This is very helpful. We’re going to spain and portugal next month with our family of 5. So having reliable data is important. Mainly for WhatsApp and maps.

Hi Katie! Can you please provide me with more information on the ESIM card. We will be traveling up Barcelona and Italy in a couple of weeks and would love to hear about your experience with this. Thanks!!

I have used the Orange Holiday Zen 8GB eSim card from Orange Travel (travel.orange.com). It came with 8GB of data as well as a French phone number that included 30 minutes of phone calls and 200 texts for 14 days. You download the eSim card before you travel and then switch your sim settings when you land. I am planning on making a video on my eSim card experience, let me know me if you have any questions.

I bought a hotspot device off Amazon and bought a data package. No rental or mailing fees.

Renting allowed me to try it out first to see if that was the route I wanted to go for data. But I agree, purchasing a hotspot device and data package can be a more cost effective route in the long run. Thanks for the insight!

Hmmm... she did not mention anything about wifi calling...

You’re right! I completely left out wifi calling. You can use wifi calling with a mobile hotspot (if you turn that setting on in your phone). This will allow you to make and receive calls to your phone without using a VOIP app or using your phone provider’s cell plan. Thank you for pointing that out!

Ever check into Solis lite? Seems similar price except it's not a rental.

I had looked into it initially when I was researching mobile hotspots. I chose to rent instead of buy incase I didn’t want to continue using a mobile hotspot for future trips. Currently, I am trying out different eSIM cards while abroad.

Does anyone know of any good e-sim cards to use as a hotspot with the cellphone for Asia? I need to work with my computer .(Not China) For Singapore, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam. Thanks in advance

Yes, I have used Orange travel.orange.com) e-sim when I went to Germany last year, it can be used as a hot spot. I believe they have coverage is Asia. I plan on making an e-sim video soon.

Would it work on a cruise?

I don’t believe it will work on the ship, only on land once you docked. I have never taken a cruise, but here is an article from Travel WiFi saying that it doesn’t work on the ship:
