Es preciosa esta música que nos regalas... Mil gracias: Consuelo
Merci beaucoup d'avoir mis les quatuors de Milhaud en ligne !!! Quel dommage que sa musique ne soit pas plus facilement disponible. Grâce à vous, je suis en train de la découvrir et je n'y résiste pas ! Grazie tanto a Lei !
Nice and very sharp precision! They do justice to a wonderful composition.
How very pleasant.
Many thanks for uploading this beautiful piece.
thanks so much for this upload of a rare unknown work. strong elements of Debssy and Ravel obviously. marvellous.
Someone from Spain I know has unpublished string music from that time, her father's. So there is a lot to discover as yet of the wonderful 20th Century classical music.
This reminds me quite a bit of the Rachel's album _Music For Egon Schiele_. The dreamy, happy-leaning melancholy here (particularly in the first third) is so lovely. A smidge of that tone is also reminiscent of Satie's _Gymnopédies_...Thanks so much for posting
H Em Agree! Actually Rachel's became my favourite musicians since I related them too much to this Milhaud's work
This quartet is among the first opus of a catalog which includes more than 300!!!! Clearly Milhaud's typical maturity is not here, but considr that this quartet dates from 1912. We can find here a clarity of expression and a firmness of the pen which makes it a work deserving not to be forgotten.
I would like to add that the dedication to Paul Cezanne underlines in my mind the firmness of the drawing and the contrast of colors.
More than 400!
Thanks for uploading!
An excellent beginning to what I believe is a fascinating and stimulating cycle of string quartets. I do not understand why these quartets are not performed regularly.
très délicieux
A stimulating composition in warm instrumental flow
I've never heard it before. It reminds me of the Ravel quartet in places.
A very joung Milhaud is looking for his way here, but some personal features are already present.
I can hear a little bit of Ernest Bloch in this! Both Bloch and Milhaud were Jews who spent a lot of time in the USA. (Bloch permanently immigrating.) There is a very bittersweet feeling here. Quite touching.
+John Lindstrom I forgot to add: Milhaud was only twenty years old when he wrote this.
The composer Peter Mieg said about Milhaud: he wrote a string quartet before breakfast... 😅 I heard that he wanted to write one more than Beethoven 😗
This is great creative powerful music that is important for the simple and important example by instrument voices, such as some have done in several ways by certain entities and / or certain details for example: Albinoni Boccherini Zipoli Debussy Milhaud Les Six Stravinsky Ives Miles Evans Coltrane Shorter Hancock Baker Mulligan Konitz Parker Jarritt E Spalding Brilliant Great Ulf Hellerup, Playlists example Music 42 YT
