The crazy thing about OpTic last year is what they didn't accomplish. By all accounts they had an amazing season, that was cemented by winning champs. But, they were sneaky dominate outside of major 4 and playing FaZe. Major 4 was a real team collapse; no excuse there. However, if OpTic could have figured out how to beat FaZe, they probably would have had the best CDL season ever (debatable with FaZe CW). At major 1, they finished 3rd with their only losses being to FaZe. At major 2, they lost in grand finals to FaZe. They win major 3. Collapse at major 4. Win champs. Get 3rd at ESWC with their only loss coming at the hands of FaZe. FaZe single-handedly cost OpTic two more wins, and a 2nd place finish at major 1. Crazy stuff. The battles between the top 3 this year should be epic.
There was also a stat that they won 90 something % of their hard points last season if you remove the faze losses. Truly remarkable that they nearly did not lose 2/5ths of the played game modes against any team all year. If you were a fantasy story writer their 3rd, 2nd, 1st, last, 1st would be a storybook ending. But it is interesting that they easily handled NY/Ultra and couldn't beat faze, meanwhile ultra handled faze and couldn't beat the other 2.
@@BackupBurnereh looking at some of Ben's spreadsheets as he quickly pans thru them I could be misremembering. Perhaps the stat was "only lost 2 hardpoints if you take out major 4 and faze losses" but don't quote me, I couldn't find the tweet where I originally saw it 😓
@@fonzz217idk bout you but those events suck ass no fans, shit setup, idc how you place them at that event, that setting has to go! Everyone that’s a fan knows this
@@Priceyy97but they also had a stretch where they were arguably the worst team. Faze didn’t have a series of matches like that and also won two tournaments (even if single elimination is fugaze), so I think they’ve got a better case.
Always like the content Ben J but the rise and drop in volume cause of you moving away from the mic while talking is starting to check me. Keep the mic same distance away the whole time my guy!
People be doubting OpTic for no reason. They are the only team in the league who can win maps while getting out slayed their teamwork and cohesion is insane. Also when it's clicking their ceiling is absolutely insane shotzzy becomes unstoppable.
I think the key in terms of complacency will be Dashy and Kenny. Shotzzy has always been a grinder/nerd and I think he really just loves playing and practice. And I think pred just hates losing so much that his ego will not let him stay complacent. Dashy is my biggest it factor in that sense. And then I remember Ken after they won in vanguard was always blaming their games on “online cheese” so I think most likely dashy and Kenny will be the key for optic
Optic need the drum at champs this year. I feel like their win was extremely lucky and their chances were boosted by having a home champs. Happy to be proved wrong but I feel like Dashy and Predator may have taken their feet off the gas this year.
They said they were slamming faze in their scrims leading upto champs and knew they were going to win... doesn't sound lucky to me. They were just the best team at champs end of
Y’all just be sayin’ ANYTHING. LMFAO, wtf??? They comfortably beat LAG (a team that improved on LAN), iced out against a great LAT team, iced out against NYSL (a T4 team), and then washed that same NYSL team in Grand Finals. Is the luck in the room with us?
Pred/dashy/Kenny are known for taking their foot off the gas for online league matches, but as we saw last year as long as there is fans in the venue Kenny/pred/dashy flip a switch to another level. Nothing lucky about it, although I do agree we could see some real slacking from optic online this year
Faze should have made a roster change, plain and simple. There was TWO generational superstars on the market (that were operating as a package deal in most cases). There is zero reason why a team that showed CLEAR weakness last year should have passed on one or both of hydra/scrap. Faze has SIGNIFICANT problems in their communications, abeezy is going rogue and comming inaccurately (several examples from champs alone), cellium is padding stats while contributing nothing to the teams coms/play calls. Simp/drazah have all the tools of players who can succeed in anything they do but without one of them making a significant sacrifice in gameplay to fill in the shortcomings of cell/abe faze will need a huge performance to beat sunday teams 🤷
Damn BenJ on a MJ 90s run with content lately
🔥 content. Keep it up, Ben J 🫡
My hot take is either Surge or LAG doesn’t make champs this season
