.

    What did you do with the thorns that got stuck in your front tire? Those were serious!

    • @BikeRidez
      @BikeRidez  2 роки тому

      LOL! At that time I was not riding tubeless and did not have a repair kit on me. So, I pulled them out and hauled ass as fast as I could back down. I was only about 2 miles into the ride so I was able to make it off the mountain, but had to walk about a mile back to my car. Had I been riding tubeless, those thorns would have not been a problem. Stans Racing Sealer (the expensive version) would have closed those holes I think without plugging. I've recently hit another cactus when I was like 8 miles up (coming down) and the thorn was so big that I had to plug it though...

      It something I bought off eBay many years ago. Although extremely bright, the battery backs kept dying after a 8 months. After 4 replacements on 2 bikes, I finally tossed it and bought something else. I would not recommend it if you see it.

    A little constructive criticism.....ALWAYS wear gloves, especially in a rocky location. Until you get a lot more seat time...stay away from trails above your capabilities. Novices shouldn't be riding expert trails. You'll have more fun & gain more skills riding trails that you don't have to walk so much.
    I see you had an empty water bottle cage. You're riding in the Nevada desert in June. Yes, you probably (hopefully) have a Camelback, but what happens if you have to walk back to your car? ALWAYS...carry enough water for an emergency.

      Hi Joe.: I always wear gloves: it just so happens that two days before one of my gloves blew off a 209 ft canyon wall when I was shooting the rail road tunnel trail video: A new pair of new gloves was on its way.
      Empty water cage - so I put a frozen water bottle in the cage the previous day and the cold and the high temp + the swollen bottle caused the cage to break where the strap attached. The bottle kept moving around so I put it in my backpack: I also had a second bottle in my bag too.

    Dude.....unless you don't value your hands....you should be sporting gloves!

    • @BikeRidez
      @BikeRidez  2 роки тому +1

      Lol - someone commented about that already.. I always where gloves. It just so happened that the day before this ride, one of my gloves blew off a cliff at near Bootleg Canyon and it was not retrievable. I got new gloves a few days later. But thanks for your concern!

      @@BikeRidez I see people all the time on Motorcycles, not wearing gloves, I guess they never even crashed a Bicycle...During an accident, the FIRST you do is stick out your hands to break the fall as you watch pieces of your hand go flying by....I'm sorry to read one yours got blown off a cliff...good gloves are a lot of dough....I'm sure you went out and got another pair! Cheers!

    • @BikeRidez
      @BikeRidez  2 роки тому

      You are absolutely right. hands are first thing to break the fall. I'm also now wearing knee pads all the time after a bad fall I took a few weeks ago. I'm going to order elbow pads too... I'm too old to risk getting any bad injuries that could be avoided with a small amount of safety gear!

    • @Magoo71
      @Magoo71 2 роки тому

      @@BikeRidez Well I agree with you about wearing protection...those trails you ride look really rocky and bailing on those damn things could be painful...I just turned 70 so I am all to aware of how long injuries take to heal! I just got a total shoulder replacement on my Rt shoulder in early December '20 and I'm still rehabbing it! I'm telling myself that the bike will just help my therapy progress! ;-). I started waterskiing when I was 6 or 7, my parents competed so my brother and I started young. Then Football, Motocross, Snow Skiing, and Mt Bike Racing...and it seems everyone of those can result in a "digger" that seems to love to use one of your shoulders for a rudder. So I had to haver mine replaced since I lost a 1/4" of bone off of my Ball/socket joint. So I guess the Doc cot most of it off and replaced it with Titanium/Some type of steel and a piece of polymer to rub on ! Anyway sorry for the long-splanation...but needless to say, looking forward to a new ride!
