I own a stock original paint 1999 Heritage Springer. Had to sell my (due to health reasons) 1939 sock restored Knucklehead rode it for over a decade. I love the fact they were 60 years apart.
I had a 87 Heritage I changed up a bit to be more like a Fat Boy. Great bike. I have a 95 Road King now I love riding, can't get away from the Evo motors! Those are two great bikes there Billy, the same but also very different! Love your videos, keep them coming!
I had a 1988 FLSTC Heritage Softail. It was pretty weak in stock form, but with a few modifications, they'd really wake up. I put MC PowerArc single fire ignition Crane 316-2 grind, advanced 4 degrees S&S E carb, with a Turnderjet & 100 Mikuni jet Python II pipes Real thin copper head gaskets to bump the compression about a half a point Went from a 130 mm rear tire to a 150, had to adjust (offset) the laces to make it fit the belt though With those minimal changes it would make 80 Rear Wheel Horsepower, opposed to the rated 35 hp stock. It would turn a 8.6 1/8 at 78mph & a 13.7 1/4 mile at 98mph It's too bad Python is not longer in business or making those pipes, as they made great torque. I really miss that bike, sold it to raise my kids. Root beer & Cream were beautiful colors.
Always great to see your videos. I've been a fan since I was 16. I'm often looking at Evos and TC88's. My 04 Electra Glide is my daily machine. My chopper build needs some whiskey bars.
Bought my 1st EVO-1991 FXRS-CONV, LowRider Convertible, for $3.5k with 32k miles a couple of months ago. The swinger is cool, but I dig the ? floor boards.
I like both bikes. it's a nice comparison, but the sound of yours with that snappy sound really gets my attention. I have an 84 wideglide that i bought new, which is the last of the Shovelhead. And have my dad's 84 soft tail, which is the EVO motor, with some small differences for the same year and style of bike. Thanks for the comparison, and keep up the great and informative videos. Thanks again.
I have a 1997 Fatboy with the same colors but was repainted with slightly different scheme. All stock 6500 original miles. Just changing the air cleaner to DK customs 7 spoke with external breather . Thanks for the video Billy. Awesome bikes and love what you’re doing to yours.
They’re such great bikes. Just a cam & carb rejet makes an enormous difference, if you’re willing to install 9:1 pistons, you can gain 20hp. But stock will bring a smile
I still ride my 1986 FXST for over 30 years now, I did the EV27 cam Mikuni hsr42 carb and a Hooker 2 into one exhaust in the mid 1990s I will never sell that bike they will have to bury me with it. I have also a 2017 Ultra for now that is the best riding bike I have ever owned but someday I want to get the Hertage Softail 2020 or newer because that ultra is just so damn heavy and I do not travel anymore on it. Great video, Thanks for being part of our lives and being the greatest motorcycle mechanic builder ever.
That is a really nice comment, and I am grateful for your thoughts. I sold my Bad Boy to make space for a new road Glide ST. The RGST is a great motorcycle for traveling, but an elephant in traffic. I regret selling the Bad Boy, but replaced it with this Fat Boy. A piece of solid advice is to install higher compression pistons. My Bad Boy had EV27 with 9.5:1 pistons & 2-into-1 exhaust, and it was considerably faster than expected because of the one-point bump in compression. It makes a big difference. I loved those Hooker exhaust when they came out, glad you still have yours.
My wife’s parents have been really good to me. And, they loan me the Fat Boy whenever I’m in town without a bike. I’d work for free if I had a way to cover my bills. Still love motorcycles after all these decades and change
I really dig your style. Your Fat Boy looks like something I would ride. I have a 1991 Heritage that I stripped down and I love it...I just can't get into the new Harley Street Glides and baggers you see everywhere. I'll take an older softail over all of them.
I love my '98 FXDWG with an ev27 cam and screamin chicken exhaust. I did put some Progressive 444 shocks on it for a much better ride. I bought 3 years ago from the estate of friend after he passed. It just turned 20K miles.
dream machine. The evo fatboy is bike I've always wanted and I appreciate the video you've put out here Billy because you show how an average guy can customize these bikes without radically changing the essence of it or breaking the bank
I love my 1998 Fat Boy with the best motor Harley ever made in my opinion. Ole Bullet proof as they call it or the motor that saved Harley.. Great video Billy and 2 beautiful Fat Boys..
I still own a Fat Boy 1998 with a complete Street Stalker Kit and fat spoke wheels. Had an M8 Softail Fat Bob for 2 years, but sold that one. Keep it up! Love to see Legends!
@13: 57 The side view you showed earlier in the video. You could see a little difference in the height. BUT, this front view REALLY shows a big difference...
Another great video. I own a 96 Fatboy that I bought new. I definitely intend making some changes to it based on your advice. Have a great Christmas Peace and Love
I remember travelling south of the border in 1996 on my FLSTF and people in the states asking me how I got one so fast. They were on the showroom floor here in Canada.
I dig the '97 so much. That 2 tone black and silver is such a nice scheme. The bars, the seat, and the smoked out headlight make the bike for me. Definitely looks better lowered, but IDK how much performance that costs. Is there a B.L. customized TC RK video? You do such a good job with your content. Thanks!
Nice stuff Bill!! I purchased a 99 Indian in sock form, and had in mind from the start to lower, lighten, and modify tins. As well as install an aftermarket saddle. Shortly after I got it I had a near fatal accident on one of my twin brothers bikes on a bike vacation with him and a bunch of friends we ride with. And I'm just getting back to a near normal life. I still have to go through vision therapy to get cleared to drive again. I've followed you since I watched Indian Larry and you on TV. Your statement regarding the scarcity of stock older bikes had me 2nd guessing messing with mine.. but I'm thinking I'll press on with my idea, in a way that can't be undone. Thanks for posting rides and mods.
That Boyds swingarm is cool! I wish I would have grabbed one of the spun aluminum wheels they had for softails back in the day. I will prob go to spoke on my 91 fxstc eventually
Some of these older bikes that have remained stock are basically "customs" because most people modify their bikes !. You just don't see many unmolested (early) stock bikes anymore...
I was shocked to hear the 87 had the original tires on it. Billy, are original tires of that age still reliably safe? Are there alot of cracks in the rubber. Is that a concern?
Original tires 30 years old w 20k miles? My original rear on the fatboy lasted half that and was to the belts. Love the floorboards they are absolutely sick. Would love a set on one of the bikes. Minus that kick a swingarm my 08 is pretty muck like your 99 other than having loud and useless big radius exhaust i thought was cool in 08 :) i also raised my handlebars w wide n fat mini apes to 2 inches below shoulder. But im tall so they look normal.
Howdy, What is the 2 into 1 pipe your running. I need something that will fit on my Evo 4 speed kick start in a Paughco rigid frame. Your tool box is a nice little touch. Thanks
Both gorgeous bikes. I like that blue/turquoise vintage paint scheme. On yours, did you ever do a video on the head protection on the rear pipe bend? what's it made of?
Howdy Mr. Lane. The 99 is looking sweet. Sad to hear about you selling your Bad Boy. I've been on a quest for 2 years now for a 23" on my 91 Springer. But in the meantime, I have been thinking about a Fat Boy rim up front. Once I repair my Speedo and cable again, would the Fat Boy rim accept my 21" speedometer drive unit?

