I visited Puerto Rico in 2005, absolutely loved the people I met there. Not a negative or boastful pride, a healthy giving and caring pride. I hope that hasn’t changed.

This whole ethnic pride movement is very confusing. Pride is reserved for accomplishments and successes, not for something beyond your control like skin color.

As Carlin put it: When you're born, you're given a free ticket to the shitshow. When you're born American, you get a front row seat. There's no pride for me in being Italian, for example. I didn't do anything to earn my Italian heritage. There's no glory for me because my ancestors built the Roman empire, I wasn't there to help build it. I feel lucky to be italian, but pride?
