Farewell 4Runner, Hello Jeep Wrangler

- After more than 18 years I've had enough of the constant little nagging issues, along with the frame rot, on my '04 4Runner. So I have a mixed reaction that she's gone to a new home. I do however get to start over with something a little different as my new family hauler. Hopefully not driving it before buying it doesn't leave me living in a van down by the river.

10 years old Jeep. Good luck with that. I would rather keep the 4-Runner for a while at least.
I enjoy your channel. Personally I would have purchased another Toyota. That's all I drive.
All cars have issues. the 2012 Jeep main issues are;
1)Electrical issues
2) Engine issues
3) AC and heater issues
I hope it works out for you.
My daughter wanted a Jeep because she thought they were "cool" until she drove one. she says... Too much road noise and a really rough ride. What did she expect from a Jeep....???
You won’t have that long, their junk! Death trap! I love your channel!
I bought a set of 5, 17" Wrangler wheels at an online auction for (I swear), 28 bucks. These were 1000 mile takeoffs, and looked new. They sat in my garage for a year, before I finally sold them on Marketplace for 125 bucks. You're right, there's a million of them out there.
Good afternoon sir from Morocco ❤ i hope you have a lovely day ^-^ God bless you sir
16,000 for that? WHAT? Those no way! Way to much!! Good luck with that!!
Cars I bought 2.5 years ago for $1500 are going for $6000 now. Crazy town.
Hi Chris, excellent choice in choosing the Jeep. They are lots of fun. You can make it uniquely yours.
I wish you all the best with the Wrangler Chris.
Glad you were able to get a deal done on the 4 runner your comfortable with. And as you know...happy wife = happy life!
Thanks man and sooo true about the Happy Wife thing. Hopefully she'll enjoy this Jeep for a while.
That's why I got rid of my 2000 Nissan Maxima with 350,000 kms in 2013. It was just rotting from rust everywhere from underneath, to the rear quarter panels and around the windshield that water would leak in. It was perfect mechanically though. That 3.0 V6 motor was one of the best made and it was super smooth, the transmission shifted smooth and everything worked.
I like the wheels and bumper. To each his own 😆
Quite a step down
Good luck with the Jeep. What a HUGE difference from the 4runner!!!! Also glad to see a new post.
Welcome to the Jeep family.
I'm a Jeep guy. You can easily sell the mods (bumper, wheels, lights) to cover the cost of returning it to stock. Getting rid of that heavy winch bumper and going back to stock or a tube bumper will do wonders for the handling and fuel economy. I can tell you now that that fastback top blocks visibility and limits space. I'd go hard top with insulation, but I think this is from when not every Wrangler was wired for a hardtop. There is a connector by the tailgate. The hard top is quieter, better insulated, and more secure. Soft tops flap and leak. If you put on a new soft top, go with Bestop. It's easy to install at home. Quadratec is the biggest Jeep parts catalog and they have a warehouse near West Chester. The first mod I'd do is get rid of the Chineseium LED headlights and get genuine Trucklite or JW Speaker lights, or Cibie E-code 7" if you want to go back to halogen. You get what you pay for with LED headlights.
Jeeps are loud, slow, bouncy, and don't handle well. The interior is cramped and made of rental car plastic. I hope you like it but it's not for everyone. If you have the Pentastar 3.6 it's a pretty good if unremarkable engine and parts are readily available. Not many cars have an owner community like Jeep. They're easy to work on. You have a JK Wrangler, for future reference.
@BW knows the Wrangler well!! Perfect comment!
Great job - good luck - can’t wait to hear more about what you do with it !!
If only that some way to deal with all that rust on the under carriage. You know, like some way to rinse off all that road salt on a regular basis, LIKE A CAR WASH!
All the Rusty areas could have repaired and before they were done, there's Rust inhibitor that could have been sprayed inside the frame made by Eastwood. The frames on the newer jeeps are not known for their Strength it won't take much to Bend it so watch how it's driven, the Toyota would have lasted far longer than the jeep. I'm sorry if I upset you it's just the reality.
Very cool, I never owned one but it is on my bucket list. Good luck with it, can't wait to see what you do with it.
You'll have fun with that! Nice find!
Looking forward to seeing what you do
Check the Jeeps frame and have it protected. Leave the front bumper on it…that appears to be the best upgrade on the vehicle. Ditch the rims and keep the soft top…find a hardtop if your heart desires. Hope your Wife likes it and it’s not a dud.
In UE price's for used cars are crazy too.😉
Congratulations with the Jeep good luck they need a lot of attention anyways I bought A04 2004 I should say Toyota forerunner The 103 K on the clock everything has been done to it even when we had the frame replaced for 2600 bucks it's a beautiful truck and I might be off in it pretty soon own but for $2600 everything done to it it's worth it even the timing belts are done
It's a Jeep thing! Enjoy the new ride!!
Love those rims. Plane jane
Jeep - Just Empty Every Pocket. But, they can be fun.
Enjoy! My friend
1:15 Corvair! Yeah, baby!
Haha, yeah, that's my Corsair and that should be next weeks video too!
@@hullinger Can't wait!
