Just wanted to relate a few things, I appreciate that when you play the guitar, it's because it is a kind of euphoric nirvana and not because you are trying to impress anyone( though I am impressed :-) )... and that you are bluntly straightforward in your opinions, advice, and reviews. It's refreshing in a world of seeming commerciality. Thanks from the heart, John.
As a fellow British balding bespectacled guitar geek albeit with less gear and skills I have a question when you are in the midst of improv zen how do you stop yourself dribbling, it’s quite distracting when it lands on the fretboard
came here for a review of the speakers, but I fear you could play through a soggy cardboard box in an alluminium garage and make it sound like a marshall 412 stack in an auditorium, so perhaps this review is not going to give me what I need to know...
Ok Dave, just up in Sydney with a cup of tea to start the Sunday off. Was a combo Katana guy until you switched to the 1x12. Now I am a cab fan..😍 Can we hear the Katana Artist through the cab? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Always use my 112 on an amp stand, my 212 is a vertical 212, and has wheels on the back, so floor contact is a minimum( and therefore the sound transfer/bass increase ), both Barefaced. I like the sound , but after numerous gigs with them at band volume, I cant honestly see that they are as ground breaking compared to other half open cabs that I have used. They do sound better when the speaker has broken in as you would expect. As you said, a lot of pub gigs your cab is up against a wall, so how can the back port make much difference? , on the subject of looks, I personally think the 112 badge is way too big for the cab, and after a while I actually had my grill recovered as when I tried removing the badge off the silver weave, the black adhesive they used was just so thick and impossible to remove. if your buying one to gig with small to medium venues unmicd choose the vertical called the reformer, thoroughly recommended for the design includes two casters, plus extra handle, which makes loads of difference loading and unloading. A lot easier to wheel than bang into punters swinging a 212 cab. Nice noodling by the way.. :) This is just my opinion, and I am partially deaf in one ear after playing for 40 years in bands, so that might be a factor. Both mine have Vintage30s, and the 112 is the only one that has broken in properly so far, they do loose a lot of the top end spikeyness once broken in. All the best.
Why do bass players walk in front of your cab when you start your face melting solo?? Could this be the cure? The boss katana combo has a laser beam delivery slightly off axis and the sound turns to mush, at home I point mine directly at me and kick it back 40 degrees ish I want one of these 2x12 for all my heads, TSL JVM katana then sell all my other cabs
It's just killin' me, there's an EMT 144 Stereo Plate on Reverb right now, but I don't have seven grand. The right tone is a special thing init? BTW, I have a JBL 2485 that would push some serious wind out of the top rotor. You should consider what is going on with that.
I have their 1x12 cab with a Celestion Neo Creamback speaker, so the thing is extremely light. Not had a chance to gig it yet, but am impressed so far. I do also have a conventional 1x12 cab with a standard Creamback speaker and the sound certainly disperses more with the Barefaced when I A/B,d them.
Hi Dave I’ve been here for a while, since close to the beginning on the tube. I love your channel and I’m sure I’ll get blasted here but I would love to hear you do some Texas blues, or country rock style blues. Now I’m gonna put my hard hat on, I know it’s coming, Thanks Dave!

This is the first time I heard these cabs. I love the 112 cab. It’s a joy being on the other side listening to someone else’s emotion and soul coming out of their guitar. Thank you brother.
Dave!! You really are thinking so I don't have to.. I'm on the verge of getting a NUX MIGHTY SPACE 30W..next I am after a cab for band practice and we hope gigging!! So blinking excited... I dare say these are pricey?!? But I'm hugely convinced by your sensitivity... So I'll save up..cheers for that!!! .May we Love live love and live some more..

@@Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040 I'm not trying to be controversial, imo people that talk about religious scripture like your link, for what ever reason, don't really know what they're talking about. I've been thinking about purchasing a Barefaced Audio cabinet for awhile, and for the reasons you illuminated a VERTICAL stacked cab is what I've been considering. Yes you can stand the 2x12" on end, but why not buy it made that way? The combination of Alex's (he's the genius behind the design) brilliant design and stacked speakers - getting one closer to ear level, should improve the sonic spread considerably. Do I want a vertical 2 x 12", 2 x 10", or just two individual speaker cabs stacked?? Perhaps two individual cabs is the best solution, maybe a 12" and a 10"...yes, I think I shall get one of each!! Is the Barefaced Audio (Alexfaced?) cabinet design is the most revolutionary guitar/bass (he plays bass) speaker cabinet design yet? Cheers to BA for bringing us better musical dispersion............!
