  • New Jersey's "Midgetville" will soon be laid to rest.
The area in Totowa was given its name for its scaled down homes according to the publication Weird NJ. Urban legend has it that the homes were built for circus ringleader Alfred Ringling and his performers.
In 2011, Hurricane Irene destroyed many of the homes which are along the Passaic River. The borough council voted to tear down five of the cottages, and Control Industries Inc. was awarded a $49,375 bid to tear down the homes. The borough council received a $1.25 million bond in 2013 to assist with buyouts.
Demolition is set to begin over the next couple of weeks. Several neighbors fear history is being destroyed.
