Good for you! Don't mind the virtue signaling mobs who tried to guilt trip you, especially they that eat things that resembles the texture and flavour of the meat that they used to eat. The hypocrisy. Can never understand that. 🤯 So. no need to apologize or to explain why you do the things you do. It's not like they'd help you out to pay bills or anything. Keep on doing what you need to do to support your family. I am 100% with you and there is nothing wrong with eating clean meat. Take care.
Okay. First off I am going to say...I AM SORRY that you have to keep apologizing for doing what has been done ethically for centuries and that there is even a need to do that! What you are doing is the right thing to do and I think that, given the chance, everyone would prefer to do it in this manner. I lived on a farm for the first 17 years of my life and when I left at 17, I swore I would NEVER butcher another animal. But here I am at 64, doing exactly what I said I would NEVER do. I am right there with you. The ethics of the meat industry are horrifying and I don't want to support that. I prefer to support local farmers and ranchers when I purchase beef or pork, because believe me, I am not raising those. I can do all kinds of poultry or fish, but that is where I draw the line. However, I don't do the cornish rock chickens or any that have been genetically modified to produce a heavier and meatier chicken. I simply have the heavier breeds of chickens, such as the Salmon Faverolles or Marans. I allow my chickens to breed and I raise them and give them the best life I possibly can. However, if you turn out to be a rooster, so sorry, but you are going in the freezer or canner. Eggs I can always sell and hens are easy to sell as well if I get too many, but roos...well that is a different matter. So I separate my breeds into large pens, each with their own chicken house. The groups each get to free range in cycles, so everyone is happy and healthy. I know many people will have problems with this, but there is coming a time, Casey and Savannah, that you and people like you, will be the ONLY people who have food. Stock up. Make plans to share what you can. And whatever you do, don't tell ANYONE about your stash. Love you girls! Thank you for being the smart, resourceful, ethical and concerned people you are in helping others to learn how to lead better lives. KUDOS to you and Merry Christmas! ( And whatever you do, do NOT look at any videos of how they slaughter horses. You will have nightmares for the rest of your lives! Which is why I have 5 horses, 4 of them rescue horses. If I cannot feed them any longer, I will have them put down humanely because what they do to horses is HORRIFYING. I will NEVER allow that to happen to them!)
Ladies, continue smiling and staying true to you. The way you two step outside the box, research, weigh the pros and cons, selflessness in sharing with us, encourage others...oh my goodness I could go on and on. Thank you for encouraging conversation. It's truly becoming a lost art.
Interesting video. I live out in the country as well. We grow some of our veggies and some fruit each year. I still have some pepper plants growing and producing peppers here in December (Northwest, Florida). I get fresh eggs from a neighbor. Another neighbor has roaming chickens who end up in my yard very often. It will be interesting to see how you grow and process your chickens. Looking forward to your next video.

You ladies are doing great! Raising your own food with respect and kindness, eating in-season and locally, and constantly educating yourselves is a great place to start. (Super interesting stat about pastured eggs and cholesterol!) I think industrialized beef and pork contribute to the worst of all three: environmental impact, people impact, and animal impact. Hats off to you. You're making conscious and considered choices and I admire you for it.
I miss raising my own meat. We raised chicken and rabbits and occasional pig. So much difference in eggs and meat from the store. I get raising your own food and really love watching your homestead grow, good job girls!!
I don’t think there is a perfect way of eating in our modern day life. Probably the best we can do is to be aware as we can be. I’ve been vegan for many years but don’t hold it above other diets. It is a struggle.
I love how you girls don’t skirt around the hard issues. You give your reasons and you’re ok if your fans have differing opinions. Trying to be more conscious of all that you are eating and buying as a consumer is taking responsibility for your life and your way of living.

I agree completely about meditating on where the food comes from. Who grew it and was anyone harmed harvesting or transporting it. Was the food treated with respect. I love how you respect the land.

I still live in the country as always but can only do a bit of container veggies due to age / health. I had several family members with type 2 diabetes so I know your struggles with type one is so difficult. I love following your build progress on your place. So I appreciate a lot of your ideas. Many people your age are not willing to work especially that hard NOR live with any inconvience even short term. Living on my small private country place is my choice of the Best Life for me and it appears you gals think similarly. I still miss the Green of our midwest farm life. Our family has a vegan and three vegetarians. We are also doing our best to balance the many factors of conscious consumerism- sometimes affordability has to win out over buying local, sometimes the learning curve is steep when it comes to growing and producing our own food. Even though we may not have the exact same perspectives, I am grateful y’all are creating spaces to have these conversations. I am pretty much on the same journey as you all. It's been about 8 months since we bought our land, but you all are a lot farther than us. I love watching your videos and your progress. I find it annoying that people need to be rude to videos, especially when u clearly stated, "You do you boo boo, but this is what works for us, and we don't wanna debate"(in a nut shell). Anyway, just know there are many who appreciate your videos and... keep em coming. 😊
I, also, watched FOOD INC and was horrified. I didn’t want to support factory farming . I didn’t consider becoming a vegan, but I did start buying my meat from a local farmer. I just wanted to buy meat I knew had a good life while it was here on this earth. I actually can go to the farm I have been purchasing from for more than a decade now and see his animals. Although, chicken has been historically hard to source locally. Although, it’s gotten easier. I’m not to a place where I want to raise meat chickens, but I do have chickens for eggs. I have been researching places that will process chickens for me if I want to raise them for meat.

I eat meat, but if I knew the animal beforehand I wouldn’t be able to eat it. My aunt and my dad the same way. They couldn’t slaughter or process their farm animals. My aunt used to have to do it, grandpa made her, but after she married and moved, she paid a neighbor to take care of the animals and then had them taken to be processed. She wasn’t able to know them first either. When we used to go to the farm as kids grandpa would always kill a chicken for dinner and it just traumatized me. It ended when I ran in front of his gun to keep him from killing it. But I had seen grandma grab a chicken and break it’s neck…😱. That might have been why grandpa started taking the gun out to do it while we were there. I was horrified watching a chicken get its head cut off and then run around headless. I just can’t take it. I know I don’t make sense. I’d probably not survive if crap hits the fan. Lol. (But I can’t kill bugs either)