Glad to see you back...congratulations...i hope you make many videos with your new awesome car....i have ordered in January in Germany a new "little VW"...good price for the old car...but corona and war....nobody know when the car get produced.....
I'm more Toyota than I am Jeep, but you've made a good decision here. With a bit of effort, the Wrangler will look really good once you've put it back to standard, and you may even make a small profit selling the aftermarket parts you take off. Definitely fit a hardtop though. Soft tops just don't do it for me on the 4 door models, and it will be a lot more secure, especially if your wife does a lot of city miles. Overall, a cool, interesting vehicle, and a great new experience. Fantastic new rig.
Thanks man for checking out the 4Runner video. And I'm with you in that I much rather prefer a Toyota over a Jeep, but that poor 4Runner was about to be worthless, or at best, needed some expensive repair work just to keep it from becoming worthless. Regardless, and just like you said, I already got a hardtop and OEM wheels and it literally just transformed the Jeep back to something respectable.
The crown vic would of been your forever ride.
Some times when rust comes it can be bad
You should tag Scotty Kilmer on this video. I know he swears by toyotas and some can last a while but they are not without flaws. That's the same kind of rust I had on my SSV expedition I got rid of in 2020
What was the deal with the Corvair that we got only a glimpse of?
Hopefully you have good luck, on most of the jeeps I've towed are junk Ever since the French bought out jeep and changed the motors they have been junk And electrical issues. Hopefully you do better
Well you got screwed
Cool you found a neat ride! I can not help telling you, that rotted frame
Would not pass Inspection here in rusty NY. It seems to be a good time to part with an old friend. Ross
That's exactly my thoughts with that 4Runner. It was only a matter of time before it becomes worthless so now was the best time to part with it. If course I could have pumped a bunch of money into it but it wouldn't have increased the value.
Awesome
Will you please report back to us how horrible it is to drive a Wrangler every day?
Cool 😀
I say go back to stock. I like those 4 runners but they always rust
Next video. Getting rid of the Jeep. 😁
nothing lasts forever.
what about the toyota next to your jeep?
carvana would have taken it
there buying everything….
Shoulda bought the 5th gen Runner
That Rust doesn't happen in Tennessee. Salt ... (Best purchase deal is on lease return vehicles.) *I believe cost are quite higher for you guys, than they are here.*
6000.00 trade in sounds good, but he will try to get you on the difference. You know the Buying Rules, sell the car to a person, pay cash, but do not tell them that until you have agreed to a price. They like to get ya on Financing.
If you need to Finance, do it through your Bank or other Lender at a safe rate.
Consumer Guide has the "How to purchase Guide"
They are Sharks, I don't know why car dealerships and cell phone companies are allowed to do this to people. The Public is not skilled at the game. It is awful.
I learned early by using Consumer Guide and I was an ethical Sales VP for a major Corp. Those guys give Sales a bad name.
Sharks and Snakes.
Hope it works out for you but Jeep are not reliable, they suffer from many AC/heater issues, problems with the engines, and dont even get me started on how bad the electrical systems are.
if it was me id of just stuck with toyota
I hear ya on the "nagging" stuff....I've had my 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited since new and it's been great, but it has NOT done that "nagging replacement" stuff. Fingers crossed, it doesn't start to...and yeah, I'm not looking forward to the water pump someday soon (2.7L v6, 120k mi). It's also not the DD, which is a 2015 Lexus RX350. Not so sure the Wrangler is the right choice for a DD, Pentastar 3.6? But with a hard top added and new wheels...sure, it could go for many years. Look forward to seeing how you change it up!
Oh one more thing...I'm in Dallas, not Delaware...so rust for me, isn't an issue (garage too of course).
Why not just call it maintenance and wing a water pump in it now. When they go bad, they have a tendency to leak antifreeze into the engine and causing failure.
A lot of bucks without a spare tire...
If you drive a lot there is no way your getting a total 18 years out of that Jeep like your Toyota. I bet the Toyota will outlast the Jeep if it doesn’t rust to nothing.

The steel used in todays cars is watered down garbage it’s a shame
No it is not. Modern steel with cars is galvanized where as in many years past it was not. You need to look up;
Automotive Steel Processing: AHSS and Galvanized Steel
This started in the 80s. The key to minimizing rust is frequent washing and waxing. Keeping the underside washed down after exposure to what ever solution a state puts on the road to melt snow & ice. Here in Iowa most car washes can wash the underside of your car. IF you live in a state where these corrosive solutions are upon the road your car is more than likely going to get some form of corrosion. If you keep your car washed and waxed the corrosion should be very minor.
That Jeep isn't worth more than $7500.
U look wore out u look very very tired
4runner for a Wrangler, eww
The toyota is wasy better but yours is a money pit... the Jeep is a gas guzzler and money pit too lol
