I could never put my hand on it, but on my days off from my part time job, I would watch, and just feel like SOMETHING was missing, besides a decent payoff, it just felt lacking after the adrenaline rushes of SHOP TIL YOU DROP and SHOPPING SPREE
You know, Small Talk would have been a better show, if it wasn't hamstrung in the first place. Yeah the show was quite cheap a thousand bucks (which at that time was beyond cheap at that point). Also It didn't help that they didn't just ease up one the one liners, to let the kids be kids. Even Bill Cullen knew to back off in Child's Play. The scheduling and pairing also didn't help either. This show would have survived, if Wait till you have kids wasn't a complete train wreck.
Talk about CHEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAPPPPP! Ever since Time Machine in 1985, Reg Grundy's luck in the States had been in decline and this show would be one of the final awful cherries on a sad sundae for Reg Grundy in the States.
Yes! “Small Talk” was the last game show that Reg Grundy did back in 1996. Both “$ale of the Century” and Hasbro’s “Scrabble” were the two biggest juggernauts of the 80’s for the company. Three year after they did two short-lived game shows like “Scattergories” and the brief revival of Hasbro’s “Scrabble” in 1993, Reg Grundy tried it one more time in 1996, and it makes it a slow death to the company. Since this show is owned by Fremantle, maybe “Small Talk” might considered to be going to Buzzr anytime soon.
@@GameShowGumbo There are a few of the older _Nostalgia Critic_ reviews where Doug Walker will do top five lists inside the reviews. After the number one item on the list, he calls out "Play me off, Paul!" This would be immediately followed up with a clip of Paul Shaffer and The CBS Orchestra playing Jjmi Hendrix's _All Along the Watchtower_ from an old _Late Show with David Letterman_ broadcast.
This looks like a poor kid's version of Hollywood Squares. Also, ew Wil Shriner. I didn't like him on That's My Dog either and I actually liked that show.
Much like Patrick Wayne, Wil Shriner is another son of a legend that could never shine his father's successful shoes. In the latter's case he is the son of Herb Shriner of Two For the Money fame.
If this show didn't play format mambo throughout the show, it would've been decent. Plus, it's a melding of Child's Play and Hollywood Squares. Btw i would've given them 5 or at least $10,000 in the bonus round. And this show was produced by Pearson (The guys behind Family Feud, Match Game and the bastardized 2001 revival of Card Sharks)???
As someone who actually did watch 'Small Talk' when it was originally broadcast (I was in my late teens at the time), I had the same question. As mentioned in the video, in case of a three-way tie after the third round, all three players would participate in the would-be bonus round, and each player would use his/her their respective button to randomly select a child interviewee. I seem to recall this only happening once during the entire 'Small Talk' run.
I remember watching Small Talk when I was a teen. The game was meh, but how they were out of order was very confusing. The guy Will replace on That’s My Dog would had been a better host. Hell, I would choose Tom Parks over Will Shriner. Can we get more classic Shoney’s commericals w/ Tom Parks please? I laugh at all of his commercials
Hey, that's Sara Paxton on 10:04!

I also think ratings would have been boosted for this if Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza had sponsored the series.
I rather watch Child's Play by far. That show is more fun watch for sure.
Because Bill Cullen is the best!!!
DUDE! A thousand bucks?! Canadian game shows back then gave away more cash than this show.
Hell, UK game shows (IBA-era) gave away more money than that...
Will you do MTV's Remote Control for the Games of '90?
4:00PM
2:02 - My _25th_ birthday!
And stand-up comic Kathleen Madigan's 31st.
Am I the only one who thinks of this show was just a very very poor man’s “child’s play”?

So will the Newton clip be GSG's version of "Play me off, Paul!" from _Nostalgia Critic?_
I don't watch Nostalgia Critic, so I don't get the connotation.

Will Baby Races be next?
In the UK, this show was a bit more successful on BBC1 with 4 seasons, 52 episodes, and the late Ronnie Corbett
as the host.

And Herb was great on TFTM, in my opinion.

Maybe they should have Kin Shriner host instead
@@donaldpaluga Oh no. I think he may be worse.
Wil Shriner has the hosting skills of Patrick Wayne. Wait, scratch that. His hosting is a combination of Pat Bullard and Patrick Wayne.
Caleb Washington YOU WIIIIINNNNN!!! Lmao
one question why does this game show have 3 buzz-in buttons on the podiums
randomizer for the bonus round.

@@QXZ_Productions With the B-roll that DC sent me, I can say that this happened at least twice.
Truth! There is a show for everyone.
UK version was 100x better especially with Ronnie Corbett hosting.
Wow floating numbers on podiums when scores could've used an eggcrate display or digifont....
When do we get to see the new intro?
Does every host just "want a paycheck?" Honesty I can find like a dozen videos where you say that for every host, not warranted I might add.
Allow me to include Ty Treadway and Rossi Morreale
My jaw hung open when you said you loved Studs. I found that show to be deplorable and offensive. To each their own, I guess.
True. It's the same thing when some people say they like Three's A Crowd.
@@GameShowGumbo Except I think Studs has a far better format than 3's a Crowd.
Wasn't this show a ripoff of the game show "Child's Play?"
The UK version of small talk is superior
