@@siddiqahmad5193 When someone's career stalls -- Living Color hasn't had a hit since 1990, actually disbanded, then came back together -- they play either the racism or sexism card. If you take a look at the Wikipedia entry for the top-selling recording artists of all time, black artists are not just represented, but overrepresented relative to their demographic percentages. In other words, the claim that the music industry is systematically racist is demonstrably bullshit.

    • @siddiqahmad5193

@@leobigelow7021 So, first point is Vernon Reid was solicited for his opinion re. Wenner's widely recognized racist/ misogynistic world view and operating principle. At no point did Reid allude to or suggest he/his bandmates were personally impacted by Wenner. I'm not sure the environment you were brought up in, your education, etc. but you seem to be of the impression that if some on opines on a revelatory sociopathic act they are by implication directly impacted. I'm not a musician, never purchased/read an edition of Rolling Stone yet, as a music fan who happens to be black, to some degree I'm put off by Wenner's remarks. In keeping, I got no such impression from Reid. My impression is that TMZ reached out to an industry pro for perspective... and yes, a black pro because he's member to at least one of the classes Wenner deems intellectually unqualified. I'm further impressed that, in turn, Reid obliged TMZs entreaty. Secondly, who played the "race card" here? From my vantage point it seems Wenner's been dealing from a race and gender laden deck for several decades. And unlike Reid's solicited opinion, the hands Wenner dealt, actually impacted two broad industry classes. For you to suggest that Reid is dealing spades here is more than extra; it actually suggests you have a problem with black folk calling out racists. Kinda like you have some grievance or something against black folk speaking up for their demographic. Care to explain? While you're at it perhaps you could expound a bit upon your "overrepresentation" comment. Perhaps I've misread, but in context is sounds as if you mean to imply that black contributions are overstated? Finally, no one, and I mean NO ONE said the industry is "Racist"; those are your projections and false attributions to Reid, others and they're once again indicative of something bubbling inside of you that you really ought work out under introspection or professional counseling.
One other thing, you do you but if you're at all interested you should probably take care not to lean of Wikipedia as authoritative on anything of relative importance... just a suggestion

And everyone has always wondered why the R&RHoF was so skewed when nominations were handed out. Wenner is the reason. Not only is he a racist and a misogynist, he held personal grudges with numerous bands for decades. Bands worthy of being in the HoF. Lou Graham and Mick Jones could shed some light on the subject now that Wenner has been exposed…

I am reading Sticky Fingers, an authorized Wenner biography that Wenner disowned after reading it (so you know it must be true), and basically Wenner is a huge fan-boy who worships a few rock stars from his era: Dylan, Beatles, Garcia, Springsteen, Stones, plus U2 who are a little younger, and ran his magazine to reflect his tastes with little regard to whether it was fair or comprehensive. I don't think he is necessarily flat-out racist because he did cover some black artists. But they all got the shaft when it came time to hand out album of the year or whatever. Stevie Wonder is a hundred times the artist that Springsteen is, yet I bet Stevie has probably been on the cover twice, and the Boss probably 25 times.