That aqua colored Fatboy looks kinda odd with that crash bar on it but to each his own i guess. I had a couple from the old days. Hope to start making more soon. I’m not a fan of the aluminum discs, either. I’m going to change the wheels on the 99 soon
@@BillyLaneChoppers Than the kick stand need to cut shorter if not the bike seat up right, easy to fall, if lower only 1 end no need to do so, I use to change the outlook of chopper, and I always use the 21 inches spoke rm for the front, some rise up and some slam down, to have old school choppers look, why not you change the front rim to 21 inches spoke rime and maintain the height, but the front end of your fatboy may be a problem if you want to have a slam down look
Billy if you sell the Fatboy I’ll take it I would’ve bought the bad boy too remember me I asked you for a Cardington swingarm for my fat boy I told you about my cancer that I came down with Christmas of 2023
Can, afford to lower my bikes a bit, and have done they do look better, but take away from performance on cornering where I live the roads have ramps to stop cars speeding etc so one as loe as Billys , would be out of the question. destroy the frame and..loos the bottom of the engine
The Evo Fatboy has always been my favorite Harley, ever since watching T2 on the Big Screen, I just had to have one!
I always enjoy you sharing your knowledge and your video presentation.
Those ole' Evo's had the signature sound down pat... Love that steady lope at idle.
I own a stock original paint 1999 Heritage Springer. Had to sell my (due to health reasons) 1939 sock restored Knucklehead rode it for over a decade. I love the fact they were 60 years apart.
Can’t believe you sold the bad boy without letting me know!🤣🤣🤣
Much respect to you my man, thank you for all the “secrets” you giving out🤙🏽

