    Very interesting, thank you. It also works with eevee but you have to set the blending mode to alpha blending (in material settings) instead of opaque

    This is fantastic! Is it possible to make the object appear solid as the slice is made? The void between the external and internal skin of the train is train appears hollow, is there a way to fill this?

    • @aaronvdw
      @aaronvdw  6 місяців тому

      For that you would need to to have real geometry filling in those areas. That would require the boolean way unfortunately. This method uses a shader mixed with transparency, so it's only affecting the geometry that is there. Hope that makes sense.

    • @subsurfxr1811
      @subsurfxr1811 6 місяців тому

      @@aaronvdw Thanks Aaron, yep make sense, just unfortunate that the boolean has artifacts that are difficult to get rid of.

    • @aaronvdw
      @aaronvdw  6 місяців тому

      @@subsurfxr1811 If the thing you're slicing has simpler geometry to begin with, the boolean method may work quite well. And there may be a way to use geometry nodes to reduce the chances of things getting all wacky, but I haven't gone down that road.

    Great material, but I have one question, how can you do the same effect in one scene, only that the subject will both disappear from the scene and appear in the scene

    • @BobTheBuilder_2334
      @BobTheBuilder_2334 2 роки тому +2

      It took me three minutes to try it ))), just add an extra empty object and make another mix-node only after the coordinate information you need to add an inversion node

    Is there any way to fill that holes with some different material (you can imagine hatching lines). Boolean works but when there are multiple meshes it crashes. Is there any way to make this using Material.

    • @aaronvdw
      @aaronvdw  Рік тому

      Not with this technique because there is no geometry to assign a material to.

      Try this: Go to Render Properties tab and look under Light Paths > Max Bounces and increase the Transparency value. I have mine at 24 for this project.

      @@aaronvdw Yes good point, if for example I was animating the cut/section of 200 joined little spheres, is there a way to do this method where the spheres appear solid not hollow when cutting them?

    • @aaronvdw
      @aaronvdw  Рік тому

      @@philbotha1174 Oh I see. No this method would not achieve that result. I think you would want to use booleans to maintain the manifold geometry of those spheres.