I have a Marshall dsl 40cr and was thinking the same thing. Getting one of those Bareface cabs in a 10" to pair with the 12" Celestion V-type in the amp.
I believe they sound good in the room, but how does the design effect the sound when you mic it up close? How about potential phase issues of the sound comming from the back, traveling around?
Yes Dave! That's my sound love there. Nice intro. Hope to see you back one day see my progress. Atmos Ambient blues. Hail to the Gilmour tones. And the emotional release!
Well played to Barefaced Audio for sending Dave a couple of cabs to audition. I loooove a well designed 112 cabinet. I was blessed to come into the possesion of a Fargen oversized 112 cabinet, about the size of a 410 cab, but with a single Celestion. Sounds bigger and better than any 412 or 212 cab that I owned previously. Does the 'fill the room' thing well. I'd recommend the Fargen or one of these Barefaced cabs to anyone. Get into it.
The whole cabinetry thing has been giving me a sore head for the last year, I recognize that venting voodoo from some old hifi stuff I have seen in pictures. The kind of fifties tech you might listen to while polishing your classic Ferrari. Audiophile stuff. As you can testify, that one actually works. Lucky you. :)
Speaking the enochian language on guitar? NICE 😎👍❤ That reverb must feel great as it envelopes you😎👍❤ Better than just a beam across the speaker(s) me thinks.😎
I'm a bassist and I designed the AVD guitar cabs to solve the problems when you're playing in a band! And I'm a big fan of recording as live as possible, everyone in the room together, and it's better for that too.
Loads of gigging truths spoken here. These seem like very versatile and valuable cabs for stage sound. I could really see having a couple 1x12's as extra stage monitors (and maybe a dedicated one for the drummer).
The general feedback from bandmates of guitarists playing through Barefaced AVD cabs is that with just one cab they can hear them better than ever before.
This just popped up on my feed and I watched it again. I've just bought the 1 x 12 it's damned awesome. Anyway, hope all is well with you Dave as not seen you on here for a while unless i've missed something, keep on with the posts mate oh, and some more walks :)
Great playing and great vid dude! Did you ever find out what speaker was in the 112? I bought a 212 and just had the vintage 30s in it. I had to re EQ my amp quite a bit, used to run it with a Marshall 212 and then the DI from the amp sounded terrible after EQ change. So I ordered a barefaced 112 and had it loaded with a G12t-75 as used in Marshall 412s, put the EQ back where it was and it sounds awesome! Fills the room too. One band I play for does big working men’s clubs and it fills the room without going through the PA! I’m about to put G12t-75s in the 212
Love the idea. Have to save up for the 212H. Dave, everything you said is totally true. If you slant up, you lose that lovely base response of your cab coupling with the ground. If you run a 212 or 112 on the ground, you blast your ankles and tone sounds muffled. I guess my Marshall 1960 is the answer until I can sell me arse on the streets for enough to afford one of these. 🤘
Love it man, off topic, i hate tone studio after 5 hours. Prob this piece of shit computer. Can you help me dial in adam jones with tool rhythm. Ill buy a shirt.
Dave can you teach us dropd " easy i hnow " but wgar cgords sound bitchin. Ive noticed the chord shapes can be different. Thoight id ask here, my A+Q never make the que :)
Although... it is not the Knights of the Round Table soundtrack (by Monty Python) it's been a fantastic instrumental intro I must confess... The effects remind me of Pink Floyd' style... Relaxing like only a hyperspace trip should be... About cabs, angles, positions, in my opinion, though, at live performances, a musician always plays for an audience, however, the artist should feel comfortable in order to play in tune and also, to be in a position to express and to communicate feelings; but when the means are not appropriate, often, the musician must decide who will hear the final sound better, must it be the audience or whoever is playing the instruments? Never an easy decision...
i just got an imac 27inch running catalina, now on my old windows 10 desktop ,you sounded amazing ,now with the imac just out of this world dave ,whole diff ball game, wouldnt mind a bit more of the first intro,i like that kind of sound, cheers dave, all the best, and stay safe...........................dougie
I know what you mean about monitoring your sound onstage. One out of the box solution to this problem was, I believe Dave, the doobie brothers concert in Auckland, where they reportedly used small combo amps st the front of the stage( like monitor wedges) facing the performers. The guys were able to get a handle on their instrumental sounds , which were then mic'd up conventionally, and the results were fine! Just a rumour, Dave, but it always made me think.
