I would say in the last 10 years it is probably well over 10 billion if we count community market transactions as well. If purely in game probably more around 7-8 billion.
With that kind of revenue, I would have the best gaming studio possible, with the best game developers available and CS2 would've been so great that Hamas and IDF would stop the war just so they could play it nonstop! And the prize pool for majors would be at least $10 million, to attract as much pro talent as possible!
Why would they have more butterflies? Because for years one of the most popular cases was the breakout case which was in the active drop pool for many years. You have to realise that because it accounts for 100% of the knives in that one case, its closer to the figure that the OG knives would have if they were in 5 cases.
The reason why there are more butterflies is because there's a case that only drops butterflies, while gut knife is a 1/6 chance from common knives Now remember that every ADHD kid wants a butterfly so everyone either buys Breakout cases or opens new generation cases which have 6 new knives It makes sense why there are more butterflies than any other knife
butterfly is most common probably because breakout cases used to be the most common at the peak of CSGO at the time, thats' when CSGO became really mainstream with gambling etc, there used to be millions of breakout cases on the market at $0.03, and u can only get butterfly from that lol
I wonder how their expenses are looking... and how much they are taking out of counterstrike to carry steam perhaps? I really can't wrap my head around all that... that's a crazy scale we are looking at....
I am glad they are paying skin creators a decent chunk these days..... but they can still do better with prize pools. For instance use (a (bigger) portion of) their cut from major sticker capsules and give it back as prizes.
Now imagine of the 100mil they made from case openings they used like 30 on 30 high profile devs give them a million for a year each and let them work on anti cheat and bugfixes/a new operation
You forgot to count the real thing. Like How many csgo prime accounts are brought which cost 15 usd. Hackers get banned, immediately buy new acc and made valve a load of cash.
just off steam fees alone regarding cs they've made easily 20b, think about how many infinite items have been sold throughout the years, it's pretty much an infinite number
And the fact that Valve dosent need to advertise their games and Steam they save so much more money. Because If Valve releases a game, everyone will know anyway.
So they made that much, but how much was reinvested back into the company, what was the overhead, etc. There's more math to add in to determine the actual sheer profits. It's an abusrd amount of money, but revenue =/= profit. We won't ever really know the true numbers unless Valve becomes publicly traded.
With them being so greedy as to not even give the players 128 tick servers, I think their expenses are pretty low. They're consistently valued at 10+ billion $, so, there's that.
They make more than that from steam every year and they don´t even have to move a finger, anyone that says valve makes decisions based on how much more money they will make does not know how valve works, cs is not a very popular game inside of valve (or at least not very popular when compared to DOTA 2, Portal and Half Life) and how much money it makes has a very small impact,
And it definitely isnt used in developement at all. How they have shown it, they probably have a 10 year old russian coding prodigy doing all the updates to cs2 for the work experience who is doing the best they can which is a lot for any one person but not enough for a game the size of cs2. They have money for thousands of developers. Dont care to use the money for that though.
the number of Gut Knifes is lower cuz they are usually worth way less than any butterfly and therefore most poeple dont bother selling them for real money and stick to the steam market.
All that dollars and they still can't afford a proper team to correctly prepare CS2 for it's publication. A month passed and still no new case nor operation. This is insane. They lose a lot of money and hype around the game. Some people need to be fired and replaced in Valve...

totally makes sence why there is most butterfly knifes in the games since its one of the most popular knifes and it has its "own case"
