    I love this couple. They seem to understand exactly what it's like when you are a struggling beginner trying to speak Italian. I like all their other videos too. Quite agree about the last comment - Duolingo does not help you speak. Sadly it is cancelling all it's speaking classes from Jan 23. What a mistake.

    My wife and I are moving to small town in Abruzzo. Spent @3 months there. Hardly any english in Abruzzo; not even at the Hertz rental desk. We are older, and not sure if we will ever be fluent, but people in Abruzzo are very patient and kind with our efforts with Italian. Thanks for the videos.

      You will never be fluent. My advice is to enroll on an A2 course, take the exam. You will at least then have the basis of the language.

      Katie and Matteo make Italian language learning courses too. It's very likely that they have an online course too where you can enroll even if you live in a different part of Italy than they. Have a nice time in Italy! This is an awesome idea to retire to Italy. Maybe I will do this one day too. Ciao! 🥰

    I'm teaching my dog Italian phrases (as best I can), in preparation for my pets and I moving to Toscana in May. I want her to understand what people say to her, and to be able to speak to local dogs myself🤣(e gatti). (You can clearly see my priorities here.) I would LOVE to see a video on common pet phrases. I've been improvising with things like siediti, buona cagnolina, vieni qui, stringi la mano... Sta imparando l'italiano piu velocemente di me.

    Ive been learning Italian via English on Duolingo for a year and this video rings SO true.
    Duolingo is definitely great for certain things. Conversational Italian is not one of them. For grammar, syntax, the technicalities of language, it’s quite good. For example, Duolingo NEVER teaches you how to say “My name is…”
    It also DOES teach you to say “Vengo da…” 🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @heidiwastweet3149
      @heidiwastweet3149 2 роки тому +8

      Same here! I can tell you that there is an ant in the sugar and a cat on the table or identify the reflexive verb in the sentence but I can't begin to actually have even a simple conversation.

      @@heidiwastweet3149 There is an app I use to supplement Duolingo, it's known as Busuu. It has really been useful.

    • @anubis523
      @anubis523 11 місяців тому +3

      yes, I concur that Duolingo combined with Busuu is a great way to begin the journey. Duolingo is more playful but Busuu is great for expressions in everyday life and on which occasions Italians use them. For instance phrases they use for sports or sports attendance (ex. Tieni duro!, Non mollare!). But afterwards IMHO... you HAVE to attend a course of some kind. Go at a language school or internet courses etc. I am still 'afraid' to speak Italian... :(

    Hearing understanding, followed by pronunciations in learning another language are my first 2 goals. Where I find cognates with other languages, such as Latin or Spanish, I set those aside to be distinguished later, when learning to read. Much is the same with German and English, where there are also many cognates, with some of them true and some of them false.
    I will say that these concepts developed by the Easy Language Group for learning any of the multitudes of choices available is a good way to not only start learning, but also to improve one's comprehension abilities or even improving one's abilities in simultaneous translations of two languages. No matter which channel of the Easy Language Group I visit. I always learn something new.
    Next for me for learning Italian is to get a picture dictionary and spend some time with one page a day learning something new. Then a book of the 501, 601 or 701 language verb series will get me started on learning some verbs. Lastly, is to find an Italian word dictionary that defines the words in Italian only. Anyone have any suggestions on where to buy these two dictionaries I am looking for?

    I’ve been following your channel rigorously, using duolingo and reading a couple of primary grammar books, but still feel quite disconnected and unable to “click” to lyrics or just read anything in Italian without english subs or watch movies dubbed in Italian(like knight and day and 7500 on amazon prime) and make sense of Italian even with Italian subs on. How can I prevent myself from getting discouraged or progress towards fluency a little quicker? Any tips on what i can do to make the road to learning Italian upto the point of holding a small conversation with a native more efficient? Please help! Thanks in advance!

    • @AtlisDe
      @AtlisDe 3 роки тому +10

      i suppose it depends on the movies or shows, but sometimes there's 'dialetti' or lots of slang which is going to be pretty incomprehensible to most standard learners unless you study it. I wouldn't get too discouraged by that. I've been studying a while and there's some days I struggle more than others, its weird lol. I don't know that there's a trick. It just takes listening to lots of videos on topics you find interesting, as well as grammar ones and perhaps even repeating the videos over and over again. 2-3 times, sometimes repeating a video helps you understand it more. I know it probably doesn't feel like you're getting it, but you probably are learning more than you realize.

    I'm sorry but I'm a little confused around the segment starting at 4:28. I thought that in Italy, they use the words, "cucina" and "cibo" much like in France, "cuisine" and "nourriture". In France, they love to talk about "la cuisine française," (or if you're a snob, "la gastronomie"). "Nourriture" has more a connotation like the word, "sustenance." But you're using "cibo" in cases where I would have said, "la cucina italiana." Have I been wrong?

    • @Robycesa78
      @Robycesa78 3 роки тому

      @@khushikaur1260 No, why? What does that 'A' stand for? 'A' is the preposition for 'at'. If you meant 'huh' or 'hah' (English expression of relief), you must spell it 'ah' like you did in your other comment above ('ah okay') 👋

    • @khushikaur1260
      @khushikaur1260 3 роки тому

      @@Robycesa78 I see. I was thinking that with “a”, the sentence would be structured kind of like, “TO me, you all helped a lot.” -> a mi avete aiutato un sacco. That’s why I asked about putting “a” in front of “mi”. I guess I got a bit confused with Spanish haha. Thank you for clarifying!!

    • @Robycesa78
      @Robycesa78 3 роки тому +2

      @@khushikaur1260 No no, wait, I understand what you mean. In this case you must say "A me". "Mi" and "A me" are fully interchangeable, but of course you can't intermix them (a mi doesn't exist). I gotta say that "a me" gives a different perception, it's more focused to yourself and your experience *opposite* to other people; so if you say "a me avete aiutato abbastanza" you're clarifying that it helped *only* you, and you *exclude* that it helped other people. While, if you say "mi avete aiutato abbastanza" you're talking in general for yourself, not referring to others. This is the feel. Strange to understand this, isn't it? There are more examples to this.

    Your videos are great thank you. A little feedback would be. I watch on a TV the pace is very fast which only really gives me chance to read the English. When I pause, the youtube bar covers the subtitles, back button clears these. Then continue and clear the bars again, then miss something click back that's 10 secs start again. If the subtitles were higher it work way better but spoil your framing I guess. Also I suppose these are to push people towards your proper lesson's. It may help with that possibly if people find these more user friendly. No offence meant just feedback, I might just be me 🤣.

    Veo todos sus videos y son excelentes y algo comicos como la parte del Vino a las 11am jajaja. Non parlo molto italiano ne meno lo so scribere bene, ma perché dici ¨WEEKEND¨ in inglese invece di dire fine settimana in italiano?.

    ottimo video come sempre. Una piccola osservazione: nella forma di cortesia il pronome personale della III persona singolare in italiano è sempre femminile perché è riferito alla sua Signoria, che è di genere femminile. Quindi: non "what does S/He do" ma sempre: "what does She do". Un saluto.

    I probably would get along well in Italy, because I love to EAT! and cook! :-D I must be part Italian (that I can't find in my family history), or was Italian in a past life, because of those things! LOL I would have no problem at all asking people about the local dishes of their region!