Only watched a few mins so far, but had to say cracking ad for the Jem-jr excellent value guitars by the sound of it! I haven't played one yet... I have played a sea foam green premium though super thin neck slightly trebly sounding!
HOW MUCH ??? I laugh in your general direction. All that extra money for a bit more dispersion ?? (under certain conditions) Ever been had ?? I hope you pull good wedge from this ... someone is.
+1 for DTP shirt game on point It's still during the opening jam, so I look forward to hearing how you got a great deal on this because JEM are not inexpensive and I am unsure why you would get something off the shelf at that price point. Either that, or you found a magic one, but that *really* depends on the wood/pickup combination whatever year that's from. I know where a quasi-pre JEM is now - look at Heartland guitars: a Fujigen built, fender commissioned, (with the Fender name/logo on some headstocks) RG clone with a broken tipped Jackson headstock. :-)
What I did when I gigged was to put my 2x12 on top of a 4x12 that wasnt plugged in and just use it as a stand. That way you can hear it and it goes out to the crowd.
i was already a bit stoned before watching, but during that intro i floated away on a sonic cloud of cotton candy, it really was inspired, great cabs too, I really want one, but it's a bit more than i can spend on a cab at the mo, but the design seems like a real game changer.
So Marshall, Mesa, Laney, Peavy etc hundreds of companies, have been designing cabs between themselves for thousands of years combined, and during all this time, and all that money spent on R&D, this never occurred to any of them? I just cannot believe these people own the patent on this technology. Great to see a Ibanez jem, now that was a truly original design.
There's a lot of tradition and nostalgia in the guitar world (and I don't mean that in a bad way, just an observation of reality). Fender has been making essentially the same guitars for 70 years, for example. People still want Marshall amps that were made in the 60s, far more than they want modern ones. So to my point -- there's an intentional focus on not changing things, or developing new technology, when people still want what you did half a century ago.
Why is it that PA cabs look really different to 60 years ago? And hi-fi speakers? And many bass cabs? But guitar cabs are unchanged? Other than the upward slant on some cabs, are mainstream guitar cabs not simply a cuboid box with the right dimensions to fit under their amps and fit the speakers in the front and made of thick ply (or other board material) with minimal bracing? If that’s the case, what time and money have they all been spending on the speaker cabs?
With a close mic they sound like a better normal guitar cab. Why better? Because the cab isn't box shaped on the inside so the internal reflections mess up the tone less than with a closed or open cab.
This is a really awesome speaker and I didn't expect to be as impressed as I am! Now I'm plotting how to add one into my rig🤔 Turning the amp sideways was particularly impressive, great demo!🤘
My solution for dialling in the optimum sound on stage is to use a small cab, tilted up at me like a monitor, either to the side of me or in front. There is normally enough space for me to do that. I do like the smaller of these two cabs though. I would probably opt for the 1x10 version if I had the budget.
Cheers from California USA. Hey Dave been a been fan of your channel for almost 2 years now and in my opinion probably the best guitar channel on the Tube. Anyway I have seriously been considering Ordering one of the 2X12 cabinets for the last month Go I have been quite nervous because I have yet to find a demo of what these cabinets sound like in the style of music That will mostly be played through mine. That being said I was wondering if it was possible at all for you to do me the favor Of Maybe doing just a real short demo for me playing Some sort of heavy metal? Some thrash metal type power chord riffs fast and tight with mids pushed high gain distortion. And also maybe some drop D style heavy doom or death metal riffs. If this is not possible or you do not have the time I completely understand But it would be very helpful to me and very very much so appreciated even just like a 1 or 2 minute clip Would be super . Thank you so much for your time and all your content. Sincerely, Sherman
We could do with getting a metal band in to demo both bass and guitar Barefaced cabs - although I come from metal roots I don’t play with a pick and lean towards doom rather than thrash tempos when getting heavy. And we don’t have any proper metal guitarists at Barefaced right now.
get one of the upright 212 ( the reformer ) , much better for that style of music, and also has wheels!, Barefaced can put any Celestion driver you like in them. Bear in mind that they come as 16 ohm as standard, so if you want an 8 ohm cab let them know to order two 16 ohm speakers.
Midnight Hour The vertical 212 is called the Uprising 212V. The Reformer is our 112 cab. I wouldn’t say that the 212V is better for metal than the 212H, it’s a personal choice but I’d expect more metal guitarists to prefer the Radical 212H.
@@BarefacedAudio My mistake on the name. I was basing my choice of the vertical over the horizontal as it will have a tighter bass response, especially with drop tunings.
