I am reading Sticky Fingers, an authorized Wenner biography that Wenner disowned after reading it (so you know it must be true), and basically Wenner is a huge fan-boy who worships a few rock stars from his era: Dylan, Beatles, Garcia, Springsteen, Stones, plus U2 who are a little younger, and ran his magazine to reflect his tastes with little regard to whether it was fair or comprehensive. I don't think he is necessarily flat-out racist because he did cover some black artists. But they all got the shaft when it came time to hand out album of the year or whatever. Stevie Wonder is a hundred times the artist that Springsteen is, yet I bet Stevie has probably been on the cover twice, and the Boss probably 25 times.