I had a 1988 FLSTC Heritage Softail. It was pretty weak in stock form, but with a few modifications, they'd really wake up.
I put MC PowerArc single fire ignition
Crane 316-2 grind, advanced 4 degrees
S&S E carb, with a Turnderjet & 100 Mikuni jet
Python II pipes
Real thin copper head gaskets to bump the compression about a half a point

awesome video. Love my 89 i bought from Molinar Harley in Hammond Indiana in 1989.
There aren't 89 fatboys though, what did ya get a Softail? I'm from Indiana but never been to that dealer. I need to go check it out someday
Ive been riding my 2001 roadking classic for over 20 years 86,000 miles ,cam chain tensioner main problem I've had ,that's it. I dig your 99 fat boy.

It Definitely is!! Love what you are doing Billy.. ❤ from Amsterdam
Great looking bikes 👍
And the 1948 looks awesome as well 💪 !
I'm still riding a 99 EGC love it
your big twin flatty would be my sickle of choice keep up the videos HAPPY TRAILS
Love what you do, looking forward to see you do a heritage evo
Some subtle changes go a long way. Well done.
Excellent video Billy. I will never sell my 99 Fat Boy, your 99 Fat Boy is one very cool bike. Ride safe, Cheers
Love those speedster bars!
I was wondering where the bad boy was! Never thought you’d sell it!
I thought the same thing! Really liked what he did with that one. I never cared for the stock look of those
great presentation and information ,cheers bra from down under
@13: 57 The side view you showed earlier in the video. You could see a little difference in the height. BUT, this front view REALLY shows a big difference...
those whitewalls are dope, too bad they dont offer that option for modern fat boys. been looking online, no luck for a 2023 fat boy
Another great video.

I definitely intend making some changes to it based on your advice.
Have a great Christmas

What a cool sound.
The Fatboy is a work of art my friend 💪🔥🐐GOAT 🐐🔥💪
Thank you, I really like it
Evo is a great engine, Fat Boy is a great bike. Really good work. Hello from Lithuania!
I need that exhaust for my 98 Softail Custom!!!

There both very beautiful too!!

Great video! I love the Hot Rod bike. Harley should be doing consulting with you!
Do you sell those exhaust systems?
Happy Holidays Mr. Billy🙂
Awesome bikes Billy, but I love my '05 Fatboy 😂
Thanks Billy 🇺🇸
Thank you for watching
Another great video 👍👍
My ,1999 heritage Evo runs cooler than any other motorcycle that Ive ever owned. It is almost like having a water cooled bike.
Just a light rich fuel mixture does a world of help to cool an EVO. Sure, not as beautiful as a Knuck, but we hardly ever need to put a wrench to them
I was shocked to hear the 87 had the original tires on it. Billy, are original tires of that age still reliably safe? Are there alot of cracks in the rubber. Is that a concern?
Damn they sound badass!!
YOU SOLD THE BAD BOY!!!!! Ugggg
Wish I was the buyer of that one!
Evo guy till the day I die, yes a TC and M8 can score great dyno numbers. With that being said nothing will beat the reliability of an Evo period .

I didn’t do a video on that heat shield. It’s from a take-off Harley Road King dual exhaust, I just trimmed it some to fit well

Great video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it

When are you going to talk about monster garage Billy?
I'm working on a series of videos called The History of Choppers Inc. I'm going to address Monster Garage in that series, because it was such a tipping point in my career
@BillyLaneChoppers That's awesome I'm looking forward to seeing that.
Nice bike
stocker idles like its playing "for whom the bell tolls" they really dont make em like they used to.
But looks cleaner without. 😊
It’s good for toting shit around though. The seat and sissy bar. I can strap shit to them.
Where does a guy find those choppers inc points covers and such? Solid wheels arent my fav but both boys are perfect otherwise!
I had a couple from the old days. Hope to start making more soon. I’m not a fan of the aluminum discs, either. I’m going to change the wheels on the 99 soon
@BillyLaneChoppers You should make some. They would sellout. I'd definitely buy evo covers. The old classic style would be my preference.