Hello Dave, cheers from California. Honest question for ya. Since these have been regarded so highly by yourself, is there any reason/reasons you could share on as to why you currently do not use these products anymore? Thank you
Omg Dave!!! They sound incredible! As soon as you started playing that bluesy stuff in the demo I was blown away! It's sounded so damn good, and DEFINITELY sounded way even and even clearer than any amp I've heard in a room :) and most micd amps haha!! Wouldn't it be cool if you never had to mic up again! It sounded so Ace!!!! good demo and explanation man, I learnt a lot :) you da man :)

This just popped up on my feed and I watched it again. I've just bought the 1 x 12 it's damned awesome. Anyway, hope all is well with you Dave as not seen you on here for a while unless i've missed something, keep on with the posts mate oh, and some more walks :)
Steve who?
Great playing and great vid dude! Did you ever find out what speaker was in the 112? I bought a 212 and just had the vintage 30s in it. I had to re EQ my amp quite a bit, used to run it with a Marshall 212 and then the DI from the amp sounded terrible after EQ change. So I ordered a barefaced 112 and had it loaded with a G12t-75 as used in Marshall 412s, put the EQ back where it was and it sounds awesome! Fills the room too. One band I play for does big working men’s clubs and it fills the room without going through the PA! I’m about to put G12t-75s in the 212
Which Marshall Headare you using?
Marshall mg100 hdfx. :)
Is that Canadian $ because I’m sure it’s not that much in US $?!?
@@BarefacedAudio oh, maybe I'm mistaken. More like $980. I'll edit my comment as to not misrep.
Bloody 'ell Dave!... You and the Ibby sounded MEGA!!
Think you could fit a pair of Vintage 30's in that 'oh so pretty' 2x12 cab ;)
Such much? Daft money. Line into the P.A... Problem solved for the cost of a cable...
Does the Katana sound good through it?
Not tried it yet. I'll have to let you know.
@@thedavesimpson cool, cheers :)
(under certain conditions)
Ever been had ??
I hope you pull good wedge from this ... someone is.
It’s a bit nonsensical
Thank you for using the jem jr, exactly when i was thinking about buying one, nice video
+1 for DTP shirt game on point
It's still during the opening jam, so I look forward to hearing how you got a great deal on this because JEM are not inexpensive and I am unsure why you would get something off the shelf at that price point.
Almost 70 000 subs, Dave! I am so happy for you - if anyone deserves it more than you I'd be surprised! You are a legend! :))))))))
Thank you Dave
Beautiful intro jam! You made that Ibanez sing man. Those cabs sound so nice. Loved the blues licks too, awesome!!
Dude you can have no pedal board. Plug straight into a Boss Katana and sound great.
I've still yet to see (hear) anyone close mic these cabs. No idea if they are any good beyond the dispersion of sound out the back.
With a close mic they sound like a better normal guitar cab. Why better? Because the cab isn't box shaped on the inside so the internal reflections mess up the tone less than with a closed or open cab.
Uhhh, I wouldn't mind burning a steak!
This is a really awesome speaker and I didn't expect to be as impressed as I am! Now I'm plotting how to add one into my rig🤔
Turning the amp sideways was particularly impressive, great demo!🤘
My solution for dialling in the optimum sound on stage is to use a small cab, tilted up at me like a monitor, either to the side of me or in front. There is normally enough space for me to do that.
I do like the smaller of these two cabs though. I would probably opt for the 1x10 version if I had the budget.
I prefer the look and sound of the “Green Meany” 🔊 🎶 Great review Dave 👍🏻
The small cab with a Katana head would be pretty awesome I think.
Can you do a how to play like Robin Guthrie on your new Boss amp?
Great video Dave keep it up..... have mad respect for you man 🤘👊
Lovely lingering notes, reminiscent of wind blown western plains.
good gravy i miss my ibanez. its even the same color!
Brilliant intro piece...elegant and emotive and spiritually uplifting!
Dave always knows how to deliver that feels...That intro tune was awesome.👍🏾👍🏾
Sincerely,
Sherman
Hi there. I'd really love to do that for you but I'm not good in that style and wouldn't do it justice. Sorry.
Thank you
I do use them at home but i use my Orange cab live because i prefer it.
Hello from France,
You play the ibanez Jem, junior, what do you think of this guitar?
Compared to everything else you know, is it a model you could recommend?
Thank you, and congratulations on your performance, virtuoso.
Its definitely a model I'd recommend. I love them. :)
