  • The JBL GO2 is a great speaker to use for an external speaker if you are on sideband, but it's horrible for CW. We'll dive into why and compare it to the Anker Soundcore Mini.

    Anker Soundcore Mini: amzn.to/3ScKLEM
    JBL GO2: amzn.to/4fbpg0Y
The JBL GO2 is a great speaker for ham radio sideband use, and for general music listening. But, it has its problems if you need instant, no delay, audio (like running CW). There is a 0.14 second sound delay on the JBL GO2 when using the wired AUX port, vs a 0.01 second sound delay on the Anker Soundcore Mini when using the wired AUX port.
If you are a CW operator, I would steer clear of the JBL GO2 and use the Anker Soundcore Mini. If you don't use CW and are only SSB or just want to listen to music, both of these speakers are an excellent choice!

Absolutely!!! I got an Anker Soundcore Mini by the the recommendation of Thomas, K4SWL and have not looked back. Best portable speaker to take on an activation.

The delay messing up one’s sending is real. I have my shack rig’s audio going to one channel of a 5 channel mixer, and the USB audio going into my PC’s sound card then coming back out to a 2nd channel of the mixer. If i have both channels mixing to my headphones the delay affects my sending. Good video, Dan.

I’m so glad I saw this video. I’ve been trying to decide between these two spe I’m so glad I saw this video. I’ve been trying to decide between these two speakers for the past month or so. I was leaning towards the JBL because it seems like it would be easier to pack in my kit. Looks like I’ll be going with the Anker. As a new new CW operator I certainly can afford to make it harder than it already is.

That’s absolutely crazy. But it brought me to wonder if Kyle uses a JbL. I know he’s getting extra dits and dahs with the same key and kx2.

Great deep-dive Dan. I was expecting the outcome to be Bluetooth latency as that is ~150mSec or ~35mSec on AptX low-latency but then you threw a curveball by mentioning the aux input line. Still it makes me wonder if they didn't just wire the aux input into the same place as the BT's receiver output, instead of the aux input bypassing the BT receiver chip entirely as they do on the JBL Clip 1st generation that I dearly love. The Anker is good and the Leadsound is also good for portable work.

I did read somewhere that some jbl units have onboard audio processing, but I couldn't find anything specifically about the GO2 or how to disable it. The latency measured I'm leaning toward some type of processing. I've never done bluetooth to a JBL, but I would think bluetooth delay would be more than 0.14 seconds.

Amazing what we can perceive. Maybe Peanut butter gives us super powers?
